When a war comes rushing to the front steps of her homeland, leaving nothing but ash and corpses, Jo, and her compatriots find themselves struggling to make their way in a world pushed to the brink.
Wrought with tension, Auchlan and Harlan as nations persist in a state of conflict, doing nothing to dull the flames of war that have smoldered for nearly a century. As plagues spread and fields lay empty, this senseless conflict threatens to boil over into an even more senseless slaughter.
In Eastknoll, a small village situated far from Auchlan, the war has thankfully stayed far from its borders. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Harlan government, taxing its villagers for more than they can provide.
A simple nobody with a hard head and strong arm, Jo finds herself rushing towards the middle of the decades-long turmoil and the heart of the entire continent's fate.

Lead a scrappy group of rebels as they cleave through the bindings of fate in this papercraft-inspired SRPG.
Speed as a stat in SRPGs is frequently a “you must be this fast to be viable” requirement that ends up being very restrictive. Rather than use an all-or-nothing threshold, Unfated has a wide spectrum of outcomes on follow-up attacks. Units only slightly faster than their target may strike again at reduced strength, while fast units can take full advantage of their speed and potentially even strike a third time!
The large casts in SRPG games can often swell in number, far beyond what can actually be used in any particular chapter of the game. Camp Training allows these excess units to passively gain some experience and provides the player with the opportunity to spend resources to maximize their units' potential. In this way, Camp Training creates many strategic possibilities for units that would otherwise end up just warming the player’s bench.
Unfated’s campaign will include many chapters that require our heroes to fight two battles simultaneously, leaving it up to the player to decide who is needed where. This is where those units that have been in Camp Training can really shine, as the player will need to strategically divide their forces to handle the challenges Unfated has in store for them.

As answered by one of our team members: Crow, Wolt, Artur, and a character named Ronain who will make a cameo in the jam map. In that order.
Unfated: Our Characters
Hello everyone! Now that we've finished revealing all the characters we'll be showing off over on our Bluesky, it's time for Tumblr to get caught up. Below the cut you can see our five protagonists and our deuteragonist. These are the same blurbs you can find on our Kickstarter page, which will officially release in about a week along with our map for ActualLizard's Map Design Game Jam, which you can find info about here!
All bios are presented as images for consistency with the Kickstarter page, but will have their text below for our friends who use screen readers and any others who might need a plaintext version.
Hotheaded and quick to act, Jo has a passion that burns as hot as the noon sun and holds her convictions as certain as the dawn's glow each morning. Her drive often lands Jo in trouble, and her bullheaded stubbornness frequently leaves her lacking anything that could be called tact. In this age of crisis, however, these traits might just make her exactly the kind of leader this world needs.
A quiet, skittish boy adopted first by the local clergy, and then by Jo and Aubrey. Frightening visions of possible futures haunt him, and the results of his often drastic efforts to prevent these terrible premonitions have been a major source of scorn and strife in his life. Despite the weight of his “gift” and all the hardship he has endured, he still seeks to return even the kindness he has received tenfold.
A huntress with the soft-but-hardy disposition of a dandelion, complete with the same need to scatter to the wind to survive. She feels a pang of envy when looking upon her friends, who have been able to set down roots in Eastknoll—but, out of love for them, she squishes that ugly feeling into the deepest recesses of her heart.
Miles’s stoney exterior matches the iron core within. An immigrant from Auchland, Jo’s unrelenting insistence of friendship chipped into that rough exterior and dragged him grumpily into the fold of friendship. He went off to the army to prove and improve himself (despite Crow’s warnings to the futility of it all), but when faced with the ultimate choice, he finds that not even his hardened heart can choose duty over family.
A bitter veteran of the never ending conflict between Harlan and Auchlan, this shady town drunk was pestered by Jo into sharing his knowledge of both combat and potent insults. Thrust back into conflict, Crow reluctantly plays the role of mentor even as he complains about the kids’ pure-hearted willingness to sprint into danger, but the fact that he stays by their side regardless belies some amount of care… Probably.
Artur M. Corvell is the Crown Prince of Auchlan, but more importantly, he is the center of a great prophecy. He is The Hero, the chosen champion of the Holy Dragon and eventual slayer of the Shadow Dragon. Raised from birth under this prophecy, Artur has become a hero down to his very core. His faith in himself and his cause are unshakeable… though a chance encounter with a hard-headed hot-blooded peasant woman may yet change everything.
Thank you for reading! We'll have more to show you very soon.
Is this blog dead?
While not dead, it is in a period of dormancy until we have a bit more to show off. We'll be releasing some posts about the Kickstarter in short order and going from there-- hopefully that answers your question!
