“ You’ve earned my respect… tenfold.”
BIG episode 126 spoilers because i've got a LOT of thoughts
chip and jay not believing in destiny and primarily acting for self preservation in the beginning and now coming to accept the burden of a leviathan simply because they love their friend so much and they know how important this is to him. gillion, who was raised to follow an unwavering path, carrying the world's heaviest burden on his shoulders, alone, simply because it's the right thing to do, finally being allowed to choose for himself if he accepts the leviathan's destiny rather than it just being forced onto him, and finally being allowed to share the burden aurora, who is terrified of the idea of having to take on the burden of her entire island, constantly struggling and panicking whenever she has to make even the simplest of decisions, accepting this destiny, no matter what word she chooses to use for it, because in the short time she's been travelling with the riptide pirates, she's learned that she isn't as alone as she thought something something to be loved is to be changed. you know what i'm talking about.
+ also my thoughts on a couple of quotes from the episode (mostly fish and chips, because i'm predictable)
"it takes a really bright light to cast a shadow that long" (gillion to chip) oh my GODDd. one could argue that chip was born and raised in shadow. he was a thief for the majority of his life, killing to survive in reuben's gang, etc. he was originally the pinnacle of evil that gillion was taught to strike down. he even became an undead, something paladins are specifically trained to kill. but now after all this time gillion can see just how GOOD chip is at his core, even if chip doesn't see it himself. < genuinely started crying once he said this one btw "i'm a fish, but when you pulled me out of the sea, i was drowning" (gillion to chip) gillion being cast from his home made him feel like he was no longer welcome in the ocean he was raised to protect. chip gave him a home and a new purpose, with new people to protect. also, parallel to gillion saving chip from drowning during moonlight storm and sea. the fact that this is like the fifth time gill's mentioned this event shows just how IMPACTFUL it was, and how chip's small act of kindness brought him back from the brink. platonic or romantic, he loves this man so much "i feel like i'm watching the world fall apart" ... "we'll be there to pick up the pieces" (gillion and jay, respectively) excuse my pretentious metaphors but. gillion and jay definitely see themselves as broken. gillion, who failed to uphold his duty to the elders and the undersea, and jay, who failed the navy. something they were both raised for their entire lives. they have been deemed as defective by those who raised them- broken. but together, they're forming their own identities, picking up the pieces and coming back stronger. also. gillion being the champion of the undersea and chip being the champion of death. the ocean is so full of color and millions of creatures, one could say that gillion is also in part the champion of life. we got parallels baby anyways smash subscribe like and comment for more epic riptide analysis like this one

"searching for a world that doesn't exist" filled the gaping, disgusting, festering hole in my heart that the dream smp left
man i don't even have any jokes to make about that episode. what the hell
had the WORST day at work and was on my way home when a ten year old ran up to me, challenged me to a battle, and proceeded to wipe my entire party with a level 94 Charizard and take my wallet. now I can't afford the bus fare home. I hate Kanto
