In a modern AU, I picture 8 growing all kinds of stuff in jars. First, he liked plants, but then he decided he wanted to grow mold. The smell in his room is terrible. He also got a birdeater by talking 35 into buying it for him and he actually got his way!
8 took care of Goliath really seriously. Along with mice, the kid bought the right food, good dirt, and all that. Everyone else in the house either finds the spider gross, annoying, or just doesn't care, as long as it doesn't escape.
But one day, Web didn't close the lid right, and Goliath got out. At first, 8 looked for him on his own, checking every corner of his room where the spider could hide. But he wasn't there, so the boy started looking in other parts of the house. He wanted to check the adults' bedroom, but he was absolutely not allowed in there. So 8 searched the second-floor hallway and then went down to the living room on the first floor. Once he told the others what happened, everyone in the house started looking for Goliath.
Worried about his favorite pet, 8 stole 35's phone and opened the school parent chat. The clones and Zandik had made up a story that 35 was the dad of 8 and 18. So the kid guessed the password and wrote to the parents.
'Good evening, everyone. Our spider Goliath (in the photo) escaped from our house. If you see him in your yard or house, please DO NOT kill him, he is very expensive. He is not friendly, he can bite hard (his fangs are 3 cm), and he has itchy hairs on his belly that will make you itch for a week. Don't go near him. Just take a picture and send the location to this chat. We will come get him. Thanks for understanding.'
35 scolded him for this stunt, but the chat was already in a panic because a lot of the parents in there were also their neighbors.
They found the spider two hours later. He hadn't gone to the neighbors. The big fluffy guy had crawled into the first-floor bathroom and was sitting quietly inside the washing machine. He was drawn to the warm, damp feel of Omega's(35) freshly washed medical scrubs.
