Yanno what legitimately chokes me up about shoutoko/tokoshouji/whatever spelling you use? It's the dynamic of Tokoyami, who seems to have struggled for a very long time with an incredibly strong power that feeds off of his temper, and Shouji, the guy who has seen him at his worst and didn't even fucking flinch. Wouldn't run, wouldn’t retreat, wouldn’t even go to get someone that could help because he saw past the rage and the power to see through to his friend. His friend who was in pain and trying his best and who needed him, despite said friend legit trying to attack him. And then after, Shouji was calmly looking him in the eye and basically saying 'I know you. I am not afraid. I trust you.'

It's two people, each who think that they are monstrous and not worthy or valid because of it, but each recognizing the worth and humanity in the other.

Like... GOD DAMN that is just. That is such a good ship dynamic. Especially when you also have the fact that Shouji is perpetually throwing himself in the way of danger and is self sacrificial to a legitimate fault, to the point of concealing himself so that he isn’t a bother. This compared to the guy who has really embraced what he likes and what he looks like and the perception that he gives off. And who values his friends to the point where he legitimately can't handle it, how much would that mean to someone who values everyone else above himself?
