also, a lot of the death animation sprites weren't implement and i'll probably show those at some point, just not right now
Some Lava Chef: You're Cooked! thoughts n things + Giorgio-species
our little man is called Giorgio! there is also now an entire species named after him. we love him very much and he is our collective son - a lot of our games after feature references to this guy!
he was even going to feature in Floramino as a customer, but the customer icons were shelved for a future update
i ended up drawing some more Giorgios while taking a break from the jam (and most of my duties were completed). the gist of the Giorgio-species is that the species itself is called Giorgio, and baby Giorgios are called Giorgiolings - they're often with thick eyebrows and a cute blush!
some Giorgio-species versions of the team exist too, we're not cool enough for the thick eyebrows
i drew the ingredient concept designs in magma, so the entire team could add ideas/see the designs. we came up with some of the food concepts together but it's Luxille, our programmer/writer/music person, who concreted the the final names, descriptions etc of each ingredient
lavacado is also what we took as our team name!
also, one of the main reason this game exists is because i really, really wanted to draw food so shoutout to the team for letting me go wild lol
Lava Chef: You're Cooked! is a little game made by Studio Lavacado in 48 hours for Micro Jam 013. The theme was lava and the prerequisite was time is limited.
Compete in the the world-class cooking contest SuperChef International as a little chef. In under 30 seconds, gather unique ingredients and cook hometown delicacies to impress the judges!
Received 1st place in presentation, and 6th place overall!
i'll write a more structured blog post another time, but for now some random Floramino thoughts - my role in Studio Lavacado is usually character design, spritework and UI, so this is about those!
most of the flowers look the same from concept to final sprites which is usually how ~48 hour game jams go. the most difficult part was trying to turn a flower into tetramino shapes - the hardest flowers were the 1x2 and L shaped ones
the only flower to get a 'major' change was the 2x2, the team thought it looked like the weeds and yea they're right </3
it's quite obvious for the 2x2 flower, but while the growing state sprites are probably... not that accurate... the grown flowers are all based on real flowers! 1x1 is a daisy, 1x2 is a rhododendron, L shape is forget-me-nots and 2x2 is hydrangeas - i forgot what the 1x3 is based on, i'll come back to that...
at one point i considered vegetables (i just like vegetables) or fruits, inspired by Stardew Valley, but we ultimately went with flowers
originally there was going to be a cute lil bee character! her name is louise (affectionately referred to as bee-louise by the team) it's not a lavacado game without a little guy, but we didn't manage to get this one in... we'd like to in a future update (there were also going to be bee customers, hence the different bee types)
the bunny-cat looking fella is Giorgio (or a Giorgio-species), the player character from Lava Chef! You're Cooked
i've actually drawn the rough concept for her sprites already
i usually turn my little guy sprites into emotes for the server, but since we didn't have one this time i just used the weed... there is cool-bee! who isn't in the game, but we just liked em
i can't speak much on the programming since i do the art but i do want it to be known i accidentally messed something up for our programmers because i was trying to import something into unity, it was small but it did happen. i am our biggest enemy

will be posting the rest of our games in the near future (knowing me probably in a few days lol) but hopefully! i actually work on my own solo things soon
