What if the reason humans are deathworlders is because of the way our neural systems work? Not in the sense that we're smarter, but because we think faster, because our brains work through a combination of electrical and chemical signals. What if all the other worlds evolved with only chemical signals? Same or greater level of intelligence, just very slow processing. No alien wants to get in a fight with a human, because even if they are many times stronger than us, they're incapable of hitting us cause our reaction time is just incomprehensible. They make sure to have at least one human on ship because if things go catastrophically wrong we can come up with a possible solution before they even finish processing the problem. They are reluctant to use human tech cause they assume it'll only work if you have human reaction times.
