I maintain my stance that less is more but sometimes things present themselves that simply need that little extra... It’s fun playing all the parts of your own song (video to come soon) and having to sometimes do things twice because ideas morph into bigger more complex ideas in the end. This was a basic riff on guitar that I put drums to, upon recording more guitar, I thought of some glitch parts that would be better accented by the drums. so for now I’ll keep these but when I’m done with the rest of the song, I’ll re-record the drums adding in new small changes to spice things up. In honor of our @brooklynvegan single debut today, I thought I would post a clip from @recordthieves practice a while back when we were writing all of the songs on this album. Today is a such a big day for us, we have worked so hard on this record and can’t thank everyone enough for the belief and support in it. My guitarist for @recordthieves and I are toying around with some new song ideas. I decided to post this with the demo music included to show my approach to writing drums. As you can see I’m not trying to do crazy fills and be all over the place. I believe as a drummer it’s our job to be the foundation of a song and lift up all the other members in the band. Play your parts, play them well and play them solid but remember to PAY ATTENTION to your band mates... accent them, match your kick patterns to their picking patters etc. soon you’ll find yourself in a much tighter band and will be a lot happier. 3 inside 4 can be very very difficult. I know when I first learned this timing it straight up baffled me. With some practice and an understand that when you count 3 inside of 4 the 1 will always resolve back around and land properly, this will open up a TON of doorways inside your drumming ability. Knowing Triplets was a big game changer for me, take the time to learn it.
