Today was the day. You had been talking to this guy for a few weeks now, trading messages back and forth about various interests. Finally, you decided to ask him out. He wasn't by any means unattractive, and you both had a lot in common. You both decided to meet at this little cafe towards the downtown area. It was a quiet little spot, not very many people working there. It was the kind of place you went late at night to study or get a snack during a day of errands.
You stood in the mirror, questioning your outfit. You'd changed three times already, worrying he wouldn't like it. You'd both agreed on casual dress, but it always felt like too much or too little. This was the first date you'd had since your last big breakup, which was over a year ago...
You wanted to make a good first impression for him. Eventually, you decided on something, sighing in relief. "Nik..." you mumbled, dusting off your jeans. You sighed, almost dreamily, trying not to over think anymore. You knew your friends didn't approve of him, they found him strange or immature. They were afraid you'd get hurt again, since you weren't the brightest when it came to spotting manipulation. You wanted to give him a chance, anyway. You thought everyone deserved a chance, even the weirdos.
You clasped your necklace together, spotting your clock. "3:30..." You whispered, your eyes popping. "Fuck!" You were late, like beyond late by your standards. You scurried out the door, face flushed. You hoped he hadn't left the cafe by now...
Nikolas sat at a table in the back corner of the cafe, staring out the window solemnly. He knew he shouldn't have agreed to this... Romance had never been something that worked out for him, he didn't know why he thought you'd be different.
He gathered his things, and as he was getting up, you stumbled into the cafe, panting and red in the face. You immediately spotted him standing in the far corner, his circular glasses slightly crooked on his face, and his curly hair hanging in his eyes. His eyes widened as you rushed over to him.
"Nikolas?" You asked, scanning his face for any signs of anger. He didn't even look slightly agitated. "I'm so sorry, I know I'm, like, almost an hour late... I just got caught up doing other things, and- I'm sorry I kept you waiting, Nik."
You gave a small nod, but he only smiled. "Its totally fine!" And you felt a huge weight lift off your shoulders. "Lets just sit, yea?" He put a reassuring hand on your shoulder, which you flinched at but accepted anyway.
You stared out the window, realizing how dark the sky had gotten. It was winter, which you always loved. The two of you had been talking for hours, empty cups sat between you. You took note of Nik's liking for hot chocolate and peppermints, of which he had grabbed a handful of on the way in.
"You still with me?" He snickered, waving a hand in front of your face. You snapped your head back to him, blushing. "Oh, yea! Sorry..." You felt embarrassed, but he didn't seem upset. In fact, this entire date, despite all the small things you felt were flawed about yourself that had made themselves known, he showed no negative emotions or reactions.
After the time you'd both had, to Nik, it would've felt awful to act like anything you did bothered him. He knew everybody had their quirks or annoying habits, and he was willing to accept that. Especially for someone like you. Someone so pretty, someone who was so open minded. Not once had he felt judged this entire time, and that made him feel warm inside. Acceptance was something he longed for, and he felt like he was finding that in you...
You thought long and hard about what you were about to say, never taking your eyes off his face. "Its getting dark..." You said softly, staring out at the snow on the ground. He took the hint, gathering the trash off the table and throwing it away. You looked down at the table, tracing a finger over the strokes of blue crayon on the paper you two doodled on. Small tic-tac-toe tables, hangman, all the little tabletop games that usually came on a kids menu.
You picked up the paper and folded it into sixths, slipping it in your pocket. "(___)?" He tilted his head slightly. "You okay?" You looked back up at him, smiling. "I'm just fine, Nik..."
You both walked back to your apartment, hand in gloved hand. It was late, and he wanted to make sure you got home safe. People can be evil, and the blizzard on the rise sure wasn't helping ensure anyone's safety...
You both stopped to look up at the stars. "Wow..." You whispered. He didn't divert his gaze from the sky, but responded. "I know..." Hi voice dropped to a much more hushed tone. "Almost as pretty as you..." Your whole face went red. "Oh, stop!" You giggled, pushing him lightly.
You turned the other way to unlock your apartment door, but the words danced around your mind, nearly hypnotic...
You felt a thud on your back and then cold. You turned around to see Nik looking anywhere but you, smiling like he was holding back a laugh. The snow on his glove gave it away even more. "Ohoho, no you didn't..." You smiled back. "No clue what you're talking about- Ack!" He was hit in the chest with a tightly packed snowball. You were in for it now...
You both had your little snowball fight, and after all the laughter and goofing around, you invited him in. "Your hairs wet from the snow... Come in so you can dry off." You said softly. He protested weakly at first but gave in at your insistence. "You'll catch a cold like that, don't be silly..."
You both sat on the couch under the same blanket, watching holiday movies and eating popcorn. They had always been your favorite... You were both snuggled close, his arm over your shoulder and your head leaning on his chest. Nik had asked to stay over, considering the snow storm happening outside. You agreed, albeit a little nervous...
You two were absolutely head over heels for each other, anyone could see that. At some point during one of your mid-movie ramblings, you both locked eyes. It felt natural, the way you both leaned into one another. It was a soft kiss, your hands in his hair and his arms around your neck. You both pulled back, only to go back in again. Each one was gentle, delicate even.
Without knowing it, you both hoped this was the start of something new, something good for the both of you... You pulled off, and Nik had the goofiest lovestruck grin on his face. You giggled at him, at how adorable he was. He adjusted his glasses, blushing a deep red.
You both squeezed each other tight, so happy to have found someone like one another. You were both so accepting of the other, open minded and not bothered or ashamed by any flaws. You took each other at face value, and the blatant affection made something so sweet start to bloom.
Curled up in each others arms, Nik buried his face in your hair. "Goodnight, (___)..." He whispered, closing his eyes. You whispered back, hopefully loud enough for him to hear. "Goodnight, Nik..." And with a content hum, you both passed out, still cuddling close.
Good afternoon/evening everypony! ^_^
