Stayne sat outside of the Mamoreal sharpening his sword. The only sounds keeping him company was the sound of the stone scraping along the edge of the blade. His horse grazed nearby. Close enough if needed but far enough to allow Stayne some distance.

Things were changing too fast for his liking. Painfully aware he might have to make some difficult choices very soon. Having been newly appointed to the position of Captain of the Red Queen’s Guard. Such a position had been an honor, he had been told.

An honor he would have to give up his left eye for, apparently. An honor he would have to face disfigurement for.

So wrapped up in his thoughts was he that he failed to notice he had company.
