24 Oct. 2020 our Prime Minister Narendra Modi launch the Girnar ropeway project at Junagadh online.
Girnar Ropeway – Unique features:
This project began in the year 2007 and has taken more than a decade to complete. This is considered to be one of the biggest projects in entire Asia. You can realize the spread of this ropeway from the fact that the ropeway is approximately 2300 feet long. There is hardly any other ropeway in world which stands close to this length.
Similar magnificence can be gazed when you know about the height of this ropeway. Yes, the ropeway has been constructed on a cliff which is 3300 feet above the ground level. For its amazing height, it is also known as “Udan Khatola” as makes you feel as if you are travelling in air.
Ropeway stands on nine pillars wherein the pillars have been erected 800 meters away from each other. But the travel between 5th and 6th pillar is the most adventurous and breathtaking because you are hung over a 1500 feet deep moat.
Engineers faced a lot of challenges while constructing the Girnar Ropeway. They say this is the toughest terrain to work on and among the many challenging tasks, shifting material from down to up has been the toughest one.
Girnar Ropeway – Capacity and Potential:
The design capacity of this ropeway is to carry up to 1000 people an hour, from the bottom to top and back. But initially, it is proposed that 800 people will be commuted in it. One trolley of the ropeway can accommodate 8 people. In the trial phase of 45 days, the engineers tested the ropeway capacity with around 450 kg.
Earlier, the travellers had to travel 6 to 7 hours in reaching Ambaji from the Girnar Talati. Can you imagine that the Girnar Ropeway has cut this travel time to just 10 minutes? Amazing isn’t that? But that’s true! What’s more, the listed “Udan Khatola” can travel even when the wind is blowing at a speed of 80 kms per hour.
A creation of Udan Khatola:
Udan Khatola stands out in terms of being the oldest and largest ropeway brand. Udan Khatola has constructed numerous ropeways among which many are renowned – from Maa Mansa Devi to Haridwar. The company operates as high as eight ropeways in the country.
Conclusion:
Prime Minister’s “dream come true” project Girnar Ropeway has opened up many prospects in travel, tourism and for small businesses. Successful completion and operation of this ropeway will be a turning point in the tourism industry and reshape the reputation of not only Gujarat, but also India.
