july.3.2020 | “Crazy” “And when you wake, something beautiful and terrifying will have risen up from within you” | I really hated this prompt because 1) crazy perpetuates dangerous stereotypes around mental illness and implies a negative assumption and judgement and 2) skulls and skeletons already have such scary connotations I believe that making terrifying skeletons shifts the attention away from the fact that they are incredibly beautiful, elegant, and graceful subjects. But that’s just my opinion | this is a redrawn frame from the killing joke by Alan Moore, when the joker first get out of the acid pit he fell into. I think it captures an interesting take on the prompt “crazy” | also I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with using skulls and skeletons to make scary pieces or a piece scarier |
