i am a huge fan of secret casual hookup to friends w benefits to lovers saintstar. they both get high off of attention they get at parties but hogwarts is not that big and it gets messy sometimes and somehow they turned to each other and it meant nothing and it wasnt serious at all and suddenly its sneaking around and long talks post hookup and bonding and everyones like since when are you so close??? and suddenly its jealousy and longing and denial and opening up and ignoring it the next day and more talking than hooking up and repressed feelings and a secret that everyone now knows about except the two of them. and then its accidentally being romantic because they cant help it and being exclusive without talking about it first bc they just dont want anyone else and everyones like “GET TOGETHER ALREADY” but nooooo wdym they dont have feelings for each other who said that??? and they go out to hogsmeade a couple times (THAT WAS NOTHING) and james makes sirius confront his feelings and lily makes mary confront hers but they cant tell each other so theyre just both actively pining for each other for a bit. and then the confession is drunken ofc and marys like tell me again when you sober up and sirius is terrified bc does that mean she doesnt like him so he DOESNT tell her. and they both like each other but they dont really trust each other and they saw how they treat other hookups and they both have one foot in one foot out and everyone else is so over it bc its so obvious theyre in love. and then idk its another party and theyre flirting with other people looking at each other the whole night and more jealousy and sirius leaves and mary chases him and theres a breakdown and they both confess at the same time and theyre like. well ig were together now?? and its messy and they argue all the time and its chaotic and hypersexual and dramatic but also iconic and loving in their own way and mean on the outside supportive on the inside and its the two hottest and best dressed people on campus and i love them

mary collects empty bottles and puts flowers in them. shes the only one that can handle bugs in their room without screaming. she doesnt really make her bed she just throws a blanket over it and calls it a day. her wardrobe doors are always open for some reason. her desk is neat but her shoes are all over the place bc she always kicks them off when she enters the room.

their drain is always clogged bc of their hair and they have a system where they take turns levitating it out. they have scheduled girls night once a week. all three of them are night owls. they all use marlenes owl to send post (its a communal owl now, they have joint custody). they have a designated shared snack drawer. they raid the kitchens regularly using a secret passage the boys know nothing about. they smoke weed and have abba and fleetwood mac and queen listening parties.

marlene starts stashing liquor but the stash steadily depletes and they haven't had any gatherings bc marlene now needs a drink anytime she reads the daily prophet, its the only thing that will stop her hands from shaking

mary becomes a little more spaced out and a little more forgetful as she takes up the habit of obliviating the most gruesome details out of her mind so she can sleep at night without the nightmares shaking her awake

lily takes learning how to brew sleep potions because she cant sleep, regularly modifying the recipe so its stronger, she sleeps so deep you could mistake her for dead yet still wakes up with dark circles under her eyes because you can't really replace natural sleep with knocking yourself out

remus's fingers become yellowish from all the cigarettes, his hands and mouth permanently smell like tobacco now and his teeth are in another state completely and he's disgusted with himself but hears someone mention greyback again and he needs the dizzying nicotine to occupy his head and hands before he does something stupid

sirius can't go anywhere without putting on a glamour charm because he's always getting beat up, getting himself into fights, taunting slytherins and known death eaters, and he likes to think that its in rebellion but its in hopelessness and desperation and an attempt to feel something other than that

peter first goes through his mother's pills and then finds his own, losing himself as he apparates to muggle pharmacies and confunds the workers to get them because he doesn't know how else to stop the panic attacks. after a while using imperio on them just becomes easier

james can only hold up for so long before he too becomes a little slower, a little more tired as he sneaks around to smoke another joint because its the only thing that can calm him down as he adds names to the mental list he keeps of the dead, praying his parents won't be added to it too soon

i’m so appreciative to suzanne for reframing the rebellion from the original trilogy as a “they saw their moment and took it” type situation and showing us that they’ve been trying, over and over, with so many failed attempts, to break the arena and incite a rebellion for decades. in this current political climate never giving up hope is so essential. haymitch wasn’t the first nor the last, and they kept going even when it seemed completely futile, and that’s what counts, and what ultimately saves them all.
