-First of all, please tell us your feelings when you first heard about your solo debut.
KV: When I heard about it from our manager, I was really surprised!! I didn’t know I would be the next one to make a solo debut after Soohyun. As it is my first solo activity, I thought a lot about what kind of music and what kind of image I can show you.
-What was your members’ reaction when your solo debut was confirmed? If there are any behind-the-scenes stories, please tell us about it as well.
KV: As expected, the members were startled when they first heard about it. Moreover, they were also very surprised about my collaboration with K, especially Soohyun, who threw a tantrum asking why it’s so different from the time he made his solo debut (laughs).
-As the Kevin who made solo debut, which part (of you) do you want the fans to pay attention to the most? And is there anything you’d like to challenge yourself to in the future?
KV: As this is my first solo promotion, I’m nervous in any case, but through this promotion, I would like to show you all of my charms. As always, I’ve put in great efforts preparing for it, so please give me lots of support. Also, I will be singing the solo song(s) at U-KISS’ Japan Tour in July, so please look forward to it!!
-What is the biggest difference between solo activity and group activity?
KV: Needless to say, the most different part is the nervousness/tension on stage and that my reliable members won’t be there, and (the situation) backstage is also different. For group promotions, the members and many staffs are there so I was always surrounded by lots of people, but for solo activities I think the atmosphere would be a bit quieter.
・Even though you are determined to end this irreparably broken relationship, deep inside you still have feelings for her… The feeling of the guy pretending to be strong can be perceived, but please tell us the actual meaning/thought behind the lyrics.
KV: Since this song is for my solo (debut), I wanted to show you the “manly” Kevin. But I heard that in actual fact, most men tend to get sentimentally attached and couldn’t forget (their past lovers), so I thought it’d be nice if I could express both feelings.
・The catchy and sexy-feeling sound (of the song) is impressive. Please tell us if there are any parts that you worked especially hard on during recording.
KV: Although it took about 2~3 days to record both songs, it was finished smoothly. Recording as a group and recording alone was indeed completely different; it was very hard. When recording as a group, I only need to sing my own part, but for solo songs, it was me alone from the beginning to the end, so I had to put in my emotion throughout the song. Also, I personally think that when I record songs with the group, I’m usually the one who takes longer to record my own part, so for solo songs, it took even longer to record. I was concerned about my expression of emotions and the Japanese pronunciation.
・Please tell us any behind-the-scenes stories during MV filming, or any parts that you wish the fans to focus on.
KV: There are two Kevins in “Make Me” music video. One is “White Kevin” and the other is “Dark Kevin”. The “White Kevin” sings the ad-lib parts and is a little sentimental, while the “Dark Kevin” is wild and rough. The concept of the MV is simple, but the background effect and colors that match the music is fancy so it’s fun to watch. There is no choreography yet, so I think the fans can focus more on my expressions (laughs).
-About “Out of my life feat.K”
・Kevin and K’s harmony is very beautiful, and the combination was so amazing that we wouldn’t think it was your first collaboration. Please do tell us your feeling after you actually collaborated with him.
KV: The artist who U-KISS members like and respect a lot is K, so I was really glad that I can collaborate with him. K has written songs for U-KISS before, and I’ve wanted to meet him someday. Now we not only finally met, but he even wrote the lyrics and composed songs (for my solo single), so I’m really happy.
・Please tell us any behind-the-scenes stories during MV filming, or any parts that you wish the fans to focus on.
KV: It was around the second time we met after the song recording, so we talked about how we spent our time and our recent situation. While filming the MV, K actually played the piano live, and during break time we practiced the harmony, and sing our favorite songs together. Every moment (we spent together) was an honor for me.
・I’d like to bring back the topic about your collaboration with K. As a Korean artist and big senior promoting in Japan, has he given you any advice?
KV: Firstly, he helped me relaxed my mood when we were recording, so I could sing very comfortably. Also, about the impressive words (he said), when I was singing the ad-lib in the song, K asked me to “sing it with Michael Jackson style”. I was able to pull off that feeling with the first try, and K complimented me, “You’re leaning ability is really fast!” so I was really happy.

KV: Thank you very much for always supporting me. Also, I think there are many people who know about me for the first time, so please do check out my solo debut single. U-KISS have a lot of really nice songs too, so if happen to know the group because of me it would be awesome. There will be a lot of individual and U-KISS’ activities in Japan this summer, so I’d be very happy if we can meet each other somewhere!!
Q.01 Please tell us the artists who influenced you musically so far! (from Hanae)
A.01 I really like Bruno Mars’ songs. I want to become an artist like Bruno Mars.
Q.02 Kevin’s voice is crystal clear and very beautiful. Do you do anything special to take care of your voice? (from Makimaki)
A.02 I don’t do any special vocal care, but as a habit I always drink a lot of water and sleep a lot to keep my throat healthy. Especially before recording or live performances, I would take more care of it than usual.
Q.03 Kevin not only has a beautiful face, but your style is very pretty too. Are there anything you are careful of regarding to your diet or health care? (from Chikako)
A.03 Thank you ^^ I avoid eating midnight snacks at late night. Moreover, I usually don’t eat foods that are said to be bad for your health, and if I have time I like to go exercise and sweat a lot. Of course, I dance a lot as well, so gaining more weight will actually be hard for me.
Q.04 If you have a vacation, which places or countries do you want to go? (from Yukie)
A.04 If I can take a vacation I would certainly go to San Francisco, U.S.A, and I want to meet with my relatives and friends who I cannot meet very often.
Q.05 Kevin who has a perfect command of English, Korean and Japanese, what language to you dream in? (from Sayaka & Kebirate)
A.05 My dreams are definitely in English. Maybe it’s because English is the first language (I leaned) so it can’t be helped?
Q.06 I’m planning to travel around Korea. If you have any recommended attractions, please tell me! (from Yupimaru)
A.06 Personally I would like to recommend Samcheong-dong. It has many Korean traditional streets, cafes, and restaurants etc. and it’s very beautiful. Also, please go and visit the Bukchon Hanok Village which is right next to it as well.
Q.07 I thought that the gap/contrast in Kevin’s personalities is very attractive and I like it a lot. What kind of gap/difference of girls do you find attractive? (from Fumina)
A.07 If I see a girl who is usually easy to get along with but is very serious and full of passion while working, I might be attracted.
Q.08 Why don’t Kevin wear sleeveless shirts during encores at live events? I wish you can wear it sometimes (laughs) (from Haruharu)
A.08 Since I have a complex about my arms and legs being thin, I avoid wearing sleeveless shirts as much as possible. Besides, the other members are muscular, and when they stand next to me I’d be compared with them so I don’t really wear it (cries).If the fans like it, should I workout even more and try to wear it?
Q.09 You’ve done many different hairstyles and hair colors according to the different concepts. What kind of hairstyle and hair color is your favorite? Please tell us about it. (from Sachiko umma)
A.09 The color I like right now is my recent black hair. Of course I like light hair colors as well, but I had light colors for a long time so I think black hair looks fresh and manlier.
Q.10 If you can become a U-KISS member for one day, who would you want to be and what would you want to do? (from Nanamo)
A.10 I want to become Hoon and rip my shirt at concerts (laughs).
Q.11 If Kevin became a KISSme fangirl for just one day, which ukiss member’s fan would you be, and what do you want him to do for you? (from Ako)
A.11 I want to become Jun’s fan and have him do kabe-don and then confess to me.
