Abbie Gladwin
Edinburgh Based
Mixed Media Artist.
I studied Fine Art at Edinburgh College for three years. I specialised in sculpture in my final year in 2015. I work part time in a cafe and the rest of my time is spent on my artwork. I love drawing and sketching up ideas through my experiences and adventures.
I have grown up in Edinburgh my whole life. From an early age I was taken on family trips to the highlands and around Scotland. Nature and landscapes have definitely inspired me throughout my years as an artist, from my sculptural work, to ink drawings and collages.
I am passionate about exploring and using a range of different media to make my work. I really push myself out of my comfort zone. I really like combining different mediums together to give works depth, which in I feel makes the work more interesting.
Art helps me with my mental health. Its my way of coping and it brings me loads of joy when I create whether its a finished piece or a quick sketch. Art helps to distract me from my surroundings and gives me a focus I really lose myself for a bit which is a nice form of escapism. I also enjoy looking around art galleries. Living in Edinburgh I'm very lucky to have a wide range that are free on my doorstep. Also going to galleries around the world on my holidays as been a wonderful experience. Matisse, Picasso, Roy Lichentstien and Henry Moore are some of my favourite artists. I like a wide variety of artists throughout history and contemporaries.
I am inspired by pop art, comics and Sculpture. Films, music and TV shows are also huge inspirations. I love learning about artists and the techniques they use. I enjoy watching BBC Four art documentaries and reading books about them.
For my next projects, I am looking into making some larger works which I am excited about exploring.
You can find my work on online and my blog.
Bernie Barretti (2018) Bernie belongs to a lovely Canadian couple based in Toronto. Both are actors and amazing people who inspire me to be the best person I can be. So with every purchase of this pupper print, I am going to donate money to the "Toronto Humane Society" which helps to promote the humane care and protection of all animals and to prevent cruelty and suffering. Which is something that is close to my heart and to Kat and Ray's too.
work has been busy over the holiday season. But here is a wee photo of my first art stall! in Scotland in Edinburgh.
