Brogue Style Tips How to choose and maintain a Leather Brogue women's Shoe
When purchasing a leather brogue shoe there are some fundamental features to look out for… Firstly size, as it reallydoes make a difference to everyday wear, and a shoe you can occasionally wear. The choice of size shouldn't always be dependent on a size you normally buy, as this may lead you to get a shoe that doesn't fit as shoes, boots, even sandals can be made quite differently. Depending on the shoe design, construction and finish. A size that is comfortable when you stand and walk naturally is best and if you can move your toes is ideal. Additionally the time of day has a bearing on the fit of the shoe and the size you should use. Because of this it is advisable to try on shoes in the afternoon. As all feet naturally swell as gravity throughout the day drives water and nutrients to the base of the body.
Once you have decided on your size for the type of brogue you have the next step is the fit. If the shoe is tight at heel of the shoe, or cuts at the top of the back of the shoe when you walk causing pain and discomfort then you need to consider that you may need a size up. If the shoe is snug at the back this is ideal. If your finger can fit in the back or the shoe and/or there is a lot of movement of your heel in the back of the shoe, then the shoe is too big. Be cautious to pay attention to all aspects of your feet when wearing shoes.
Rubbing of a shoe can cause blisters and excessive tightness or cut in at the back and can cause sores or even bruises if worn over time. If you choose to continue wearing a shoe that causes discomfort, exfoliate feet and use aloe vera or soothing creams to help ease tension and discomfort. Plasters and cushion pads are also a great form of pain relief.
Once the size and the heel is secure then it’s on to Shoe comfort. If your brogue is snug, after apply shoe protector, after brogues have been worn in the rain, it is suggested to let them dry naturally in a warm place by a radiator or fire. This is to prevent damage and over shrinkage causing the shoe to be tight. Do not leave directly under a heat source to dry e.g. under or on top of a radiator. Allow the shoes to air dry naturally in a warm room, near a heat source and they that will allow for a better fit.
Now I covered Size, fit and a handy tip for weather that keeps London dreary. Thinking of maintenance and now onto storage. Store brogue shoes in a fabric cloth bag or shoe rack for protection, when not in use. To keep shoes looking as gorgeous as the day they were purchased buff and clean with leather protector. I am not a fan of shoe creams, especially colours like brown, black and tan. A simple wax is best and keeps your brogues well protected.
Finally my last brogue style tip. When trying on a shoe test the fit of a shoe always opt for a protective flooring e.g. on carpet or a bath matt before wearing outside and paper if none of the above are possible.
