thinking about jason and dick being two sides of the same coin. they’re so different but still so similar they drive me insane
dick is a performer at heart. he’s acted in front of a crowd for as long as he can remember and he’s never learned how to stop. he’s inauthentic to everyone including himself. there are parts of him that’ve been closed off for so long they’re unreachable until something triggers the flood gates open. he plays pretend with vulnerability by telling people little things about himself that don’t really matter. he’s wearing a mask not even he can see past. he is a supernova of emotion and guilt, he doesn’t mean to explode but everyone will get caught in the crossfire. willing martyr. he will spend the rest of his life absolving his shame even when others forgive him. he will never be good enough and will spend the rest of his life trying anyway. he is a mantra of what have i done.
jason is an open wound. he’s brutally honest, with his heart always on his sleeve, and no matter how many layers he tries to hide it with, the only heart beat people can hear is one he’s no longer marching to. he’s so open with his emotions that he doesn’t realize what he’s doing as a result. living reaction personified. all of his traumas have been turned into folklore for everyone to see and judge. unwilling martyr. he’s the living ghost that never stops being mourned. he believes all the bad things people say about him until he’s lying to himself. he isolates and makes himself seem worse than he actually is because if no one gets to close then no one sees who he is. if they saw who he is they wouldn’t believe it anyway. he’s supposed to be one thing and that is the failure. he will never be good enough and he’ll make sure everyone knows it. he is a mantra of what have you done to me.
