@undead-knick-knack
HE!! SHOULD! BE!!! AT! THE! CLUB!!!
It was a small moment, but for all his bluster about how Thimble was making her own choices, and he didn't care, and everything else he said, Julien was the one who kept watch for Thimble by the door the entire time the party was at Hal's waiting for her.
We're going hunting... and it's bastard season
I know "only Julien can fix Julien" but I think if he had a 6ft tall wife who could grow to 9ft tall and summon an ax at will it would encourage him to fix himself faster
Travis Willingham. Critical Role: Campaign 2, Episode 33 (2018) // Domenichino. Saint John the Evangelist (1620s)
As much as I love Azune and Thjazi's complicated relationship I do want to point out- Thjazi did not have enough information about the escape for him breaking or not breaking the glyph to have ever been a reflection about how he felt about sacrificing Azune.
No one in the rescue attempt (except maybe Thimble who was supposed to be able to sneak the glyph onto Thjazi) had any contact with Thjazi after his arrest. He didn't know what the plan was. He didn't expect Azune to be the Marhsall assigned to him, and while he did say 'Anyone but you' and that could have been in regard to Azune sacrificing his life for him literally, it could also be referring to the fact that if Azune was going to be escaping with him it would be the end of his metaphorical life in Dol Makjar (Azune's second and possibly longest home). It could have also been to help maintain cover since enough people knew Thjazi had brought Azune to the city that Filoneus was able to find it out.
Thaisha and Thimble, who were both involved in planning the escape certainly doesn't seem to have expected that Azune would possibly die as a result of neither having asked for, nor planned for himself, a way out.
There's very little reason for Thjazi, who was so tricky Kattigan checked his dead body with magic in case his death was a ruse, to assume Azune didn't have some escape plan.
There is a very sad element in that none of these people who did care about Azune asked or confirmed what the details of his escape would be in the the rush to free Thjazi, but that's different to the idea that any of them (including Thjazi) planned- or even accepted a need- to sacrifice him specifically in the attempt outside of the standard risks of that type of operation.
Luis Carazo as Azune Nayar in Critical Role: Campaign 4, Episode 19 "Hand & Wheel" (2026) // Mater Dolorosa, ascribed to Pedro Roldán (c. 1670/75)
Wick ducking into an alley to have a panic attack after getting overwhelmed by his lies and deceptions to his family and the other Sundered Houses only to run into Azune who is also having a panic attack after getting overwhelmed with his immense lies and deceptions to the Sundered Houses and his other responsibilities.
"How was the Calamity finale?"
The Calamity finale:
Bonuses:
For what moments these are:
Lou — "[Brennan:] Zerxus, you pull the true heart of the Lord of the Hells into Exandria."
Marisha — "[Brennan:] This will be our final roll of this campaign."
Luis — Sam begins to describe Loquatius cycling through the faces of those he wronged or failed as he loses consciousness.
Sam — Marisha rolls two 10s on her Counterspell against Power Word Kill.
Aabria — "[Aabria:] Is this a spell effect?" // "[Travis:] No, this is physics."
Travis — "[Elias:] I don't know why I didn't send it. I don't know why I didn't—" // [Zerxus:] You don't need to explain yourself. I know why, and it's okay."
Bonuses:
Aabria — "[Luis:] I pull him." // "[Aabria:] Does the Time Stop stop?"
Marisha — "[Asmodeus:] Let's get ourselves cleaned up."
Luis — "[Cerrit:] I love the both of you so much. So much."
Oh my fucking god, Thaisha fucking Lloy. Wreathed in storm, surrounded by her people, priestess of her city, telling this foreign false faith to fuck right off before they get hurt. Oh my god.
Like, the difference between the Thaisha of the ritual, the gentle shepherdess guiding lost souls through grief and joy to freedom, and then this Thaisha Lloy, stone cold, stone faced, just flatly daring anyone to touch what is hers. No explanations, no nothing. Just flat, this is the way it is because I say so. Do we have a problem?
I am getting Delenn of the Minbari flashbacks, because Thaisha Lloy just made a whole combat just go away. Tail between their legs.
There's all these Magpies in the background with their crossbows, Vaelus, Azune, Hal, Murray, half of damned Dol Makjar ready to have a fucking go, and none of it is needed.
Just Thaisha. Just a Lloy. Casually ready to stand her ground.
Hot damn.
Do we have a problem? It's been a very long day, and the weather's turning.
Azune & Thaisha, Overture to Convergence
Aranessa is about to learn a whole bunch of things in sequence.
Your husband did not follow the old path to get reincarnated because the Tachonis tried to enslave his soul (oh no!)
But it didn't work and he escaped (phew)
Yeah he's basically Julien's shadow now (what?)
Just lucky Julien spat on his body at the funeral (WHAT?)
Meanwhile Maya:
Your son has retrieved the item that will save your daughter's life (deep relief)
But he did it by ignoring everything else you said about not going into dangerous places to murder Tachonises (that little...)
Also he's cursed now (i TOLD him)
But not because of the Tachonis (what?)
But basically because of a breach of etiquette (THAT LITTLE...)
I beg for more Azune and Shadia interactions, they basically grew up together, same house and everything, and they give me the vibe of older sister that WILL drag you into things in the middle of the night, "PUT YOUR BOOTS ON WE'RE GOING TO THE BAR" "Shadia it's literally three am"
My love of the tragic paladin trope grows. Eursulon, Kaladin, Absolute Wonder Woman, and now Azune ❤️
