First fittings of the pantaloon trousers. I had heard rumours of the notorious garment being rather restrictive on some movements ... they were true. I will compromise a bit om the tight fit in order to be able to pick up lost items... 🤣🤣🤣

A Rear Admiral in Malta, by unknown
He is wearing an undressed coat of 1795- 1812 with epaulettes, cocked hat, gloves, dirk, an umbrella and hessian boots
Interesting to observe both the English and the Danish Royal Navy use the short version of the hessians
(Danish uniform regulations by January 1802, dress uniform as the boots have gold tassels)
Project Naval Officer 1807: Once in a while the god of chaos throws me an opportunity to get creative in the interpretation of a historical uniform. It turns out, that I have very free rein for the outerwear during the period.
Excerpt from an article in Archiv for Søvæsnet 1839 (presumably written by the later Vice Admiral Steen Andersen Bille) (found in E. Borg's "Den Danske Marines Uniformer Gennem Tre Århundreder")
"In our uniform regulations we completely lack a regular overcoat. Everyone wears what he wants. You see blue and gray jackets, with long and short collars, some have Kalmuks and other fabrics' coats with horn or cloth buttons. One goes with long coat with anchor buttons and epaulettes, others have the same kind of coats, alternating with one or two rows of buttons "
You can almost hear the rolling eyes of the aggravated officer 😊
It has been quite a challenge to locate useable fabric for the uniform. I contacted an organisation working with national costumes. Many of these costumes rougly date back to the same age. Their supplier provided some very good suggestions. An order has been placed. Fingers crossed
I did a bit of pattern shopping. I located a Laughing Moon patterns supplier within the EU (And there was much rejoycing)
Still looking for navy broadcloth, but now I can get started on the mock-up of the pantaloon trousers.

When you finally find a supplier for the hessians.... But its outside the EU... So import taxes are going to be murder...😭

A 4706 - Frederiksborg
A 4706 Juel, Jens (1745-1802) Køb en affotografering Inv.nr.: A 4706 Dateret: 1801-1802 Placering Stue 55 Type: Maleri Personer: Lassen, Lor
I found another visual reference for the Danish naval officer uniform. Painted no later than 1802. The captain in the portrait is Lorentz Fjelderup Lassen. He was considered the best performing and courageous Danish captain in "The first Battle of Copenhagen" Captain Lassen is depicted with a medal, he received on the 2'nd of April 1802. By then the new uniform regulations of January 1802 were active (for instance epaulettes on both shoulders versus the previous single shoulder version) Sadly the artist Jens Juel died late 1802. This gives a rather precise time interval for the portrait
