cw/genre swearing, bantering, social media au w/ written parts, cheesy corn supreme, angst might be a little heavy in this one i’m ngl, slowish burn, taehyun’s a bit of an ass at first um, mentions of divorce/relationship trauma, suggestive jokes here and there, as always pls ignore timestamps
synopsis journalism to kang taehyun is about communicating the truth with hard hitting evidence. a story or report isn’t worth telling if it has no substance or validity. so, when his editor in chief asks him, the anti romantic cynical writer, to write a cover story on the city’s most beloved matchmaker, he is faced with one of the most difficult jobs of his career.

[ synopsis ] love is stupid. cupid is even more so. but, taehyun would do anything to finally get a cover story assignment. even if it means entertaining the idea of trying a matchmaking service.
[ note ] guess who finally got a job after like a million rejections and blatant ghosting 😭💀 ya girl is officially EMPLOYED !!

hello! may i ask what app do you use for the twitter posts and how do you turn the “twitter circle” option on? 🥹 thank you so much in advance!!
hiii!! someone else also asked me about what apps i use—i’ll link that post for you here :))
as for the twitter circle thing, that’s actually not an available option on the apps i use unfortunately 😭 i went the extra mile and edited them myself hehhhh it’s really easy to put together tho! i’ll share how but first you’re gonna need two apps: phonto and moldiv
i made a circles template (attached below) and just added the text with the usernames via phonto and stitched it together with the tweets via moldiv !
on phonto, i add TWO text boxes [set the font, color/style, and size]:
1) Only people in @USERNAME Twitter Circle can see this Tweet. [helvetica neue, 4th color (dark grey), 37]
2) Learn more [helvetica neue bold, 5th color (black), solid underline, 35]
mess around with the position of the text boxes until you’re satisfied with the look! you can save this file as a project so you don’t have to keep making the template from scratch whenever you want to just change the username :))
note: if the first text box doesn’t fit in the green circles box, hit the return/enter cue on your keyboard after different words in the text until it fits to your liking! on phonto, the text will stretch in a single line no matter how long your text is unless you hit that
circles template:
then on moldiv, i go into ‘collage’ and choose the ‘stitch’ option:
1) pick the screenshots of the tweet (make sure you cropped it so it’s just the main tweet), the circles edit, and any replies (or the bottom app bar (attached below))
2) tap on ‘frame adjust’ and make sure all four settings are turned DOWN
note: make sure you do all your cropping and such before you add them to moldiv bc you won’t be able to edit in the app!
bottom app bar:
and that’s it!
i hope this made sense and wasn’t complicated to follow 😭 i swear after you go through it once you’ll see just how simple the process is! for organization, i keep all my circles stuff in its own album in my photo library so they’re easy to find and grab when i’m editing a tweet.
obviously, you don’t have to do all this if you don’t want to bc ik it can be a little tedious/inconvenient especially if you’re trying to make a lot of tweets at once 😭 but this is just how i was able to make the feature possible for my smau! i hope this was helpful!

His head felt empty as Taehyun made his way to his destination. He’s had 48 hours to wrap his mind around it but he still couldn’t believe his first cover story assignment was on a matchmaking service. It was, as his friends would say, incredibly unserious. Taehyun waited two years to get this sort of opportunity and he feels as though it’s been crapped on before he even had a chance to relish in it.
The first 24 hours were spent listening to the constant teasing from his friends. They could not believe their editor-in-chief actually chose Kang Taehyun to do this piece. It was a well-known fact around their office that Taehyun was a bit of an “anti-romantic”. He doesn’t like romance movies or shows, citing his displeasure for their overtly fairytale-esque storytelling. He doesn’t like seeing couples in public, complaining the PDA is too much (even standard hand-holding). And, he especially doesn’t like dating. Don’t get him wrong; Taehyun has felt attracted to people over the years. But, he didn’t see the value of a romantic relationship.
Taehyun had his reasons for feeling the way he did. He just didn’t feel particularly obligated to tell people his business. The only person who has the slightest clue is Soobin. After all, they’ve known each other for eight years. But, even then, Soobin feels like he doesn’t truly know Taehyun as well as he should. He knows the surface of what makes Taehyun… him. But, he has yet to learn the depths of Taehyun’s person.
The last 24 hours were spent reluctantly planning and collaborating. Taehyun didn’t have a clue what his story would be about. Usually, after deciding on a topic, he has endless ideas about what he could write about. But, for the first time, he had no idea what to do. His editor-in-chief, Namjoon, simply told him to ‘make it juicy’.
Matchmaking services were a load of baloney. The idea that one person somehow had the ability to find soulmate pairs was ridiculous. Cupid’s Club had the highest ratings in the city, with most of the reviews praising the matchmaker for their passion and attentiveness. Boasting a 99% success rate, Cupid’s Club was considered the crown jewel of couples servicing agencies. The obscene hyperbole made Taehyun scoff.
It didn’t take long until the bright pink sign caught Taehyun’s attention during his walk to the agency. His eyebrows creased, a short exasperated breath leaving his throat as he examined the agency exterior. It was decorated with flowers, welcome signs, and posters. The crisp white walls blinded Taehyun’s pupils almost as much as the pink primary sign naming the establishment: Cupid’s Club.
Taehyun bowed his head, avoiding meeting eyes with passersby as he briskly walked up the entrance. It was humiliating enough being assigned to the place, he didn’t need people to see him. As soon as he walked through the door, he let out a sigh. It’s now or never. He rolled up the sleeve of his cardigan, glancing at his watch, before walking up the steps to the main floor platform. He was met with a similarly decorated lobby, disgustingly celebratory of love.
“Hello! How can I help you?” A joyful voice broke Taehyun’s thoughts.
He looked over to see a brightly smiling blond boy behind the receptionist’s desk. That must be Kai, he thought. Taehyun took hesitant steps toward the desk, embarrassment curdling his nerves once more. He stopped when he was able to rest his arm on the desk, clearing his throat before averting his eyes to the boy’s hands on his keyboard.
“I,” Taehyun began, gaze darting everywhere but Kai’s face. “I have an appointment.”
Kai nods, typing away and finding Taehyun’s appointment block. He checks him in, alerting the rest of the staff of his arrival.
“YN will be out with you in a minute,” Kai informs, gesturing to the vacant couch along the wall prompting Taehyun to take a seat.
This was the most embarrassed Taehyun had felt about anything. He could almost hear Beomgyu giggling at the sight of him going through with this. Their comments kept repeating in his head over and over. His pride as a credible journalist was faltering.
Taehyun pushed up his glasses, another sigh escaping his chest. His hands grasped onto the strap of his briefcase, fingers clenching the leather material as he noticed footsteps coming from the hall leading to the offices. His eyes fixated on the figure who emerged.
They had an alluring aura. Their smile was sweet, cheeks round and colored with a faint blush. They walked up to Taehyun, their steps light yet cheerful. They radiated with joy.
They stretched out their arm, “I’m YN, the matchmaker here at Cupid’s Club. It’s nice to meet you.”
Taehyun looked at their hand, cautiously returning their gesture. He returned a faint smile, “I’m Taehyun.”
YN asked him to follow them to their office where they would talk more. Their office was the furthest down. Taehyun trailed behind them, peeking into the other rooms as they walked by. Once they arrived at YN’s office, they walked in and took their respective seats. YN sat behind their desk, pulling up a profile-making program on their computer and setting up a new document.
Taehyun sat in the seat across, taking a look around the room while he waited for them to engage. The wall was adorned with what looked like wedding invitations and portraits of different couples. Taehyun couldn’t help but wonder just how long some of these couples would truly last.
“First, let’s start with the interview process,” YN said, snatching back his attention. “Tell me about yourself, Taehyun.”
He was silent for a moment, gathering his thoughts before recalling the "alias" he created for himself. He reached up to push up his glasses and crossed his arms across his chest.
“Um,” he trailed. “I’m Taehyun and I’m a literature teacher.”
YN stopped typing, looking over at Taehyun, waiting for a moment before letting out a chuckle. Taehyun furrowed his brows, fidgeting in his seat.
“I’m gonna need a lot more than that to build your profile,” YN informs.
“How much more do you need to know?” Taehyun asked, tone rather monotonous.
YN was perplexed by his closed-off demeanor. He definitely wasn’t anything like the clients they usually get. Every client they met was almost always eager to tell YN about themselves because it meant their soulmate searching journey was starting. But, Taehyun seemed disinterested from the start. He was barely making eye contact and kept his answers short and concise.
“I enjoy reading. Non-fiction texts only.”
“I have a cat. I like cats.”
“I don’t care very much for movies.”
“I deeply value my privacy.”
It was bizarre considering the nature of the interview. YN’s goal was to find him a lover, but the man couldn’t care less about making his profile decent at the least.
“Okay,” YN sighed, eyes leaving the sad document on their screen to catch Taehyun’s gaze. His eyes catch theirs for a moment, unable to pull away. “What do you look for in a partner?”
Taehyun blinked, unsure how to answer. He hadn’t thought about that part. He sat speechless, mind racing trying to come up with an answer but he drew a blank.
“I don’t know,” he answered truthfully.
YN was silent for a moment, thinking. They felt their energy skyrocketing, realizing the opportunity that’s fallen into their lap. They clapped their hands, their enthusiasm catching Taehyun by surprise.
“That’s perfect!” They exclaimed, their grin wide and bright. They could see Taehyun was confused and quickly settled down, taking a deep breath to regain their composure.
“Taehyun,” they began, “I promise I will do everything in my power to find your perfect match.”
Good luck with that, Taehyun thought to himself. He had no confidence that he would finish this assignment having found a lover. Let alone, his “perfect match”. The only thing he was concerned about was finding a story—something worthy of the cover.
From the moment he walked in, Taehyun was observing and analyzing. There had to be something he could work with. And, seeing YN’s elaborate profile database, wall of testimonies, and deep investment in what they do made it abundantly clear. His story was somewhere in YN. But, because this was Taehyun, it wasn’t going to be just any story. This was his first cover opportunity, so he had to make it the best article he had ever written. And, he knew exactly what he had to do—an exposé on Seoul’s beloved cupid.
