You had no idea how you ended up in this situation. You keep fidgeting with your phone, completely panicked, nearly out of breath. The battery had died a few minutes ago so now you really had no way to get home if he doesn’t show up. But he has to show up right? He’s Taehyun’s friend. He wouldn’t be friends with an asshole who’d leave someone completely alone, in the middle of nowhere, right? Right?
Great. I’m all but at the mercy of someone I’ve had maybe one pleasantries exchange with, 4 years ago, while facetiming my brother. Awesome. Your thoughts were growing more and more unpleasant with the minute.
It felt like there was a breath caught in your stomach, with your already sweaty palms now beginning to shake. Everything around you was starting to spin and you were pretty sure you couldn’t feel one of your legs. Although you didn’t understand how you were still standing. He needed to show up any minute now or you were going to hyperventilate yourself into suffocation.
It was a completely tree-lined road and you couldn’t see anything but a forest stretching out on either side of the road. There were rustling sounds coming from the bushes in front of you (you told yourself it was likely just the wind), and strange noises, too similar to laughter, that felt like they were being carried by the wind. You could tell they weren’t coming from anywhere near you but some time ago when you had decided to try to find a way back and walked in the direction you came from, you felt that you could feel the voices closing in. So, you decided to walk back where you were and after sending your location you had to stay put. Currently you were zoning out while staring at a specific leaf on the tree in front of you, to calm yourself.
The sound of a vehicle brought you back to reality, and back to a state of crushing panic. Turning to your right, you could see two headlights coming towards you, headlights of what appeared to be a car. It made you suddenly stiff up, shiver running down your spine. This has to be him, right? There’s no way it’s not him, right?
Your jaw tightens when you hear it. The same laughter you’ve been faintly hearing for the past half an hour. Except this time much clearer, and coming from the very car that was heading towards you. You take a step back, even though you were already standing on the edge of the road, and almost fall down the visibly steep and grassy slope. Walking in the same direction, you were hoping that you’d get lost in the night and they wouldn’t see you.
The voices seemed to be closing in the distance between you. Just as you thought the car was going to pass you, it started slowing down. Then it came to a halt. Right next to you. Terrified, you turned your head to try to see the license plate or identify the car, but the license plate wasn’t visible from where you were standing, and you wouldn’t be able to name a car, any car, even if your life depended on it. Literally.
Your eyes darted towards the backseat window, which was open, and smelled too strongly of alcohol. Three guys, that seemed to be a little bit older than you, were sitting in the back, looking extremely drunk and grinning ear to ear.
Just as you decided to start walking again, the front window opened, letting out a smell you didn’t quite know.
“Are you in some kind of trouble pretty? Do you want help?”, the guy on the driver’s seat spoke, taking a drag from his cigarette. Or blunt? You weren’t sure, not enough light to even see his face clearly.
“No I’m alright.”, trying your best to hide the tremble in your voice.
“People that are alright aren’t usually walking alone on a deserted road in the middle of the night. You see how that could cause us some confusion?”
“Well then confusion cleared. Someone’s picking me up actually.”, you try to force a chuckle. Sounded more like a cough though.
“Oh someone? Who might that someone be?”
“You know,”, the guy sitting on the backseat window spoke, “instead of waiting here, you could just get a ride from us. Plenty of space.”
“No, that’s okay.”
You wanted to say more. Wanted to run, away from them, down the slope, anywhere. You wanted to do something. But your body was betraying you. You couldn’t move a muscle. From your forehead to your lips, down to your big toe. All you could do was stand there, absolutely still, and try not to cry. It was unlike you in every way imaginable, but it was also so much like you to not be able to do something when it actually matters, that it was making you tear up.
In all of your panic and useless fearful reminiscing, you didn’t notice the motorbike coming your way from the front. Actually, no one noticed, the headlight was off. It came to a halt in front of the car.
The guy on the front passenger seat spoke up for the first time, addressing the driver of the bike. “Move along buddy”
The biker tilted his head, as if genuinely confused why he’s being addressed so aggressively, straightened it back up, and then removed his helmet.
“Do we have a problem here?”
Is that him? That’s him right?! Fucking finally oh my god! That’s definitely him. Although he looks a little more….. maybe it’s just the lighting from the car’s headlight that’s doing wonders for him but this dude is kinda gorgeous…. Oh my god no focus! This is not the time, you have bigger fish to fry!
The passenger seat guy stepped out of the car.
“We won’t have one if you just move along.”
Oh no. All you were thinking about was whether the both of you could handle five guys by yourself. Probably fucking not right?!
Yeonjun started stepping forward.
“And why would I do that when I’m here to pick her up?”
Something about the way he said that and the look he had in his eyes made you believe and he could probably knock out all five of them and five more like them. The look in his eyes was intimidating, to say the least, and you could see that on passenger seat guy’s face too. You would’ve been so down bad if you weren’t freaking out right now.
“What are you to her?”, passenger seat guy said, but with visibly less confidence this time.
Yeonjun had stepped in between you and the guy now.
“Her boyfriend.”, you can’t lie your heart did do a little flip here. “And now I’m gonna repeat this question for the first and last time.”
He stepped towards the guy with every word he said. “Do.. We.. Have.. A.. Problem?”
The guy took a step back, mumbled something along the lines of “not worth it”, and got back in the car.
You both watched as they drove away.
As soon as they were out of sight, Yeonjun dropped down and sat in a squat position as he ran his fingers through his hair.
“Oh thank god they left! Close one. I would not have been able to even land a punch on that guy.”
He stood up to look at you, face beaming with pride, like a kid that had just won a race amongst his friends. The intimidating aura from before was nowhere to be found. He was still hot though.
“Did you wait for the very last minute to show up? God knows what would’ve happened to me if you were even a few more minutes late.”
“Shouldn’t you be thanking me right now? I had to search the entire area cause the location you sent was all wonky and your phone was off. I couldn’t even see properly because the headlights on my bike are broken so I had to put so much effort into carefully looking everywhere. I didn’t even know it was you until I looked at you properly just now.”
“So you just threatened five guys, that you wouldn’t have been able to fight off, to help a random stranger out?”
“Well, duh? What else was I supposed to do?”
“No yeah, exactly that. Thanks.”, you said, a little impressed at him and a little shocked at yourself for even asking that question.
“Right. Well, long time no see”, he flashed you an awkward but heart melting smile.
“We’ve never met.”
“We talked…? That one time? On the phone?”, he looked genuinely offended that you don’t remember. But you do. He kinda has a striking presence that’s pretty hard to not notice.
“All you said was “hii Taehyun’s sis” and I didn’t even reply?”
“Well then I guess you need to be greeting me.”
“Right”, you were extremely tired and as much as you would love to have this banter with your brother’s hot friend, you just did not have the energy. “Can you just take me to my house? I’m tired dude.”
“Are you sure you don’t want something to eat first? Or drink? You look like you could use some water.”
“Ouch. Thanks.”
“No, I meant you look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“Yea well, whatever happened tonight was a very scary experience.”
“Exactly. To the graveyard of shitty nights then. The convenience store.”, he said, tossing you a helmet and putting his on.
“But—”, he cut you off.
“Will you just hop on? I’m sure you were scared shitless earlier and you shouldn’t end the night on such a low. Also, you can’t argue with your only ride home.”
I mean, fair enough.
You put your helmet on and hopped on the bike.
The ride to the convenience store was pretty short, and awfully quiet. The entire area seemed pretty secluded for a city as bright and busy as Seoul, there was pretty much nothing but the road for a long while, and he took a few cuts on the path that had you questioning whether you were being abducted. Being a girl is such an amazing and fun experience. Sigh.
Thankfully he actually stopped in front of a convenience store and you both got off the bike.
“Do you wanna come in or do you wanna sit and wait here while I get us something to eat and drink?”
You did not feel like roaming around a whole convenience store right now so you chose the second option.
He came back with his hands full of stuff. Water, iced tea, two bowls of ramen, and some potato chips you’ve never had. Is this what heaven feels like?
That first sip of water genuinely brought life back into you. Yeonjun just watched you gulp half the bottle down in one breath. It was pretty adorable to him.
“So… are you ever going to tell me why you were stranded in the middle of nowhere?”, Yeonjun started.
“Do I have to?”
“Did I not just save your life? I feel like I should at least know why.”
“Fair enough. Prank. By middle school classmates.”
He looked so profoundly confused that it was funny to watch his face. And kind of cute because with said confusion came his unconsciously made confusion pouty face.
“I went to a reunion, since I’m back. Big mistake cause I forgot I didn’t really have friends in middle school. Only bullies. And I guess people don’t change. Goes for them as well as me.”
“Let the record show that I think whoever these classmates are, are assholes.”, then took a huge bite of ramen. His cheeks were completely filled with ramen and he had a mad expression on his face, which just made him look so cute that you had to laugh out loud.
“Why are you back anyway?”, you shot him a look at that question.
“Cmon, I just meant like Taehyun told us you left right after middle school, and that you never come back, they go to visit you every summer.”
“Just a spur of the moment kinda thing. Cause my family couldn’t visit this time you know?”
“Makes sense. So why would you go to that reunion if you don’t like anyone there?”
“You’re asking a lot of questions for someone I only met today.”
“You can ask me a few too. I’ll answer.”
“And why would you do that?”, everything about him was just making you more and more interested in the conversation.
“Will you answer the question I just asked if I answer one of yours?”
“Sure” Why not, you know? I’m already at rock bottom right now.
“Then that’s why I’ll answer. To get you to answer.”
He was a little peculiar if you were being honest. And that was somehow making him even hotter than he already was.
“Where the fuck is Taehyun?”, you asked.
“Oh”, for some reason the question made him chuckle out loud. “He’s in Paris.”
“WHAT?!”, you would’ve stood up from your chair if you had the energy to.
“Something about a fight with his long-distance girlfriend and this being the perfect time to go visit her since your parents are out of town. He’s been saving money for that flight for a long time you know?”
“That’s insane. His Romeo ass bouta get whooped all the way to Shakespeare’s grave when he gets back.”
“Why?”, he asked, with a laugh that genuinely seemed like an energy boost. “Isn’t what he’s doing romantic? Or are you not that kinda girl?”
“Not when his entire family has no idea that he’s all the way across the fucking world right now. And also what even is “that kinda girl”?”, you said with air quotes.
“Have you never been in love?”
“I probably have. I’ve never been crazy though.”
“Don’t they go hand in hand?”
“Why? Have you ever done anything crazy in love?”, you had to ask, he practically invited that question in.
“I believe it’s your turn to be answering the question I asked earlier.”
“Okay, fair enough. Why did I go? I guess I just wanted to prove to myself that I actually changed and became better and didn’t just run away. So… so much for that.”, you said, as you finished the last of your ramen. Yeonjun had finished a while back but you only just noticed.
“Doesn’t going back prove that you didn’t run away?”
Well, when he puts it like that. Weird that he seems to always know exactly what to say.
“Can we not talk about this anymore?”, you wanted to forget this night ever happened. You wanted every memory of this night erased from mind.
Both of you sat in silence for a while, not an awkward silence. Just a tired and understanding one. There was no one else around. All you could hear around you was the wind. The wind always seems to have something to say.
You look over to Yeonjun sitting in front of you. “What are you thinking about?”, you asked, without thinking much of it.
“How exhausting it must be for the wind to always have something to say.” What the actual fuck.
You try to brush it off. “Should we go home now?”
“As you wish.”
You get up and walk towards the bike, Yeonjun following behind you.
“Do you always pick up all your friends’ sisters on your bike?”, you leaned back on the bike, facing him as he made his way towards you.
“You wound me. This bike is sacred, I don’t just let anyone ride on it.”
“How many girls has that bullshit worked on?”
“Enough”, he smirked, closing in the gap between the both of you. Followed by a wink as he lightly pressed his body against you, placing both his palms on the bike on either side of you.
With his body pressing against yours, you could feel the heat radiating off of him. You were hoping he couldn’t hear your heart beating out of your chest. Why were you so nervous? Watching him this close, looking down at you as he gave you that cheeky smirk, you felt as if you were going to come undone right there.
He raised his hand to tuck your hair behind your ear, lightly caressing your face till his fingers reached your chin. With his thumb and index finger, he softly tipped your chin up. You placed your hands behind his neck, pulling him down till your lips hovered over each other’s for a few seconds, before he slid his hand down to your neck, pulling you into his breath.
The first kiss was slow. Soft. As if you were both afraid the other person was made of glass and one wrong movement would result in a crack. You both pulled away for a few seconds, enough to look into each other’s eyes, before the second kiss came crashing into you. Hungrier. Full of a want that you could feel oozing out of his body. All of the carefulness flew out the window and the kiss grew into something messier, something you couldn’t control.
Your fingers ran through his hair, making a little whine escape out of him, into your mouth. His hands trailed down your body, squeezing your ass lightly, as if to test out if you like it, before trailing up again, this time under your t-shirt, resting on your waist.
The kiss grew sloppier with every breath that you let into each other; you couldn’t even tell when your tongues came into contact. His hands found their way to the back of your thighs, lifting you up to sit on the bike. He placed himself between your legs, both hands back under your t-shirt, moving around and up your waist, squeezing your boobs every once in a while. You had one of your hands tangled in his hair and the other resting on his chest, where you could feel his heart beating rapidly. It was nice to know that you weren’t the only one. Your hands trailed down his torso, feeling his defined abs through his thin white tank.
“Take this back to my house?”, you breathed out, as he pulled away, now kissing and leaving marks on your neck. You moaned into the air and he snapped his neck back up.
Without saying a word, he pulled away from you and put on his helmet. You jumped down from the bike, understanding everything without him having to say it, put on your helmet and hopped on the bike right after him.
“Hold on tight. I’m gonna make this a sort trip.”, you could hear the cockiness in his voice.
You had thought earlier that you wanted to forget this night ever happened. Unfortunately for you though, Yeonjun would do everything he could to make sure that this was a goddamn night to remember.
