Seo Yul didn't choose to save So-i bcoz he's fallen for her, he choose to save her bcoz of the same reason why he was planning to kill Naksu. Responsible and Duty.
Why Jang Uk and Naksu are perfect for each other and how the love triangle with Seo Yul only reinforces that:
Let’s start with a quick character analysis, shall we?
First we have Yul, the model student, the one who’s memorized all the rules by heart and follows them to the letter.
While he was in love with Naksu (or rather, the memory of her) his first instinct when he met her again in S1 was to doubt and suspect her.
As you can see here (EP 12 S1) he, very subtly, tells Uk they should get rid of Naksu since she’s now a soul shifter, and a dangerous one at that. She’s the shadow assassin, after all.
And let’s be real, he never trusted her completely. Why would his first thought after she ran wild be “this could have been avoided if I’d reported her” otherwhise? He trusted Uk, but not Naksu.
This can be seen in the latest episode, EP 6. He may love her, but he still believes getting rid of her is better for everyone. Even though she herself doesn’t know who she is. Even though she is harmless. His choice is still the same: to follow the rules, eliminate the thread, and maintain peace.
On the other hand we have Uk: the underdog. Underestimated, undermined and cast aside his whole life. He doesn’t follow the rules, but rather his heart. How could he believe in a system that deemed him worthless? He doesn’t owe anyone shit, because no one ever gave him a chance, none ever cared enough, until Naksu.
This is Uk’s answer to Yul’s “Naksu is dangerous”. He doesn’t condemn her, doesn’t judge her, doesn’t let prejudice win over what he knows about her. Never has. Because he’s been there. Because he’s been called useless, a silly nobleman who wasted his time and others’s, a man who would amount for nothing. Until Naksu gave him the chance no one ever gave him before.
Naksu stabbed Uk. She killed him. And yet the moment he woke up, he was sure none of that was her fault, that Jin Mu was the mastermind somehow. Hell, even when he was dying in her arms he reached for her and interlaced their fingers in an “I love you” gesture. He NEVER doubter her, even while she drove a sword through his heart.
God, and look at this. He doesn’t give a damn about anything else, for him it’s all about her because she’s the one who gave him back the wings his father cut and his previous masters kept locked up.
Also, something the king said on EP 4 is very telling.
People love to talk about Naksu, love to gossip about her, but not a single one of them knows her. No one knows anything about her. Except Uk.
Uk, who looked beyond the assassin’s facade and saw the affection-starved girl. The girl who often bought honey biscuits for him, the girl who made a certain type of noodles because she knew he liked them.
He saw the girl who was worth protecting, even dying for, while everyone else saw the girl that must be killed, the threat.
Episode 6 showed how different of a hero Jang Uk and Seo Yul are. Uk would set the world on fire if that meant he could save the person he loves. If he had to choose between Naksu and everyone else, he would choose Naksu. Meanwhile Yul would kill the person he loves to save the rest of the world. He would choose the world over Naksu, although the first time he had to make the choice, he followed his heart just like Uk. What makes Yul even more complex character is the fact that yes, this time he would kill Naksu to save the world, but he would also die with her as he wouldn't be able to bear the pain of being the one who took her life. No matter who you prefer with Naksu, you must admit that both pairings are deliciously painful and so well developed.
deliciously painful hehe this, idk maybe it's just me but I kinda like that he turned into someone like that, maybe she's causing him too much pain bcoz of regret (bcoz he couldn't do anything to stop or help her when they were younger) and guilt (he felt like responsible for everything she have done) so he wanted to kill her but also die with her bcoz he can't live without her or abandoned her
Hong sisters really wasted the episode 1 Naksu, that character is probably the most iconic character I've seen in k-drama fantasy. I love AOS and all but the potential of Naksu, shadow assassin?! As Villain?! I kinda hope AOS's plot is something like animes.
I'm pretty sure there's so many writers out there who wanted the character Naksu in their story.
So far happening in part 2, I've come to realize what's behind of all these moments in part 1
Jin Ho Gyeong basing her daughter to whoever blind girl could open the Jinyowon door and ignoring her mother instincts
Seo Yul refering to Mudeok a monster that the world needs to be protected from
IT’S FRIDAY. WE’RE ALMOST THERE.
FACT: Uk is insanely sexually attracted to his new-wife. PROOF: 👇🏼
When all’s done and dusted, his crazy Yeong will either praise him for having “great taste” or will torture him for “how dare you get turned-on by a stunning woman whom you thought wasn’t me”. He’ll either be in heaven or he’ll be getting his ass whipped. There’s no middle ground with her. 😂😂
i always think he's attracted to her 😭
let's go my dear husband
and if I say that Go Younjung and Lee Jaewook have the best chemistry out of all k-drama couples this year?
ALCHEMY OF SOULS: LIGHT AND SHADOW
I love how tall Naksu is in her OG body, she's big. I love these details they put in her character haha
Naksu is the most iconic and unforgettable k-drama character name for me
Mudeok's personality and behaviour in part 1 is all due to Naksu's life/experience as an assassin, all her knowledge, techniques, mannerisms, and skills that she taught and show in the story came from her past self, Naksu. That's why her assassin life gives unique and complex side of her character. But her personality, behaviour, wittiness, boldness are still there minus the spice of assassin mindset, trauma, Jin Mu influence and manipulations. She has strong motivation of being assassin bcoz of the tragedy with her family, she genuinely believe she is Jin Bu Yeon and believes to whatever Jin Ho-gyeong tells her like when she was a little kid following and believing Jin Mu.
She's not the kind of person who would just sit there and do nothing, that's why she trained herself and become the strongest and powerful assassin without being trained by Jin Mu. She also tried to escape Jinyowon and never stopped until she's finally out of that hell. When she met Jang Uk, he showed her something which she's not aware she have been looking for.

Little Cho Yeong
Once upon a time, a bright-eyed young child (a daddy’s little girl) — barely 4 years old — was left to live alone in the wild mountains.
At first, she often lost her way in the forest — from a food or a water source back to her tiny hut. No one searched for her, fretted about her, or drew a hot bath for her upon return.
She did not have any guardian angels watching over her either. No one whose heart swelled with worry or who instinctively reached out to steady her when she fell from a tree or stumbled upon a rock or got bit by wild ants/bees.
In cold, snowy winters, the little girl often starved as she struggled to find sufficient food.
Bears and other wild beasts dwelled in the mountain forests around her. She once encountered a bear in a cave and lived to tell the tale as a bedtime story to Uk who then curled up into her warmth and slipped into sleep.
On nights when she felt lost or missed her father too much, the stars in the sky that her father recorded appeared on earth like fireflies or so she thought.
With sheer will & determination, she illuminated her own (cold, dark, lonely) path and survived. Life had not given her any other choice but to overcome fear and be strong/resilient.
But now, that little girl is no longer alone. This time around she will be loved, protected, cherished, and completely & utterly doted upon.
This is not only (baby wife-big husband energy) peak romance but much much more. It is absolutely cathartic to watch her being taken care of every step of the way. My heart breaks & breaks whenever I think of all the injustice metted out to her.
