I finished my 1st quarter here nd i wanna die I failed Chem and I'm hoping to pass math. The only class i passed was Core with an A. If i fail both classes my gpa is going to be below a 1.5. What happens than? Will i be dismissed?
If things haven't changed... You get put on academic probation. You meet with an academic advisor and you create a "i promise to do better" plan. You pick classes together and promise to take said classes. Your advisor will also make suggestions on how to improve your GPA, like suggesting tutoring. They will map out your weekly study schedule (when you wake up, travel time, classes, hw/study time, etc).I don't know what happens if you don't improve after one quarter because when I got on AP I improved the next quarter.More info can be found in your "student handbook" (the long one no one really reads). I can google this and see if I can find the link.
Do any of the dorms come with private bathrooms?
I have no idea, but I'm going to say no.
hi, I was just wondering if you could tell me what your gpa/sat scores were when you got accepted? UCSC is my dream school!
i'm not proud of my SAT scores, but I will tell you my weighted GPA: 3.6 .. i think. LOL
Something to note is that UCSC is a lot more competitive to get into than it was when I applied. Good luck!
Is ucsc ever going to have a football team or football stadium anytime soon??
im going to say... no.
Accurate
THIS POST NEEDS TO BE ON A SHIRT
which you can then wear two days in a row
So I know Santa Cruz isn't big on sports, and the student spirit isn't all that great, but I'm just wondering if there are any parties? I'm an incoming freshman and the parties aren't my priority. I fell in love with santa cruz and its location but partying is, i believe, a big part of the whole college experience.. how are the parties? if any..
This really depends on who you're friends with. Like other colleges, parties do exist... off campus.I've gone to parties thrown by my friends and each one was very happening -- I attribute this to having a bar tender, music and lots of beer (and beer pong). I wasn't partying every weekend, but during my 3rd year I had roommates who went out EVERY weekend.. with the exception of finals week (party hard, study harder kind of thing). I can guarantee you there's a party happening somewhere every Friday/Saturday night.
if partying isn't your thing.. downtown also has several bars you can bar hop with friends (I did "The Crawl" on my 21st birthday).
what are your views on wearing college sweatshirts, t-shirts, etc.? is it annoying to upperclassmen? i'd rather not label myself as a freshie aha.
Wearing UCSC stuff is normal-- not just limited to 1st years. On occasion you'll see other collegiate wear. I can't remember if it was mostly 1st years that did wear other collegiate clothing. But I did have a friend rant to me about how said people were sporting around a school they probably didn't get into. On the the hand... some people wear it to support a team (Cal, USC, etc). I feel like there are other things that get you labelled as a "freshie" ... Mine was a very loud "ooh a deer!" on a bus.
So I'm an incoming freshman an I was wondering is it worth having a bike on campus? Pros and cons please😕
i've personally only biked on campus once. i'm sure i can find a post somewhere with more info. but here are some i can think of:
pros: fitness, beautiful scenery to enjoy while biking, bike paths, bike co-op, no need to wait for the buscons: hills, bus bike racks tend to fill...
anyone have any pros or cons?
Is it okay to wear SOME clothing during the naked run/first rain? For example like a pair of briefs or something? Or is that not allowed?
no point in wearing clothes. it's called the "naked run" for a reason. i do not support "nearly naked runners." i hope someone brings back the tradition of cutting off peoples clothes (underwear) who show up to the naked run.
Can a C ruin your chances of getting into ucsc?
no.
Did you ever find your love at UCSC?
I did not, but I did realize my love for someone while at UCSC thanks to friends who saw it and I just... didn't. (We're still together too)
How was it during your freshman year? Any advice for incoming freshies?
My story:My freshman year was 30-70. I didn't really get along with my roommate and I only made one friend in my entire dorm (whom eventually changed colleges. 8 to Porter). My roommate also ended up moving out and I had a super-single for 2 quarters to myself.
During Winter Quarter I got involved with student organizations which introduced me to student organizing, other organizations and friends (many of which I'm still friends with long after graduating).
The first organization I joined helped me come out of my "first year shell" as many upper classman were surprised I was only a first year (wise beyond my years maybe? haha). I also ended up joining 2 other orgs.My advice:Find something that makes you happy. I enjoyed student organization in high school so finding an org that matched my interests pretty much kept me in SC. If you can find that something I think you'll be set. Visit as many tables as possible during OPERS.At a UC where students spend the most (I believe) in student fees... use your campus resources! Tutoring, counseling, campus lounges, etc.
Also... If you THINK you want to do the Naked Run, I recommend doing this your first year because less people know you.
So does the naked run happens at Cowell too?
it typically runs through all all the colleges (though i'm not sure if this has changed since i left)
So the naked run is true?
yesssssss
sister and me reppin.
