Artists: Abdullah Al Saadi / Reem Al Ghaith / Lateefa bint Maktoum
Abdullah Al Saadi (b. 1967, lives and works in Khorfakkan) holds a degree in English Literature from Al Ain University, UAE. In 1994-1996 he studied Japanese painting at Kyoto Seika University in Japan and in 1998 attended painting workshops at College of Arts, Edinburgh in Scotland. His work is a daily practice of recording, inventing normative groupings, and documenting species that are beyond scientific inquiry.

He was included in the 10th Sharjah Biennial (2011), 8th Sharjah Biennial (2007), 6th Sharjah Biennial (2003), 5th Sharjah Biennial (2001), 4th Sharjah Biennial (1999), 3rd Sharjah Biennial (1997) and 24th Sao Paulo Biennial in 2004.
Al Saadi is a member of The Emirates Fine Arts Society.
Reem Al Ghaith (b. 1985, lives and works in Dubai) is a young polymath working in the fields of visual art, graphic design, printmaking, and photography. Al Ghaith holds a BSc in Visual Communication from the School of Architecture and Design, American Universty of Sharjah, UAE. Her work examines changes in the urban and social landscape of the UAE and how these relate to tradition and history.
Al Ghaith’s first international exhibition took place at the Lessedra World Print Annual in Sofia, Bulgaria when she was still a student in 2006. In 2010 Al Ghaith’s work was featured in several exhibitions including Dreamlands, Center Pompidou, Paris, France; Future of Tradition - Tradition of Future 100 years After the Exhibition Masterpieces of Muhammadan Art, Haus der Kunst, Munich, Germany; in 2009 Emirati Expressions, Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi, UAE; Re-source, Elementa Gallery, Dubai, UAE; Provisions of the Future, Sharjah Biennial 9th, Sharjah, UAE; Dubai Underground, Like Spice Gallery, New York, U.S.A; Across the Gulf: Brisbane Biennial, Brisbane, Australia and in 2008 Vibrations Within, Tashkeel, Dubai, UAE; Suhoor Preview an Emarati Exhibition, Al Bastakiya, Dubai, UAE; Private Preview by Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak: Emarati Art 2nd Arab Women Conference, Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Al Ghaith’s work was featured in several international publications such as, ARTnews Magazine, Next Level Magazine, The Monocle, The Art Newspaper, and Le Monde. Al Ghaith also writes and was a panelist in “The History of Photography and Contemporary Photography in the Gulf Region” a 2008 discussion forum at the Dubai International Financial Center.
Lateefa bint Maktoum (b. 1985, lives and works in Dubai) graduated from Zayed University, Latifa College in 2007 with a Bachelors Degree in Visual Arts. She has been an exhibiting artist since 2004, beginning by creating public art works in addition to creating work for auction in aid of charitable organizations, including Médecins Sans Frontières. In 2006 Lateefa won first prize in the Ibdaa Media Student Awards in the digital photography category. Her first gallery show was Perceptions at the Third Line gallery in Dubai.

Lateefa bint Maktoum is the founder and director of Tashkeel, a public studio providing specialist facilities for artists and designers living and working in the UAE. Since 2007 bint Maktoum curated Biladi (2010); Made in Tashkeel (2010); Against the Grain (2010); Portrait of a Generation (2010); Memoriale (2009); Point of Encounter (2009); Time of Humanity (2009); Silent Conversation (2009); Vibrations Within (2008); 27 Years of Migration (2008) and Minus Reality (2007). Lateefa bint Maktoum has been the honorary patron of START since January 2008.
