Some bad news

Hi, everyone,

I have some news about my life... No one school have accepted me into the graduate program in physics. I have applied to three PhD programs in physics: at Emory University, University of Illinois and Washington University in St. Louis. At Illinois admission committee even do not accepted my transcript explaining this with the fact that translation into English is “not certified or literal”. So, formally my application was in two institutions. Everyone rejected me.

If it is interesting for somebody I can share me scores on a tests and profile. In fact I had GPA: 3.4 (out of 4); GRE V: 130/170, Q: 148/170, Reasoning: 2/6; GRE Physics 500/990 (you probably think I am a donkey :)); weak LORs. Thus, I had really pure chances to be suggested a position.

So, it is actually the fourth discard in my life from educational establishment after reluctance to award me a scholarship in Ecole Polytechnique in Paris and DAAD scholarship last year. But less with this stuff. I feeling miserable as I have one more discard. Approximately a week ago I participated in a selection to the Java programming courses, which was organized by EPAM company. I failed it too. Several days ago I received one more rejection.

I hope the further news would be more pleasurable.

So... about machine learning...

As I promised that I'll talk a little about my new delight machine learning. Guys, it is a really complicated thing... it is packed with a plenty of modern math (under modern math I understand statistics, probability, describe math and other...). So it is really not easy. But we are purposeful people... And we go to the end. I'll engage in this unprecedentially interesting field of computer science!

The first think that must be clarified is that one, who wants study machine learning (I mean deeply study and invent new algorithms, which is the most interesting part in machine learning) surely have to do it with advisor and in the academic environment. It is much stuff to be learned. And for more it is mostly boring academic things (math, theory of algorithms). It is rather difficult to do on you own. 

So, unfortunately the first think to do is to enroll some degree program in CS. It is better if you are young and you go to the B.Sc program, but if you specialize in sciences of electrical engineering and so on, it is possible to enroll into some master program.

Passion to computer science

Recently I realized that I have a great passion for programming, coding and computer science in general. At the senior school i chose physics career. More precisely, enrolling into the physics department of the best university of Ukraine is not seemed very difficult. So decision was done, I become undergraduate. Unfortunately studying was not easy for me. Constant misunderstandings on lectures and seminars, boring tasks, no commitment.

This was followed by a row of unsuccessful applications for master degree at European university, and US PhD programs. I don't know why I was rejected... Maybe because of my low GPA or maybe because of absence of any imposing scientific work, or may be because of miserable test scores... maybe all together :)

In any case, all causes have their reasons! So now I realize, that a human have to chose what he like to do, what he passionate of. And only under this condition he could succeed.

For me, I now understanding that my passion for computer, coding and software design (my greatest hobby since school) is the thing I prefer to do. I'd like to produce the stuff which humanity need.

So I found some facets of CS rather interesting for me... And it is artificial intelligence in general, and Machine Learning in particular.

So, the future post will be a review of machine learning :)

Where is the science now?

The biggest question that appears in front of young scientist, when he/she decides what branch or chapter of science to be chosen. As the decision would directly influence on success of the career of this person, it is actually a very important question. Thereby, let's think a little about it and highlight the actual topics, that I think would become significant in the closest future.

So, on my personal opinion we are on the verge of new discoveries in biology. Particularly we probably will see a sequence of important discoveries in ways of treating sever diseases. I hope, that soon it become possible to cure diseases, which based on DNA inheritance. It is now possible to grow several kinks of tissues by dint to stall sells manipulations. The Technological review magazine is now repeatedly issues the notes in biomedicine (brain diseases, ect.).

The everyday improvements in computer capacities makes it possible to process the large amount of data, what is necessary in a nowadays challenges. And now, the researchers all around the world involved in compounding informatics, biology and physics into one. Everybody have no doubt, that researchers will soon succeed in solving a number of complex problems, which are now still exist.

Obvious, that future discoveries would be based on computer technologies. Health control, due to the data, collected with sensors, on our devices is a close future. Many companies are now actively develop ways to profit from new technologies. So, we can talk about the era of improvements in everything, connected with big data technologies and biology. Its only my personal opinion, based on my own experience. Everybody could have own  point of view. I am waiting to discuss this, is anyone wants.

I have finally started my blog

I will post here my personal essays about every day topics. About my life, technologies and my native country Ukraine. I hope, this blog will help me to find solutions of technological development of this beautiful place. I wish this page become a place, when everybody could share own ideas in order to improve Ukraine.

Ukraine is a fabulous land. People have already chosen their future. The most of Ukrainians are pro-Europe orientated. And this means that they choose democracy, supremacy of low and free press. People of Ukraine looks deep. They are not foolish.

Now, Ukraine starts to build new country. We want to grow economically. We steel have plenty of problems. But soon, they all be eliminated. I establish this blog with a great hopes.
