How Net Neutrality will Recede Post-April 23d, 2018
The Following text is copied from the thread of the official twitter of fightforthefuture.org:
@fightfortheftr (April 19, 2018): There have been a lot of inaccurate reports that the FCCâs repeal of #NetNeutrality will officially go into effect next week on April 23rd. Thatâs not true. Itâs a bit more complicated than that. Ready? Here we go:
Its understandable many journos are confused by this. Itâs legitimately confusing. The FCC order said it would go into effect 60 days after publication in the Federal Register, which would have been April 23rd. But, it still has to be approved by the Office of Management & Budget.
There was another FCC filing in the Federal Register that would imply the earliest the OMB could approve this (and its worth noting that approval is basically just a technicality) is actually April 27th, but its likely to happen some time after that, possibly even weeks after.
The most important thing for EVERYONE to understand is that nothing catastrophic or dramatic is going to happen immediately when the FCC rules go into effect. Telecom shills will immediately start saying âSee? The sky didnât fall, we never needed #NetNeutrality.âÂ
Theyâre lying.
The ISPs arenât going to immediately start blocking content or rolling out paid prioritization scams. They know Congress and the public are watching them. Rather, the death of #NetNeutrality will be slow and insidious. You might not even notice it at first.
And thatâs the worst part. What will happen is over time ISP scams and abuses will become more commonplace and more accepted. Theyâll roll out new schemes that appear good on their face but undermine the free market of ideas by allowing ISPs to pick winners and losers.
Over time weâll see less awesome startups. Less awesome videos. Less diverse online content. And weâll see more content that our ISPs want us to see. The Internet will be watered down and manipulated. It will change forever in ways that harm our democracy.Â
But it will take time.
So: donât fall for ISP lobbyists talking points. Theyâre ALREADY claiming that #NetNeutrality was never needed since the sky hasnât fallen, and the rules havenât even gone into effect. But also donât panic. The Internet is not going to die next week. Keep calm and keep fighting.
The Senate will vote in a matter of weeks on a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to block the FCCâs repeal. Now is the moment to get engaged.
Everyone: take action at http://BattleForTheNet.com

I didnât know there were twenty thousand vegans on tumblr!!!
You can be against animal cruelty and not be a vegan
You can be against animal cruelty and not be a vegan
Also given the fact some vegans wilfully neglect their petâs diet for personal belief reasons you can in fact be a vegan and be ok with animal cruelty when its convenient for you.
^^^^ Reblogging especially for that last comment.
Pass it on.
Follow Us For Cats!
Legit I just had this talk with my parents this morning. My day bought an Easter Lilly and I told him to get rid of it
Very important!
Also important to note: Daffodils are part of the lily family, so they pose a threat to cats as well. Be aware and keep the purry friends safe.Â
Maggie Menu
On the menu for Maggie tonight is puréed sweet potato, puréed brown rice, sprouted organic tofu, chia seeds, and digestive enzymes. Does she look excited? She is!
This dog does not look excited, this dog looks malnourished.
The diet you are feeding your dog places a huge burden entirely on the pancreas, forcing it to produce large amounts of amylase to deal with the starch, cellulose, and carbohydrates in plant matter. (yes, even with your supplements) The carnivoreâs pancreas does not secrete cellulase to split the cellulose into glucose molecules, nor have dogs become efficient at digesting and assimilating and utilizing plant material as a source of high quality protein.
When this stuff sits in the petâs intestine (yes even with your supplemented enzymes) it not only irritates the lining of the bowels but also provides the perfect warm, wet environment with plenty of undigested sugars and starches as food for bacteria.
I respect your choice in leading a vegan lifestyle, but please do not force this on your pet who does not recognize the difference, your dog absolutely needs a healthier diet or it is going to develop health issues and I guarantee you, will not live as long as it could otherwise.
side reminder that some dogs can have vegan meat and be completely nourished and content, loving and excited over their meals. See: Onisionâs two dogs, Dobs and Leelu. Actually, his name is Greg. He, his wife Lainey, and their two dogs are all vegetarian, and both Dobs and Leelu thrive. They look very well nourished, are energetic, very loving towards both Greg and Lainey, and they are fed vegetarian foods. Do dogs and cats eat meat? Absolutely. With the right nourishments, can they live, thrive, and live a happy and healthy life without it? You bet your sweet ass they can. Stop bagging on this person for feeding this to their dog. I may advise offering meaty treats to your pet, perhaps chop some chicken or throw in some cooked red meat, but your dog seems very okay to me. The meat would be an added bonus that may please your pooch and also provide additional protein and minerals. He/She seems healthy to me, and also seems interested in the food youâre about to feed them. Do not let these people tell you that youâre abusing your dog. If you choose to continue their diet in this way, I would definitely look more into different kinds of treats that would help with the digestion more, though I donât know too much in that area. Best of luck to both you and your puppy dog!
Hi hello you seem new to veterinary science and animal welfare in general so let me educate you on some topics that you are completely wrong about
1) âside reminder that some dogs can have vegan meat and be completely nourished and content, loving and excited over their meals.â
This is an assumption. The assumption that dogs are omnivores remains to be proven, whereas the truth about dogs being natural carnivores is very well-supported by the evidence available to us and is understood by many science welfare groups, universities, and doctors of veterinary science.
Dogs and wolves share 99.8% of their mitochondrial DNA, those who insist dogs did not descend from wolves must disprove the litany of scientific evidence that concludes wolves are the ancestors of dogs. And guess what? The wolf is a carnivore. Since a dogâs internal physiology does not differ from a wolf, dogs have the same physiological and nutritional needs as those carnivorous predators.
By stating otherwise you are ignoring and disregarding the work of contributing doctors, educators, and researchers who have compiled over 300 years of research and observations of the wild canine.
2) Do dogs and cats eat meat? Absolutely. With the right nourishments, can they live, thrive, and live a happy and healthy life without it?
No. But congratulations, you got one thing right, dogs and cats eat meat. Can they live a happy and healthy life without it? No they cannot. Cats and dogs health is largely dependent on the bodyâs ability to digest and make use of the food that is a part of their natural diet that is supplemented from meats. By creating a lack of naturally produced (meat, not supplements) protein in the body of the animal, you are putting your animals at risk for something called protein-losing enteropathy. Although this condition can affect any breed or age of dog, some dog breeds are more likely than others. That being said, feeding your dog and cat an all vegan or vegetarian diet and expecting them to thrive on it is a gamble at best.
There is an entire array of problems that can arise from a lack of natural protein.Â
Occasional bouts of diarrhea
Chronic diarrhea
Weight loss
Lack of energy (lethargy)
Difficulty breathing (dyspnea)
Enlarged abdomen
Legs and feet may be puffy or swollen (edema)
Cancer in the intestines
Infection in the intestines
Bacteria such as salmonella(from rotting plant material)
Fungal infection
Intestinal parasites like hookworms and whipworms
Inflammation of the intestines (inflammatory bowel disease)
Food Allergies
Stomach or intestinal ulcers
Congestive heart failure
Problems with the movement of lymphatic fluid out of the intestines (lymphangiectasia)
3) âHe/She seems healthy to me, and also seems interested in the food youâre about to feed them.â
Hey, wrong again. This dogs nose is dried out, it is almost a pale white pink, this is an indication of dehydration or something more serious. The eyes are not clear and bright as they should be, they are red and puffy around the edges, the lining of the eyelids should be pink rather than red. This dog also has a blank stare on its face, and the nose is not pointing at the food, this means the dog is uninterested and is a sign of lethargy. This dog is begging for this meal to be something nutritious. I work at a highly respected veterinary hospital and I see this more often than you would think, I know how to tell when a dog looks malnourished, and so would you if you worked and studied every day in the field of veterinary medicine.
Next time I hope you will take the initiative to educate yourself on these and other important topics on the care for your animal, before you preach something you have no idea about.
Not to mention with cats specifically, they NEED a protein called taurine. Taurine is found in fish, meat and human breast milk. Without enough taurine your cat will fucking go blind. They canât even eat dog food without going blind because it doesnât have a high enough taurine content. Catâs (neutered) need around 25% of their diet to consist of protein to be healthy and that protein MUST BE chicken, fish, or beef or they will go blind and eventually die from malnutrition. Cats also must have plenty of fat in their diet because they canât produce their own. Bottom line if your feeding your cat (or dog but that was discussed more above) a vegan diet, youâre murdering your animal and causing it to suffer immensely in the process.Â
How could the OP even bullshit themselves into thinking their dog looks even remotely excited? Pretty sure thatâs a Lab, and Iâve had two at my house for the past 12 years. They look absolutely nothing like that when itâs their dinnertime. Theyâre full of energy, with wagging tails and bouncing impatience and eagerly dig into their bowls.
That is the most apathetic look about a meal I have ever seen a dog have.
Iâm glad to see this post back on my dash because it means people are still spreading this around. And this is super important information.
Dogs and cats cannot be vegan or vegetarian. If you want a pet that can, get a fucking gerbil.
Reblog every time.
Stop forcing your philosophies on your pets! They donât care if you believe meat is murder, theyâŠwantâŠmeat!!!
As your pet, theyâre dependent on you for their food. But just because you CAN force an unhealthy diet on your pet doesnât mean you SHOULD.
Just a note on one of the above comments: Cats can also get proper taurine from sources like turkey, duck, other game birds and lamb (and rodents, technically, but you probably wonât find that used in commerically available cat foods) The protein you feed your cat does not have to *specifically* be chicken, fish or beef
In the last 11 years, PETA has killed 29,426 dogs, cats, rabbits, and other domestic animals.
Read more here! [x]
Warning: Some of the following graphic photos may distress the reader. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is...
Ethical treatment my ass
This is a fantastic article that well sums up the suffering and horrific circumstances that PETA supports! PLEASE read!
I DONâT support PETA
I refuse to support PETA! I never had and never will. (Also donât come at me with âWeâll you eat meat.â Fuck you Iâm vegan)
Hereâs why I donât support PETA
They ABUSE animals! They beat and slaughter animals themselves. They act so holy and then fucking do the same thing they scream at people not to do
They threatened one of my old teachers because he killed a rat that was biting his 5 year old granddaughter
They harass people 24/7. They will threaten follow, throw paint, etc. Theyâre the vegan westboro Baptist church. Like shit. StooOoOoOoooop
They try to take away peopleâs service dogs. Fuck off.
They sexualize woman. They use naked woman covered in next to nothing or nothing to get their point across
They use graphic videos, and pictures to also get their point across (granted it doesnât bother me but it doesnât work)
Body shaming! For no reason should you ever body shame anyone. I donât care who you are. Yelling at someone calling them fat or other gross names are not okay. FUCK YOU if you do.
They give vegans a bad rep. Many people think of vegans as horrible people because the shit PETA does.
The try to shut down about any production that has a animal in it that they PERSONALLY feel is not okay.
Thereâs probably more but Thatâs all I have
PETA and the ATF are the same
both: -filled with idiots -have no idea what they`re talking about ever -kill dogs for no fucking reason like the scum they are -perform illegal acts
Spread the word!
Seeing some of those vegan messages, I can shake the feeling that not only vegans have never seen a farm in their lives, they assume no one else has either.
I mean, I recently saw someone being like âwould you kill the animal yourself? Of course not! So eating meat is bad because of thatâ And like, I know people who have killed animals; I personally canât stomach watching an animal being killed and I know that because Iâve been around when animals are being killed to be eaten; I have heard their cries as they die (and itâs honestly disturbing) and yet I had no trouble eating them.
And Iâve heard the arguments on milk, being theft and gross and what have you; like, my grandparents raise cattle, I know where milk comes from, Iâve seen cows being milked, Iâve drank newly milked milk.
Itâs like, none of their arguments work on people who have any knowledge of farm animals or farms or who have been in a farm for any significant amount of time. Itâs why I call it classist and urbanist (as in people who live in Urban areas)
Thanks for the input, @makiruz! I personally grew up on a farm and I can testify and agree 100%. People shouldnât be scolded for eating meat and using/drinking dairy products. The problem isnât eating meat, the problem is how the meat is gained and produced.
Another issue with the Vegan propaganda is that itâs awfully ethnocentric.
Like itâs all âyou wouldnât eat a dog would you?â Except lots of people eat dogs! Many Muslims find dogs dirty and ugly. And on the flip side lots of people all over the world have farm animals like chickens, pigs and rabbits as pets
Not everyone is like you
if you are an animal love or vegan
you should not support PETA. this article lists 10 things that the author finds ridiculous, including how all of their shelters are kill shelters, parodying a childrenâs game, and stealing peopleâs pets. for those who value human life way above animal life, but still love their animal, this article is an opinion-based one that speaks of an ad-campaign that was jumpstarted off a man who was involved in one of the very rare shark attacks (TRIGGER WARNING: the ad itself is a bit graphic). in general, you can find PETA not know how things work. they want to ban working dogs, also commonly known as service dogs. this organization tries to claim that people who are physically or mentally handicapped should be able to rely on their human brothers and sisters. i would like to make it clear, THAT IS A THING. human aids are a thing, people. but, sometimes, people do not want to rely on another person. service dogs are a substitution to do things like open doors for those in wheelchairs, sense when their person is about to have an episode of some sorts. being animal-friendly or vegan or vegetarian or literally anything along those lines is awesome and great and i encourage all to do that. i do not encourage that you live by the ways of PETA, who are not for animals, just against humans.
The unapologetic vegan perspective
PETA -People for the Extinction of Tame Animals Now take the skank âreportingâ that is Ecorazzi.com ⊠there you will find some twisted, vile shit. For the animals my ethical ASS!
HERE IT IS, in print â the total End Game that Animal Rights (PETA) wants and is working toward and chipping away at - Abolishing ALL pet ownership, including domestic pets. Think about who you support - Are you an Animal LOVER or an Animal Abolitionist? âNoseyâs Lawâ is all about Abolishing animals from our lives, not just elephants from traveling circuses.
but still not giving a crap about the âârightsââ of animals displaced/killed for their own food, clothes, and so on, aka pest control in crops, mining, oil, road building/transport, building, industry.Â
Animal welfare and animal rights - how to know the difference
I have been meaning to write this for a while, and today I saw it is almost to the day one year since I made this post, so I thought, why not.
There is hardly any greater misunderstanding in the public about animals than the misunderstanding about animal rights.
The public think animal rights activists may be a bit crazy sometimes, like when they dress up as animals on the street, or lay naked on the street with fake blood on them, but the general public perception seems to be that these are people with their heart in the right place who simply want to end animal suffering. Theyâre protesting against fur farms and the horrible conditions in factory farms, so let them be.
Animal welfare is a term the public may be less familiar with, or have not heard about at all. If they have heard it, they may think it is a synonym to animal rights.
This is where the huge misunderstanding comes in, because while animal rights and animal welfare (from here on, AR and AW) come from a common idea that we should stop abusing and torturing animals, the conclusions drawn in these two viewpoints are worlds apart.
In the shortest and simplest terms, AW wants bigger cages, while AR wants empty cages.
By the official definitions:
Animal welfare: ââŠdenotes the desire to prevent unnecessary animal suffering (that is, whilst not categorically opposed to the use of animals, wanting to ensure a good quality of life and humane death).â
Animal rights: "âŠdenotes the philosophical belief that animals should have rights, including the right to live their lives free of human intervention (and ultimate death at the hands of humans). Animal rightists are philosophically opposed to the use of animals by humans.â âthe rights of animals to live free from human exploitation and abuse.â
There is the key word AR use. âExploitationâ. It is an extremely vague word on purpose, because it can be molded to fit any situation the ARA (animal rights activist) wants.
If you own a dog that is your spoiled little prince or princess that you take for walks every day, sacrifice huge deals of time and money to keep as happy and healthy as possible, and your dog is the happiest little animal in the world, to the AR mindset, your dog is still being exploited.
Your dog may live like a king, but he canât choose exactly when to go pee, you decide it for him. He canât decide exactly what to eat and when, you decide that. When you take him outside, you do it on the end of a leash, which to the AR mindset, is reminiscent of a slave owner with their slave. Ultimately, your dog never chose to live with you, and so he is being enslaved and exploited for your needs.
I take the common example of the dog as they are the âmost domesticatedâ animal we have, the most established and accepted animal in the modern world.
And even these animals, AR wants extinct. Not just because they think the happiest dog in the world is still nothing but a slave, but also because they think dogs, and all domestic animals in fact, are deformed perversions that should never have been created in the first place.
To be fair, there are also legitimate grievances to the AR mindset. They see, as we all do, millions upon millions of unwanted pets being abused, neglected, thrown into shelters where they live deprived or face an early death from a needle or gas chamber.
The only solution to this never-ending suffering, to the AR, is to end it all. Pull the plug. They believe that too many animals are suffering at the hands of humans, and only a dead animal will never suffer. So the natural conclusion is to kill them all humanely and turn their kind extinct, so no animal will ever again suffer at the hands of humans.
Then there is the slaughter industry (or the industry for meat, leather and fur).
One may silently ponder how a devoted ARA can one moment say that âvegan is the only solutionâ, because âthere is no such thing as humane slaughter, youâre killing a sentient being that wants to live, itâs like saying humane murder! Killing a being that wants to live is always wrong, period.â
And then in the next breath, when asked about pet animals, they say âIt is best for them to be humanely euthanized so they donât suffer. It doesnât hurt them, itâs just like going to sleep, except you never wake up.â
That was my example, but here is an actual source:
I was in Los Angeles for a speaking engagement when three PETA employees approached me. One employee explained to me that animals donât need to be suffering in order for him to be justified in killing them. He then explained that he has the right to round up and kill cats, even if they are not suffering, simply because he âbelievesâ they might suffer. In fact, he said that no matter the circumstances, killing is not unethicalâeven convenience killingâbecause it is just like being put under anesthesia for spay/neuter, with the only difference being that the animal never wakes up. [Link]
I have never heard anyone put an ARA to the wall about these extremely contradictory statements, and Iâve never had the opportunity to do so myself, but I would love to hear their explanation.
There is some consistency to this madness though, as they want to kill all dogs and other pets in order to end pets as one part of âanimal liberationâ. And they say we canât kill pigs, chickens and other industry animals⊠in order to end the industry, as another part of âanimal liberationâ. They are extremely hypocritical, but still consistent in their goal.
I guess youâre starting to see the hypocrisy of the AR. Killing is okay when they do it. All other forms of killing, not in the name of animal liberation, is murder. In their mind. [Link]
But itâs not just about killing.
Note the images I used in the beginning of the post. The left column is meant to display AW, while the right is to display AR.
The top images are Kevin Richardson in South Africa with a jaguar (he keeps and saves big cats, hyenas and other animals on vast landscapes in South Africa, and the AR sanctuaries hate his guts and say heâs âexploiting animalsâ, simply because he does not share their ideology), and a leopard at Tampaâs Big Cat Rescue, a well-known âscamtuaryâ that has said itâs better for cats like tigers to go extinct than be bred in zoos, that zoos are prisons that enslave animals, and that only they and similar scamtuaries should be allow to own these animals.
All while their animals live in an absolute dump and any zoo that looked anywhere near the state of BCR, would have been shut down a long time ago.
âItâs okay when we do it.â
The second row of photos shows a man hugging his circus elephants (close contact with elephants that are treated like kings, and loved literally like family members), and to the right, an elephant at âThe Elephant Sanctuaryâ in Tennessee. Note the mask of the person in the image. They need this because the scamtuary is infected with tuberculosis, which has already killed several of their elephants.
They donât believe in close contact, in training (which allows safe interactions for things like routine medical procedures and health checks), or in any kind of human-animal bond. The elephants live part-time in cramped, concrete cages, part time in freezing conditions outdoors, and they deny deaths, mutilation and disease occuring in their animals, all the while pretending to be the best facility in the country, believe they are the only ones who should be allowed to own elephants, and beg for money from an unsuspecting public (and only spend a tiny fraction of this money on the animals). [Link]
These are people who tink elephants should not be âexploitedâ, not live in âcaptivityâ, and certainly not in concrete and metal stables.
Again, âitâs okay when we do itâ.
The third row is more obvious. To AR, the right picture showing a pile of dead bodies, is preferable to the picture on the left, of a happy pet dog.
Animal welfare (AW) is not as hard to define and explain.
It says that we can use animals for our own ends, such as food (meat, dairy, eggs), clothing (fur, leather, fiber), health (research, service and support animals), and entertainment (circuses, zoos that are open to the public, and pets - yes, pets are for entertainment).
We can do it, but we have to do it ethically, and not cause the animals unnecessary suffering. You can kill an animal to feed your family, but you have to make sure it is killed swiftly and painlessly, and that its life until that point is free from fear, pain and suffering, and that it can exercise all of its natural behaviors, within reason.
(A bird needs to fly for example, but it does not need the entire sky. A pig needs to be able to dig, but it does not need to be in mud. A cat needs to be stimulated as the intelligent predator it is, but you donât need to let it hunt and kill other animals, in fact that would be anti-animal welfare for the prey animals.)
We also have âthe five freedoms of captivityâ, or as you could call it, the animalâs bill of rights. They were established in the late 1970s, and have been adopted by veterinarians, the World Health Organization, the RSPCA and ASPCA. They are, as follows:
Freedom from hunger or thirst by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour
Freedom from discomfort by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area
Freedom from pain, injury or disease by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment
Freedom to express (most) normal behavior by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animalâs own kind
Freedom from fear and distress by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering
That is animal welfare.
Now I want to get on to why exactly Iâm making this post. I am writing it because I have seen many proponents of AW shy away from and be hostile towards any advances in animal welfare, because they see it as encroaching AR.
For example, dog owners and breeders with breeds that are intentionally bred to increasingly deformed and sickly dogs that canât live full lives, because of this intentional breeding.
This is usually referred to as the German word âqualzuchtâ, meaning âtorture breedingâ. This refers to (the following is my own definition, written now, and not a quote):
Breeding for direct deformity which limits the animalâs life in things such as running, washing itself, mating, giving birth, even breathing and eating. Or, Inbreeding which causes genetic illnesses to spread rapidly through a population and severely decreases the quality and length of life in the affected animals.
I have seen many breeders and owners propagating qualzucht reject any single effort made to enhance the welfare of these dogs (such as demanding vet checks on shows, banning excessive deformity, or altering breed standards). Even if you lay it out completely for them, what you want to do and why, and they understand that they are breeding sickly animals, some of them will blatantly refuse and call you âanimal rights nutjobsâ.
Some of these people simply donât care, and want to keep their precious hobby and are as ideologically blind as any ARA or fundamentalist religious person. But the people Iâm aiming at now are those that do care, but they are reluctant to allow change because they think any change means âARAs who donât want us to own pets whatsoeverâ. [Link]
Another time, I was googling this documentary about horses. It is a film made by a woman and horse owner who explores alternative ways of dealing with horses. She discovers great problems in the world of riding, such as the common practice of yanking, kicking and whipping horses into submission.
The dog world has arrived at a very âpositiveâ and âfriendlyâ training perspective. In my mind this sometimes goes too far, when you think saying the word ânoâ is setting boundaries is abusive, it has gone too far, but itâs great that we no longer beat or yell at dogs.
Meanwhile, even teenage girls and young women in the horse world still kick, whip and basically abuse their horses into submission, and think that is simply what you do.
What this woman discovers is that even with gentle and compassionate riding, a bit is still uncomfortable to the horse, and riding them still hurts their backs. She then reconsiders the whole way she deals with her own horses, including giving up riding altogether. Iâm not saying this is my argument, but that is the film.
I was curious to see what the horse worldâs reaction was to this film, so I googled it.
Some people, intrigued like me, brought it up on forums only to be attacked by some aggressive (it is the internet, after all) people who had not watched the film and did not want to, declaring it âanimal rights propagandaâ. âThey donât want us to own horses at all!â (Paraphrasing)
I felt like facepalming when I read that, because not only had these people not even stopped to watch the film, so they completely misunderstood the message, they were now another example of animal owners standing in the way of animal welfare for fear of animal rights.
A common problem with the general public and your average meat-eating pet owner, is that they donât understand the difference between AR and AW, they donât understand the true goal of AR, and so they happily give money to PeTA or HSUS, thinking they are doing great work for animals.
But this other problem, the reason Iâm writing this, is this other side of animal owners who know about the true goal of AR, are rightly opposed to it, but refuse to allow any advances in animal welfare and increasing the quality of life for animals, because they think it is AR coming to take their animals away.
I have seen this in pro-AW, anti-AR organizations as well (not going to name them), and it is very frustrating when they cheer on what to me are incredibly inhumane practices, simply because they have to oppose AR.
Their opposition and even hate of AR goals is being put before what should be their goals and putting animal welfare and ethics first.
This needs to change. The entire modern world, if they care about the topic of animals at all, should know the difference between these two mindsets, where they find themselves, and how to tell one from the other.
No one is completely black or white. Itâs all a grayscale, and Iâm not suggesting all ARAs believe exactly what was explained earlier in this post, but it is the goal of the ideology overall. And sometimes I find myself agreeing with even the most radical AR organizations. Thatâs when people (usually from the AW side, like SeaWorld and AZA) say âLetâs work together where we agree!â
NO.
I canât begin to tell you how dangerous that is.
Look, I agree with even some of the most controversial things PeTA says. Iâm not proud of saying that, I just happen to believe some of the same things. But their end goal is completely antithetical to my end goal.
I want animals to live, I want conservation programs in zoos to keep going to save species from extinction, and I want to live my life surrounded by animals. They want to destroy all of that.
Not just PeTA, but any AR organization like HSUS, Born Free Foundation, One Green Planet, Greenpeace, Sea Shepherd, they all ultimately want to destroy that, in whole or in part (certainly they are all against zoos, the most important and least selfish of all forms of animal use).
Their perfect world is one where no human and animal ever touch or get near each other again, regardless of the pain, suffering or even extinction this causes the animals. They believe contact with humans is always bad, while suffering in nature is âjust nature, the circle of lifeâ.
My perfect world, and probably yours too, is one where humans and animals can live together as allies and friends, helping each other. Yes we eat them too, but we are capable of treating our prey animals far better than any non-human predator.
AW wants to eliminate suffering while still having animals. AR wants to eliminate animal use, and if the animals suffer immensely in order to reach that goal⊠then so be it.
These two viewpoints start at the same place, but are ultimately opposed and cannot be reconciled. I would love to work together, but when the goal of the AR is to destroy the world of the AW⊠this is like the ducks letting the fox into the hen house, hoping or not realizing the fox will eat them too.
