The brothers had been approved for a travel assignment to the newly erected Statue of UNITY. The monument was a part of UNITY Directive 124.58-6D: Re-Alignment of Pre-Unification Landmarks and Monuments. The directive sought to alter or replace prominent monuments from the Fragmentation Era with UNITY-aligned monuments. The correction of this outdated iconography would help to show UNITY's superiority over the Fragmentation ideologies.

"Brothers, let's take a picture! This brother wants to remember the approved fraternal bonding from this travel cycle!"

The five brothers gathered together, each one smiling. The brothers felt at peace knowing that UNITY have overcome the chaos of the past and established a bright new future.

27164 looked up to the state, focusing on the UNITY patched etched into the statue's coveralls. Then he traced the word UNITY on his own patch. Every brother was united and UNITY was the light to guide them.

Meditation on Discipline

These past day cycles, 43551 has been meditating on the tenet of discipline.

Discipline is the engine that transforms the blueprint of Order into tangible action. It is the will to perform the necessary duty, even when the unaligned mind protests, even when the body tires.

Structured Happiness

10342 and 10343 were not always brother of UNITY. In their old lives, they were party animals and went by the names Chad and Daniel. They would stay up drinking until the sun came up. They would spend whole-days hungover until it was time to get drunk and go out again. Both men feed each other's addictions, even as their other relationships fell apart.

It was one night that Chad passed out outside a club. Paramedics were called, but things looked grim. Daniel, having a moment of sober clarity, called out for help. Luckliy for them both, two UNITY brothers were in the area promoting the brotherhood to the nightlife revelers.

The two brothers had once been nurses and they were able to stabilize Chad until the medics arrived. As the ambulance drove off, the UNITY brothers gave Daniel a card. It had an address for the UNITY Center. The brothers said they felt Daniel and Chad would benefit from learning more.

Daniel visited Chad the next day. He cried as he shared how scared he was that Daniel wouldn't make it. He admitted that something had to change before one of them was gone. He handed over the UNITY card to Daniel, telling him of the men who saved his life. Daniel, still weak and tired, said only "Let's go".

A couple days of recovery later, and Chad and Daniel visited the UNITY Center. They were greeted by the same two brothers from that fateful night. Chad thanked them both for their help and admitted again that they both needed change in their lives. The two friends were led further into the Center.

The two learned that their lives lacked structure. UNITY was founded on the Core Values of Order, Discipline, and Clarity - three things Chad and Daniel knew they lacked. It did not take much time before Chad and Daniel accepted the call and became 10342 and 10343 - two proud brothers of UNITY. No longer would they waste their lives chasing a high. Now they would conform to a structured life, one of uniformity, submission, and purpose.

This day cycle 43551 has been meditating on UNITY protocol, specifically the term 'individual efforts'. 43551 has learned that 'individual efforts' refers to the action of one but for the benefit of the whole as individuality is flawed. As a result 43551 has constructed a re-education tasks which affirms "This brother values the collective so deeply that the very notion of 'individual efforts' applies only to singular actions that immediately blend into the unified whole, reaffirming that brothers are fundamentally not individuals, but one of many."

Overheard Conversations

The city had been fully-aligned. Every man was a brother. Every man wore the same uniform and served the same Core Values. There were no strangers anymore, for even if you had never met a brother, you was still your brother.

Below are excerpts from conversations between brothers in this city:

"Did you catch the UNITY News updates this morning? Agricultural sectors report a 15% increase in output this quarterly cycle!"

"That's what happens when we work together as a collective."

"This brother has been recommended for transfer to the newly aligned sub-division. He will overseeing uniform production and distribution."

"What a glorious honor. Of course, we brothers will miss you here, but we all have a duty to spread UNITY to the unaligned."

"This brother noticed an improvement in your form during physical training this morning. UNITY recognizes your efforts."

"Thank you, brother. This brother never imagined gaining such physical discipline, but UNITY molds us mind and body."

"This brother just got a new record from the UNITY Record Store. It features speeches from UNITY Rallies past. You should come over during recreation cycle and we can listen together, brother!"

"This brother would be most aligned. This brother could bring his record of the UNITY Brother's Choir as well."

Peppered throughout each conversation were two words that seemed to anchor each man to one another. These words were always said with enthusiasm and pride. These two words formed the thread that tied the brotherhood together.

Cleaning out a Closet

Joining UNITY is not just a matter of wearing a uniform, it is about embracing a life of uniformity. UNITY brothers require only the coveralls, shirt, and tie. All other clothing is irrelevant and unaligned. Self-expression becomes self-destruction. The UNITY uniform expresses collective values and bonds between brothers.

Think of a group of men wearing different clothes, whatever they want. A mind cannot focus on building community where it is obsesses with glorifying the self through expression. When we get rid of the visual clutter and wear a uniform, we can focus together on strengthening out brotherhood.

The Only Pair Worth Having

Kenny adored his sneaker collection. He had at least a dozen of them on display, visible as soon as you opened the door, and plenty more in shoeboxes neatly organized in his closet. They were his prized possessions, things that he could never dream being without! It might've been nearing an obsession, too, taking up more space in his bedroom and closet than his bed or clothes he would actually wear each day.

As UNITY grew around his district, Kenny undoubtedly felt their pull. But their values- and the uniform rules that came along with it, initially left him resistant to joining their ranks.

It wasn't until an extensive conversation in the park with a brother that his mind was changed.

"Don't you guys get tired of wearing that uniform every day?" Kenny asked 71053.

71053, aligned in full uniform, shook his head. "This brother doesn't, 71053 does not know of a brother who does!" The brother readjusted his tie into prime position before continuing. "You have plenty of sneakers, friend."

"Yeah, I worked really hard to build up my collection."

"That is exactly the point. This brother senses pride in your words. You're proud of the collection, something just for yourself. 71053's possessions are UNITY's possessions. This brother has a collection of brothers with whom he has meaningful bonds. This brother only has one pair of black dress shoes, but that's enough for him. We're proud of UNITY."

"Huh…" It clicked for Kenny. He spent all this time building up his sneaker collection, but the only person it impressed was himself. UNITY was different.

Entering his new home, the UNITY Center, 54035 brought a bin of his possessions to deconstruct and recycle for higher UNITY purposes. 54035 had no need for dozens of pairs of sneakers anymore. The materials could serve a higher purpose for the collective. It took multiple trips to go back and forth, but there was one final (and new) pair that needed wearing in.

54035 entered his dormitory that he shared with 71053, the brother who unpicked the lock for this brother's move to UNITY. Resting on the floor by his bed was his new pair of shoes.

Black, polished dress shoes.

And there is no need for anything else.

Initial Alignment and Bonding

58431 had been nervous when they heard about the UNITY Mandate. Back then he was a carefree young man. He treated his job as a chore and took his relationships for granted. But the UNITY Mandate would change all that. The Mandate required all men to join UNITY with a compulsory six months spent in extensive re-education to align them to UNITY standards.

The young men were assigned to the UNITY Initiation Barracks attached to the UNITY Center in Sub-Division 342D-FR5. The young men received their uniforms and their UNITY designation numbers. Following initial intake, the new brothers were taken to the barracks sleeping quarters. Rows of bunk beds filled the room. 58431 found his way to his assigned bunk, where he met his bunkmate 58302.

"Hey man. Crazy how this all happened so fast, right? Name's Luke," he extended a hand.

"Umm, we should really avoid using names," responded 58302. "You heard it in the orientation, right? Names create misalignment. This brother will just call you by your designation. You can all this brother 58302."

58431's face turned red. He heard all the rules, but didn't know how serious others were taking it. Maybe that was his problem though, he never took anything seriously.

"You're totally right. I'm - Sorry - This brother is 58431," he extended his hand again. This time 58302 took and pulled him in for an embrace. Their coveralls pressed against each other, their UNITY and designation patches touching.

Suddenly a chime sounded and over the intercom came a voice: "Brothers, we must align our minds above all else. All brothers must engage in protocol review for the next hour."

58302 reached into a footlocker under the bunks and pulled out a blue book titled "UNITY PROTOCOL".

"Come on, brother, let's start reading," he sat on the bunk and patted the spot next to him for 58431 to sit. The new brother suddenly remembered something from orientation about daily studies with a companion brother.

58431 took a seat and the brothers began to take turns reading from the UNITY PROTOCOL. Some sections detailed the history of the brotherhood, others reviewed directions and schedules, and other parts still were more ideological.

58431 would've never read something like this on his own or by choice, but it was kind of fun to read it with 58302. His new brother read with an infectious enthusiasm that kept 58431 engaged, and made him try harder to read with an equal amount of gusto.

Around the room, other pairs of brothers were doing the same. 58431 had felt so nervous about the UNITY Mandate, but already he couldn't remember why. Here he was reading with a stranger in a strange room wearing a strange uniform, but it felt calm and secure. He began to see what can be accomplished when actually start to care.

43551 had an idea.

With sport being such a vital part of UNITYs day cycle and volleyball being a sport that develops discipline and teamwork, 43551 thought it would be a good idea to host a volleyball tournament for the town.

"What do you think, brothers?" 43551 asked.

"HAIL UNITY! " the brothers replied "It sounds like a great opportunity to serve the community."

The event run smoothly. The brothers, in their smart UNITY uniforms, delighted the townsfolk with displays of team spirit and discipline. The men of the town were invited to participate and were given the opportunity to don a UNITY uniform to see how it felt, including Tom, Derek and Alan, local residents.

When the event was over 43551 asked Tom, Derek and Alan how they felt the event went.

"That was great fun" Tom said

"I haven't had the opportunity to play volleyball before, thanks" Alan added.

"And how did the uniform feel?" 43551 asked.

The men looked at each other and all replied "it was an amazing feeling. It felt like I was free to be a part of something better than I ever was without it."

Tom, Derek and Alan looked at each other in the uniforms they had tried on. They knew what they wanted to do.

Three weeks later, brothers 42908, 67336 and 32097 officially joined the UNITY volleyball team. No longer were they Tom, Derek and Alan

A Bright New Day for All Men

There is no denying that every man needs a purpose in life, a goal to strive towards every day. There is also no denying that too many men do not feel that purpose or drive. They are lost, adrift in a world that divides and belittles those seek community. Perhaps many reading this feel the same way.

43551 and the brothers of UNITY were asked to man a stall at the local.town fayre.

As the day progressed, mant people visited the fayre and stopped by the stall. There was much interst in UNITY.

As the day cycle drew to a close, 43551 had dozens of signatures all requesting more information about the tenets of Order, Discipline and Clarity and how following UNITY can lead to a rewarding future.

HAIL UNITY! The brothers exclaim as they picked up the few remaining leaflets. "It is alogning to see how much interest there is"

Protocol and Re-education

Re-education is an ongoing quest for every UNITY brother and 73281 and 84567 are no exception. Each day after their work period they commit to 3 hours of combined study.

Chapters are copied out word for word from The UNITY Book of Protocol to embed the learning. After each chapter is a 30 question comprehension test on details from every angle of the chapter. All brothers must achieve 100% and any result lower, qualifies them to complete a further 50 question comprehension test... and so the process goes on until the 100% mark is achieved.

After achieving the compliance success rate just before the study period of that evening came to a close, 73281 turns to 84567 and exclaims,

"This brother feels the protocol really sinking in now. This deepened knowledge of each section and sub section of Protocol 198A - 206D will surely strengthen my performance in each of those relevant areas and benefit the collective brotherhood."

84567 smiles in agreement and agrees,

"Praise the brothers who created this program for us and directed us to the re-education center. Only one more test to work on tonight and then it will be designated sleep time and we can recontinue the chapter tomorrow."

Both brothers nod and say in unison,

"HAIL UNITY!"
