Happy 45th Anniversary, Mom & Dad! Thanks for teaching us how to love and play, and for giving us freedom and unwavering support to learn and grow independently. Here's to many more great years ahead!

Back on 'Trak Just a quick jumper this time from Chicago to Milwaukee, but always a good time. After sharing a delicious Hill Farmstead beer with my best friend from college, @kristineholst and I are excited to be headed to Milwaukee, where we can plant for many days (and more, for me).

Dark n stormy We had a great wedding weekend with old college friends in Middletown, NY, where dozens of old buildings were condemned but still standing, including this old train station. From there we drove 1.5 hrs to Hotchkiss, where my brother teaches, and had a blast with his family. From here, we'll head up towards Vermont & Montreal, assuming @kristineholst starts feeling better :/ (at O& A Station)

Clowning around 'Twas fun to finally see the Bushwick Collective murals in NYC yesterday. Then we took two more trains up to Middletown, NY for this weekend's wedding. And after a week on a couch and a night sharing a small futon without sheets with Spencer, I finally got to sleep in a real bed last night! With my girlfriend, even! Woo! One of the most surprising things about Richmond is its vibrant art scene. Nearly every wall that isn't covered in preserved old signage is covered in an awesome mural.

Southern Sunrise #viewfromamtrak On the 80 Carolina train to Richmond today. It's a beautiful day to sit and state out the window for 8 hours. :)

In transition On the first sunny day all week, we ditched out of Savannah today (after taking this pic on a morning walk) and up to Beaufort -- somewhere my dad remembered his parents vacationing, and I had heard of through golf. Turns out the town has changed a lot over the years, and developed into a tourist town ready to take it's elder visitors' money. It was worth finding out, but we didn't stay long. At least I finally got to hit some golf balls on the way back to Columbia :)

Light the way The Tybee lighthouse was first built in 1736, but had to be rebuilt three times by 1773. And that was before it helped guide French and Northern ships towards Savannah in the Revolutionary and Civil wars, respectively. The basic structure still stands, but has been touched up a bit, as it didn't make it through those wars unscathed (Jasper Greene, one of the more famous Savannah residents inflicted the most damage when he realized it was helping the Union). Fountain of Youth Today involved a whole lot of walking through old houses and small parks (which is basically what you do here), some fried oysters on Tybee Island (good, but crab soup was better), and some fun tales from my parents about the years before I was born. The sun even came out enough to burn a little skin this afternoon :) (at Forsyth Park)
