Connect 2019
Last week's BC Provincial Government conference Connect 2019 revealed an inspiring future in technology. Alex Benay reminds us where we came from “50 years ago consumers paid $8000 for a home computer” to where we are going “Home 3D Food Printing - Teleportation and E-Citizenship” all this is happening right now.
AWS continues to write about the future of consumer shopping. Amazon Go provides seamless food shopping with payment after you leave the store eliminating checkouts and lines. Larry Keely's engaging speech taught us ten types of innovation and to build cool solutions, not just businesses.
Ben Kerr spoke of the strides BC Water have come in controlling the water flow from northern BC to Oil & Gas companies and municipalities. Open Source data and information was a consistent theme among the speakers and a reminder to not make data-driven decisions too complicated.
Open innovation labs are needed here in BC to drive new ideas to real solutions - #HackTheBase EDU IoT Hub. Mike Cardy - Red Hat Canada expresses their Open Source data & information as a massive benefit to the entire ecosystem in building the future while supporting the fact “culture eats strategy for breakfast”.
Finally, most great businesses are grown from Epic Fail, and these speakers were of great benefit to startups in the audience struggling to achieve their goals and having the will to carry on. Overall this was a jam-packed two days in beautiful Victoria, and we thank Innovate BC for the invitation to UCW Labs.
