I have a question about magic and science. How do you write a coherent system mixing both sides? And what are the things someone should consider when creating ir?
I don’t have a lot of experience with this kind of creativity so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. My main advice is to keep it entertaining and accessible to your reader, whatever direction you take. Personally, when it comes to speculative fiction, I tune out when there’s too much rules dumped on me all at once. But I know there’s people who want that sort of exposition, so I might not be the best person to ask.
Looking back on this, I want to say that I liked how the original Dishonored handled that aspect of its steampunkish setting. Both were vague enough to give the developers wiggle room, but structured enough to not be all over the place. That’s what I look for in sci-fi or anything like that: freedom to do everything but the restraint to do what’s needed.

This week, Jon and Joe talk about superficiality in stories, and why it’s not alright we talk about Batman a lot. We eventually talk about other stuff, but it’s mostly Batman. Spoilers abound.

Because of the format of Mostly Walking, we poke a lot of fun at the games we play. Which is fine; snark is entertaining, and there’s a lot about these games that’s pretty ridiculous. But I don’t want it to get lost that there’s lot to love about these games as well, especially for anyone...
Writing is About Winning
The boys discuss why it can be hard getting started on writing stories, provide the audience with a helpful writing prompt, and show you their own results.

I am a street photographer in New York City. Several months ago, I was approached by a representative of DKNY who asked to purchase 300 of my photos to hang in their store windows “around the world.” They offered me $15,000. A friend in the industry told me that $50 per photo was not nearly enough to receive from a company with hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue. So I asked for more money. They said “no.” Today, a fan sent me a photo from a DKNY store in Bangkok. The window is full of my photos. These photos were used without my knowledge, and without compensation. I don’t want any money. But please REBLOG this post if you think that DKNY should donate $100,000 on my behalf to the YMCA in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. That donation would sure help a lot of deserving kids go to summer camp. I’ll let you guys know if it happens.
