It’s funny because before, memes about Putin weren’t really in any way damaging to him. Like most people making those memes and finding them funny were mostly already aware of his abuses of power, and if anything memes were a silly little expression of that.
But by banning them, Putin has made memes intrinsically powerful. Putin has made memes a force to be reckoned with. Putin has weaponized memes.
Because of Putin’s ban, by posting this
I’m now technically engaging in an act of political aggression and opposition.
And I think that’s beautiful.
This episode changed a generation.
