My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.
Shoutout to people in the notes also mentioning people learning the language, I should've mentioned that really, given that I've been stuck reading German picture books myself while learning German.
Oh yeah here's another place from my work place
It's stairs that no one uses
The feeling you have evoked is their use
you were almost turned into a vampire, but before you could be fully turned, the vampire was staked. This left you with a vampire weakness, while still being human.
Spin the wheel to find out your weakness!
How much does this effect you?
Nothing changes
It's inconvenient but I can deal with jty
It will be hard to adjust but I'll figure it out
I don't know if I'll be able to live like this
Maybe I can find another vampire to finish the turning?
I might just kill myself

thanks @theemmjay for submitting this poll idea!! Seriously it's such a cool concept I love it so much
Are they like..... Yknow.... [Goes to do a hand gesture but forgets I'm a wizard and I accidentally cast Lv50 lightning bolt]
sometimes i wonder about the girl who used to be the stepmother. because obviously the trolls need to steal someone’s skin to become human. so that means she was someone once. i wonder who she was. who were her friends? what was her role in the village? did she have a family? how did she wind up being the person the stepmother chose? was she even from the village? if so, did anyone notice the change in her personality from original woman to stepmother? was there a change at all?
i wonder about her. i have so many questions

so that post possessed me to download pocket frogs again and I was going through the sets of frogs to collect, and… is that Unus Annus in my Pocket Frogs?
playing other games but still seeing homestuck no matter what i do
[image description: image of an Aardvark with grey, yellow and white in the background. Text says “Parents say they just want you to be happy and get married” at the top and “Oxymoron” at the bottom.]
Here’s an old aro meme from 2011, which was before the rise of the “Ace Discourse” around 2015 (which may have started out as backlash in response to The Trevor Project deciding to include asexual people around that time). This meme format uses an aardvark to represent aromantic people. At the time, axolotls were often used in similar memes to represent asexuals, so the aromantic aardvark was chosen as the aromantic equivalent of the asexual axolotl. Aardvarks were considered to be somewhat of a mascot for the aromantic community for some time, though they have become less popular as a symbol in recent years.
This reads like a museum guide showing one of the most prestigious pieces in an exhibit
it’s so exhausting how even the baby steps that we start to take every so often towards changing attitudes about women not wearing makeup, not shaving, not going through multi step grooming routines are still shrouded in language about Hotness. if your statement that women shouldn’t be obligated to wear makeup is “and you can still be hot without makeup!” then just fuck off like you’re not helping. “well i like when a woman doesn’t shave i personally think that’s hotter” so you’re still defining what is acceptable for women to do based on whether or not it passes your acceptable standard for hotness. we need to loudly and sternly condemn the way that every facet of a woman’s life will be described as either “hot” or “not hot” even when the conversation is supposedly progressive. maybe i don’t give a fuck about being hot. maybe i want to be comfortable or content or energized. this seeps into everyyyy habit or behavior or choice a woman makes. a woman cannot just go for a walk to move her body and feel grounded, it still has to be described as a “hot girl walk” online. we can’t read for enjoyment or knowledge, it has to be described as “hot girl book club” like it’s exhausting. you’re not doing me any favors by assuring me that i’m still hot. i don’t want my life to be a constant endeavor for hotness.
really specific trope i like that i feel like can only be explained in a diagram
AND THEY VERY MUCH ARE OUT TO GET HER OH MY GOD

it’s really cool seeing a (at least in my mind) larger YouTuber who is out and proud about being aro but *not* ace :]. It took me way too long to realize I was arospec because I’d only ever seen aroace or ace but not aro representation.
(Also can’t wait for you to eventually cover sun and moon! your analysis are a highlight of my doomscrolling)
Yeah we're sort of a rare breed in terms of visibility, probably at least in part because even after I've made videos about being aromantic and NOT ace, people will still post very nice comments about how I'm "their favourite aroace creator" or recommend me to other people as an example of "ace people discussing sex and sexuality" lol
Moderately frustrating, not gonna lie, but c'est la vie, c'est internet.
rating the ways my family members have referred to me to other people since coming out as nonbinary
my secondborn (my parents)
7/10
sounds vaguely historical but in the way that I'm going to be sent off to war to prevent a succession crisis
potentially confusing to the listener bc the average conversation has little relation to birth order
my sister's, [name] (my aunt)
9/10
direct and to the point!
still very clear about what our family relationship is. I think we can do away with many nouns if this is any indication
my young adult child (my mom)
4/10
it's giving "20 year old minor"
I promise you can just say my kid. it's ok I don't mind strangers thinking I'm like 5 bc that would make me a prodigy for doing stuff like my laundry and dishes in one day and honestly I could use that kind of support
my liberated one (my grandma)
10/10 THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT
completely unclear what my relationship actually is to her. her personal oracle perhaps?
made immensely funnier by her immediately following it up with referring to my brother as her grandson.
