hi guys, sorry for the lack of updates but the hiatus is ongoing. more below the cut:
my mom had severe pneumonia, if you all recall. she also lost her hearing while she was in the hospital for reasons unknown. she came home on august 17th with a steroid treatment to try to get her hearing back.
on august 22nd, she started complaining of stomach pain. on friday, august 23rd, we took her to the hospital and learned she had a stomach ucler that had ruptured. they think the steroids and stress caused this.
she’s been in the hospital since then, under monitoring. they didn’t want to do surgery because of the pneumonia and ms, because when your lungs are recovering, sometimes they do not work after a vent. lungs are iffy, once they become weak, and then aren’t used, sometimes they just... don’t want to again. if they had done the surgery, they were concerned that she would be on a vent for the rest of her life, because her lungs would possibly have not wanted to work on their own again.
on september 3rd, i got a call from the doctors. they had to do surgery, it was no longer a matter of she can heal from this. she was not healing, and the pain she was in was only getting worse. that night, at 9:30p, they did surgery.
the results of the surgery, what the surgeon found was... not good. she had a pocket of puss. her bowels were covered in a lining of something, i cannot remember the term. though the surgery was only an hour long, and in the end a success, the surgeon was shocked at what he’d found, and her pain tolerance overall. a normal person would have been screaming in agony, my mother was only letting out occasional groans of complaint.Â
september 4th they took her off the vent at 1p. she is breathing on her own, her lungs are very strong. her heart rate, which was high because of the pain, is lowering slowly.Â
she’s currently in recovery from the surgery, which will be at least 2 weeks in the hospital. everything is looking well but, she obviously is in a lot of pain and has been put on dilaudid, which is.. one of the strongest pain medicines you can get.
i’m obviously dealing with... a lot right now and won’t be around for a bit. but she is healing, and she will be okay.
