I keep misreading kpop group One Us as One of Us
dc comic headquarters trying to run now that they don’t have rco and can’t remember what happened in their own comics
its already begun…
Oh it's read comics online
I thought they have readers corporate office or something kinda like game beta tester that pay attention to lore
Joke they don't even give them character sheets
The writers buy past books themselves and the artists google that's how we got helena bertinelli going black and white like michael jackson song
Bruh I went back to N52 Nightwing because it was so forgettable that I literally only retained the Court of Owls stuff and-
I don’t know why I didn’t say this before. What the fuck is this hair???
Bootleg 2009 Anthony Padilla from Smosh??? AM I FUCKING TRIPPING????
More 2010 Zac Efron
The funniest part of clearing the older Batman/Detective Comics stuff is realizing how much of Dick and Bruce’s modern Dickbin relationship is retcon.
Like where is the constant aggressive fighting and lack of cohesion??? My brothers are openly talking about how empty their lives are without each other. You could not find two people more content and cohesive as partners.
I blame Marv.
In this case I don't. I blame Denny O'Neil
Marv Wolfman upped their tendency to disagree about things yes, but one felt it was more of a slow build over a couple of years as Dick spent more time away from Bruce and especially with the New Teen Titans, developing his leadership role in the run up to Dick giving up being Robin, not because he hated or resented Bruce (if it had the decision would be easy), but because he'd outgrown it and Bruce eventually realises this and is proud of Dick for not only seeking his own path, but giving his old role to Jason. That was a natural, organic maturation that you could see both sides off but ends with the two of the acting like respectful grown ups.
It was O'Neil who, along with Max Allan Collins approved the introduction of Jason Todd 2.0 and the incredible angry angst fest which was the dissolution of the Dick/Bruce relationship. Bruce became an unreasonable control freak who demanded that 18 year old Robin toe the line at all times and became even more of a control freak when Dick was injured by the Joker (despite having been hurt many times in his younger career)
Consider.
Can I blame Dan Didio?
Starting 2003
The vampire arc was not what I expected, even if the set up was predictable at parts. It is… resoundingly uncomfortable, particularly with the sexual manipulation and other undertones. Which I suppose it is meant to be. Still, I’m impressed by how uncomfortable I was.
Dala, the to-be-revealed vampire, is a creep off the jump. The way Dick starts pining for her and the intensity of it begins strange and becomes repulsive on reflection, given that it was entirely driven by supernatural compulsion.
Like yeah, no shit no one has affected you this way before. (Don’t worry though, it won’t be the last :D)
We’re told about her kind much later on, but they’re not vampires, I think. They’re vampiri, with the distinction being that it was a curse wrought upon the patient zero, and later his sister, a few hundred years ago via a snake. This is done on account of them being The Worst. And they really try, in every way possible, to cram the very notion of taboo into these folk.
But like, okay, jumping ahead, we get to the part where Dick is eventually lured out and attacked. And it just… really really rubs me the wrong way.
The fact that it’s partially a hallucination, meaning Dick’s perspective is not reliable, the sexual undertones of turning someone, even the “come to my waiting arms… don’t you love me, Dick?”
Maybe I’m reaching here, and I don’t like to reach in this manner, but… come on. This was assault.
Then we cut to black and Dick wakes up elsewhere. The rest of it maintains the gross edge despite becoming more of a standard vampire romp. Dick finds himself aided by a priest and realizes he’s messed up six ways to Sunday
but very soon after falls so deeply under control that it doesn’t really matter.
And, Jesus, the vibes. I hate her I hate her I hate her ughhhh
Bruce gets lured out, he gets bitten too, it’s a whole bit of shenanigans trying to get the cure for them, whatever. Again, while the vibes are maintained and there are probably more subtle elements you could glean from these later events, they’re much more your standard supernatural affair.
I just can’t get over how in pain Dick looks. Like he has been so damn miserable and it sucks.
I just came away from this feeling really really bad for him, lol. This entire experience from start to finish was stark. And, of course, as all Dick-related losses of autonomy demand, we get back to our regularly scheduled programming with little fanfare after. They’re just fine and that’s that. No comment on Dala.
What I’m interested in is how this might’ve impacted Dick’s experience with being romantically and sexually manipulated by Raven later in NTT, because reading this drew a lot of parallels to that in my humble opinion. The inexplicable and often uncomfortable romantic urges he felt, the hallucination (or, in Raven’s case, dream) sequences with implicit or explicit sexual involvement, what have you. I dunno.
Anyways: ughfghghghghgghgh. The depravity that vampires are typically meant to represent in media was very well captured here. I hate it. Great job unironically.
So the original monk and dala are actual vampires, the bronze age are cursed, and the post crisis version are cultists because they're doing the batman year one gritty realism thing, before finally dc vs vampires made them vampires again

Omg yes I cannot begin to explain how uncomfortable these issues managed to make me!
Especially these two pages from Batman #349 (1940)
The bad vibes I swear, it always made me so uncomfortable
I swear, Dala has to be a metaphor for sexual grooming, and at one point she just flat out stated that she was promised him sexually.
Like????? What else are we supposed to take away from this?? The double entendre was almost certainty intentional. She made him feel special ("I don't usually go out with younger men, but I think in your case, Dick Grayson, I shall make an exception"), showered him with love and affection, manipulated him, isolated him, and took advantage of him physically. That's sexual grooming 101, and a damn good metaphor for it too, imo.
This. And it's surprising how not many people talk about her???
But well it is old issues, not everyone read those probably...
Still, I forgot that phrase😭 It just gets worse and worse the more you read.
Also about your tag "Dick Grayson and his never ending list of times he's been SA'd" I genuinely made a list on that, it's kinda stretched here and there with the inclusion of gray areas such as kisses on the cheeks, but gods if it's way too long. And someone recently even added another thing, like why does it keep on getting longer?!?
Modern readers only know this story from a callback and joke in DC vs Vampires
thinking about that panel where nightwing comes in and sees someone's mother(?) and they're like "oh, you're a flying grayson!"

Appreciation for Pre-Crisis, Robin-era Dickbats, please? He’s so scary and so small.
Look at him, scaring the absolute shit out of people. Making them stutter. Silent and damning.
“I’ll- why are you looking at me that way?
“B-Batman!”
And then he takes off the suit and he’s-
Baby. He’s a little dweeb in there. He has to wear platformers and a muscle suit and he literally deflates when it’s over. My little dweeb son.
You think he kept that muscle suit for later instances of Dickbats in Prodigal and post-Final Crisis? Because he is an adult here, technically. He couldn’t have grown much more. He probably still needs it.
For the most part no coz Gordon and his men noticed he was smaller and they do draw him smaller
Except Tony Daniel
That said when Dick had to be Batman while Bruce was Matches meaning they had to stand side by side they pulled out the XXL muscle suit
i need someone to sedate me

explain lore of your favorite fandom to me please
oh doll. that might take a bit. but I'll do my current hyperfixation, THE BATFAMILY.
now imma be honest this hyperfixation is at most two weeks old so forgive me if I'm wrong.
starts with Batman, I guess, typical backstory, parents shot in an alley when he was 8, yadda yadda. When b-man was in his twenties (don't know specific age) he rescued and adopted a nine year old Dick Grayson, youngest of a circus acrobat family called the flying graysons. stunt went wrong, Dick's parents were killed, yadda yadda. Dick gets the name robin and fights alongside batsy until he gets injured and quits/gets fired. Bruce then adopts a street urchin named Jason Todd who was trying to steal his tires. Dick becomes NIghtwing, Jason becomes robin and proceeds to get killed by the joker with a crowbar at 14 or somthin, rip. Rich-kid-turned-stalker Tim Drake realizes theres an opening and forces his way in (Idk shit about him) Somthin happens to Jason and he goes to the League of assassins where he finds..batman's son?? tf?? Damian al ghul, a trained assassin and prince is apparently the son of Bruce Wayne. Eventually, Jason brings him to Gotham, becomes rogue crime lord Red Hood and abandons dami at Wayne manor. Dames becomes robin, Tim becomes red Robin, Jason is a criminal now and hates batsy-boy and Dick is still gotham's ass.
somewhere in there is Cassandra Cain (Orphan? Black Cat? IDFK), Stephanie Brown (Spoiler is her vigilante name) and Duke (SIGNAL that's right mb) but I unfortunately don't know shit about them. Oh yeah and barbara Gordon who was Batgirl, got shot and paralyzed, and became Oracle (whom I am deeply afraid of)
Batman was about 27-28 depending on when was everyone's birthday and Dick was 10, some version did have him as 8
Originally Jason was killed around 13-14 but soft reboot aged him up to 15
Jason meeting Damian in League of Assassins only happened in popular cartoon Young Justice
They never met in the comics until after Damian became Robin
Jason bringing Damian to the manor is someone's fanfic, in the cartoon they only appeared together for one scene cameo
People already corrected the others but I will add
Duke met Bruce when he was 10 during a rebooted timeline where they squeezed 4 robins 1 batgirl and batman into a 6 years backstory
Duke was the earliest one meeting Bruce but still 16 when he became Robin, one of the newer generation
After the backstory is restored to its original length which is 20 years, Duke's age remains the same (currently he's around 18)
The event that leads up to the Duke meeting Bruce is still canon as The Riddler's backstory, but whether Duke still met Bruce or not is in question since he wouldn't be born yet
