    If you told him a few years ago that he would one day be the Commander of a massive ship, Humanity’s front lines of defense, Shiro would’ve laughed. The   IGF Atlas,   first of it’s kind in Earth’s history, being a part of the Universe rather than an   untouched   outlier. He was proud. Proud to be it’s Commander and proud to be protecting Earth with it. 

    “  Commander Shirogane ?  ”   His attention was drawn to a young cadet, single stripe, fresh into the academy. A smile formed on his face seeing this. Humanity had just gone through what was it’s first   near extinction   and yet,... they were already ready to fight. Seeing such a young face giving their all to protect the people they loved was something he’d never get sick of seeing. “ You asked to be alerted   IMMEDIATELY   when the head of Voltron awakened, Sir. ”

    “  He’s up ? ”  The Cadet nodded, still in their salute.  “ Yes, Commander. ”  Shiro couldn’t spare much more than a thank you as he motioned past the Cadet. His feet picked up speed under him as he trekked the path to the Garrison’s Medical wing.   He couldn’t get there fast enough,   his arms pumping, heart racing along with him just to get there. He was awake. Only deemed stable thirty eight hours ago. HE WAS FINALLY AWAKE. 

    Takashi’s hand caught him on the edge of a corner, slowing him down just enough to help him stop. His breath was slightly labored and his steps slowed to a speedy walk as he made his way towards Keith’s recovery room door. His heart was  still pounding  when he stood before the door and he was recognized as an authorized visitor by the Garrison’s security protocol. The door came open with a hiss and his eyes caught a mop of disheveled hair made even messier by white gauze.    —  Breath caught in his throat now, his eyes stung something awful with stubborn tears at the sight.  Shiro’s smile was   automatic,   heart slowly settling as relief washed over him, “  Keith.  ”

   He knew something was wrong the second after he said it. Keith’s expression twisted into something reminiscent of everything bitter. His voice so low, Shiro strained to hear him. He doesn’t know if Keith can tell but his voice is broken and Shiro doesn’t know what to make of it. His heart is skipping beats,   PANIC   rising and fear knitting his brows together. 

   Keith is moving away from him  and it makes his breath catch in his throat. To go and do this in such a vague roundabout way, what was he thinking? Somehow, Shiro had managed to put himself in such a confusing predicament. He’d just confessed his love for Keith and done everything   in his power to make sure Keith understood that but of course... Takashi was never very well versed in romance or relationships. 

   A terrible pain replaced the bloom of his fluttering heartbeat, was Keith rejecting him? Was this his way of saying this was all too much? Had he said the wrong thing... scared him away? Did Keith even know... who Shiro was talking about?

   The way Keith shrinks from him, the crackling in his voice, the expression on his face... It’s eating away at him and Shiro feels he might   FALL TO HIS KNEES.   He feels like he should apologize, say something,  anything.   Keith is slipping away from him and he can’t let it be like this. Takashi can’t let him leave looking like that, sounding like that. Whatever he said, whatever was causing it, he wanted to make it vanish, as if it had never happened if it was hurting Keith this much. 

   Shiro reaches out, fingers wrapping around Keith’s wrist.  “ Wait- Keith! ”  His heart is pounding for a  completely  different reason now. “ Did —... ” (did I do something wrong ?) He swallows the lump in his throat.  “  Are you okay?  ” 

   He wants to make those troubled lines disappear. Take back what he said and replace it with the words Keith   needed   to hear.  This was everything Shiro had feared in telling the other man how he felt, even if it wasn’t exactly direct.   THE WORST CASE SCENARIO.   Keith was running away from him and that was the  last  thing he wanted. If he had known... If he had just... 

   “ I’m-... I’m sorry, was that too much? ” It was high school all over again, foot in his mouth and every other word too stiff.   “ That was too much information, I know. I just- ”   I really like you.    “ You’ve always been there for me... y-you mean a lot to me, and I figured now was as good a time as any to tell you. ”

    Shiro’s entire disposition   softened   with Keith’s touch. Out of character for him,  indeed,  Shiro didn’t think he would have ever seen Keith like this in his life. His hand slid slowly until it barely caressed his bicep. Keith really didn’t believe he had a chance with this guy... “ This must be   SOME   guy, huh? ” He asked, not really wanting an answer. 

   The look on Keith’s face, the look that this mystery man had put there in the short span of their conversation...  said it all.   It caused Shiro’s entire being to swell up with multiple emotions just to deflate all at the same time. This man could make him so happy and yet —   Keith didn’t think he could ever tell him. Shiro had never known Keith to be anything but forward in how he feels... at least with a few key emotions.

   Maybe,... maybe these were the ones he didn’t like to show. Shiro wondered if he was afraid of the answer he’d get if he told the truth. If maybe, by some  divine mishap,   this man didn’t want Keith... — he understood that fear. 

   It was all too relatable and Shiro realized that there was only so much he could do for Keith. Support him, cheer him on, but   ULTIMATELY   it would be up to him. Despite the constricting feeling he felt in his heart and the green envy building within him at the thought of Keith with someone else, what Shiro wanted, was for him to be   HAPPY. 

   He watched Keith’s fingers trace over his palm and found it to be the one thing keeping him composed. “ Keith I —... ” What should he say? What  could  he say that he hasn’t already? His eyes followed those fingers that grazed gently over his skin before pulling Keith’s hand into his. Shiro brought it to his chest and held it there, gaze finally moving to meet Keith’s. Having that hand so close to his heart made him feel vulnerable, the pounding of his chest must have not been very subtle but he  NEEDED  Keith to see him. An open book like this with nothing to hide.

   “ Maybe I should take your advice... maybe I should tell him that- ” Nothing would rip his gaze from Keith’s at this point. “ He’s my rock. ” If he was moving closer to the shorter man, he had no way of knowing. “ He’s the only thing that keeps me going sometimes and just the fact that he’s there with me is  enough.  I don’t need anything else, just him. ” The soft caress on Keith’s bicep turned into a grip and he hoped it wasn’t too tight. “ He’s everything to me. ” There was a pause, “ I should tell him... I should tell him  I love him, Keith. ”

I like to believe that Shiro is actually kinda shy when it comes to people he likes. I HC Shiro as a (kinda) shy disaster gay.

I am so, sooooo salty about this fandoms reaction to Allurance moments and Adam’s death. I AM SO FUCKING SALTY.

Lemme explain. 

ALLURANCE

I’ve heard the argument that Allurance is encouraging “ No means yes if you are persistent enough”. IT. IS. NOT. PERIOD. 

In the beginning of Lance and Allura’s interactions, Lance’s behavior was disrespectful. He didn’t have respect for Allura as a teammate and a friend. He simply saw her as another girl he could flirt with. Which led him to hit on her all the time. HE WAS REJECTED EVERY SINGLE TIME. 

As time progressed we watched him grow and change. He got closer with the Paladins and with Allura becoming a Paladin herself, he was able to connect with her a little more. This started too change his view of her. Less of a gorl with bobbies and more a teammate he could depend on. He started to acknowledge her other qualities besides how pretty she is. And when Lotor came around he REALLY sat there and reflected on himself.

After all his revelations, Lance no longer hit on Allura, he hasn’t hit on the Princess in a while. He respects her, her decisions, and sees her for the incredible person she really is. NOW, now that he has changed his behavior, now that he’s treating Allura with the respect she deserves, now she is starting to see him in a new light. 

VLD did not reward Lance’s behavior. It suffocated it until he learned from his mistakes and drank his respect wamen juice. 

ADAM

The VLD cast and Crew is receiving a lot of hate regarding Adam’s death. They’ve said that VLD is using the “bury your gays” trope and that it’s queer baiting. I HAVE, MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS. As someone who roleplays Shiro and loves Shiro to death- here goes.

Adam has around 3 minutes of screentime in all 7 seasons of Voltron. He is a minuscule side character. We know nothing about him besides that he is Shiro’s ex boyfriend, he’s a pilot in the Garrison, and he broke up with Shiro. We don’t know his likes, dislikes, how he behaves, if he’s a goof or more serious, his values, morals, ethic, etc. NOTHING. We know next to nothing about the man. And yet, people LATCHED onto him, understandably so, being an LGBT character I suppose. But I have a sneaking suspicion it was mostly K/L shippers because they deluded themselves into thinking Adam and Shiro were still a thing or that they were going to get back together.  

 I have a hard time believing anyone really got BEYOND emotionally attached to a character that was on screen for less than 5 minutes that we know nothing about JUST because they’re lgbt. 

My suspicions aside, People got attached to a minor side character and were sad when he died and then called queerbaiting and shit representation. Ladies and gentleman of the jury, I would like to point you to - EXHIBIT A.

TAKASHI MOTHERFUCKING SHIROGANE.

Our LGBT rep. The Gay man who has suffered the most in Voltron Legendary Defender. An invisible illness eating away at his muscles. Kidnapped by hostile Aliens. Forced to fight for his life in an Arena as entertainment for others. Tortured, The trauma of having his arm removed for a cybernetic one he never truly connected with. Suffers from PTSD. Pulled into a war and involuntarily made the leader of the front lines to said war (no matter how prepared he was to be leader he was still GIVEN the role of leader.). Has died once. Spent what probably felt like eternity in an astral plane trying to not lose his mind. Almost didn’t make it in the new body. Lost a loved one. 

All of this and Takashi still finds the strength to stand up and fight. He refuses to give up. He stands tall and says “ I’m not going anywhere.” No matter how hard he is hit. He is strong and noble. He is kind and nurturing. Despite what he could’ve been from his outward appearance, he is a big softie. He shows boys they can be kind, they can give each other compliments, they can have close bonds and friendships, they can show affection, and still be masculine. 

Takashi is proof that being Gay is such a small part of who you are as a whole and your sexuality doesn’t make you any different from the person next to you, it doesn’t make you any less or any more. Because YOU, are more than just a sexuality. 

He’s been through a lot yet he stands tall and proud. This is your LGBT representation. An Asian, amputee, mentally ill Gay man. This is the man of the hour. And he is the best LGBT rep I have seen in a while or EVER really. 

So when we have this amazing man, representing us and I see people harassing VA’s, yelling queerbaiting because Adam is dead... (Even though being single doesn’t make Shiro any less Gay.)

Adam, a man in the line of duty to protect Earth during a war in it’s most volatile moments... is dead. 

I just can’t believe this fandom sometimes. I really can’t and it’s why I’ve disappeared from my Lance blog. Lance is far too much attached to this kind of discourse. I am just so tired and seeing LGBT people working hard to bring us LGBT representation and YOU SHIT HEAD 15 YEARS OLDS ON TUNGLR.HELLSITE.COM  AND TWITTER.COM/DRINKBLEACHB4SCROLL SHITTING ON IT BECAUSE IT’S NOT EXACTLY HOW YOU WANTED IT OR BECAUSE IT’S NOT YOUR SHIP.. i just... implode dude. 

I love Shiro. You should learn to love him too.
