My apologies for not updating everyone sooner; i really did think I'd be able to get the update done... I won't go into details, but needless to say life had other plans and it's been a rough week mental health-wise as a result.
I'm hanging in there, but I'm not entirely sure when I'll be able to focus on drawing again. I don't want to make any promises i can't keep, so i don't think i can give a definitive date for the next page of Unexpected Guests this time... i really wish i could. I want it to be sooner rather than later, but later is better than never and that might be how it has to go.
so uh. In the meantime, i'm gonna try and take better care of myself, and i hope you all do too.
Oh I didn't know you were into Pokémon! Have you played Pokopia yet? It's similar to animal crossing and you get to play as a ditto :)
haha, oh yeah--it's the first video game series i was really into! I played it consistently from gens 3-6, then kinda lost interest, but recently had the chance to play sword and violet and have enjoyed them both. I knew toby had done a song for sword/shield, but only found out last night how much of the music in scarlet/violet had his little paws in it too, lol. To the surpise of (probably) no one, i mostly like dragon-types :>
I haven't played pokopia--i know people have had a lot of fun with it, but i don't know that it's my kind of game actually?? I never played any of the animal crossing games, and tbh their gameplay hasn't piqued my interest ^^;; i never got into the sims or anything either... I'm an action/adventure/puzzle rpg kinda pal, i like exploring fantasical worlds without heavy combat :>
I'm cautiously looking forward to the next mainline pokemon games--even if the latest ones have been flawed, it's not really detracted much from the basic fun of catching your favorites and raising them to be the best they can be ^^
well, do you guys think you can wait until friday for the update? it took until this week to finally nail down the page layouts, and i've also been distracted by cosplay research because i have a convention coming up in 3 weeks and didn't feel like working on costuming at all until maybe a month ago :"D
so the update needs a bit more time to cook, but i have it thumbnailed and the panels are sketched, so it should go quickly as long as i can stay focused on it =_=
That said, because i have a convention coming up and want to get as much of my Sans cosplay spruced up as i can, i plan on taking a short break from working on updates until after the con. I'll be sure to share pics of my refreshed cosplay, and maybe some others as well :>
phew. the convention was a lot of fun! but, it knocked me out for basically a week--cons can be draining as a baseline, but i consider myself an introvert and being "on" all weekend, even if you're having a really good time with your friends, can do a number on you. all i've wanted to do in my free time since is play pokemon; it's taken until basically today to start feeling normal again @-@;;
but, because i'm feeling better, i've been able to start sketching the next page of Unexpected Guests, and I also hope to finally sort through the pics i got of my cosplay so I can share them--it's mostly the same, but the new mask I made for Sans turned out really, really good and I want you guys to see :3
anyway, that's all for now, but i wanted to let folks know how things are going :>

Not that i've ever gotten many, but submissions are turned off for now, and i recommend others do the same

well, it's not really a timeline/universe thing; it's more just reflecting the different medium the story is being told with. If he were in a film/video format, he'd use the cuts between different shots or objects/people passing in front of the camera to shortcut.
I see it as part of keeping Sans in-character. I don't think he knows he's in a video game (or a comic), but he's keenly aware of how his world is structured and uses it to his advantage. He's learned where the seams are so he can slip between them. This should be true no matter what medium is used to tell the story he's in--and in a comic, the seams are the gaps between the panels :>
So, text based stories focused on him should work like a Choose Your Own Adventure book, maybe?
they could! it depends on how ambitious the author is feeling, heheh.
Writing's a little different from visual media--it's harder to do weird meta things that remain comprehensible to the average reader. But it's easy enough to write lines like "Sans rounded the corner ahead, and Frisk ran to catch up with him--but the road ahead was empty. How had he left so quickly?" or "Sans opened the door from Grillby's into his room" or even "You glance away for a moment, only to find Sans' chair empty when you look back. You enjoy an instant of utter confusion before he taps you on the shoulder" that i think preserve how his shortcuts feel without using any meta formatting or anything. Each scenario offers some kind of transition point that becomes what Sans uses for his shortcut.
There's certainly more ways you could play with it--a literary version of his 'special attack' being a string of blank pages is one i just thought of. People smarter than me could probably think of even more ways to get silly with it. But, at least in text-based media, i think you can get away with being a little less meta >.>

I play flight rising (dragon collecting game), and this year's april fools event was every dragon you own getting one out of hundreds of possible silly "awards" and somehow. somehow.
the full binary string says "dragon secrets". i don't think there's a better option possible

I just realized i forgot to put the date for the next part of the comic, so that's fixed now; however, there's a small? ish? chance it'll either be short or I'll have to take a bit more time to make it...
This weekend, I'll be busy attending an event, and while I have the next three sub-pages thumbnailed, they're thumbnailed because they're complicated, and might need more refinement than usual.
if that turns out to be the case, i'll let you guys know :>

urgh. was unable to lock in
i did make some progress; the page is all sketched and ready to be inked, but... idk if there's something i'm subconsciously unhappy about with it or what but. focus did not happen X_X
