Someone on Tik Tok said "Bad people can be brave too", and it made me think: the tragedy with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is that it probably would've ended up differently only if Lucy Gray Baird had died in the arena.

Because that would've been an injustice that would've hit Coriolanus directly, both in his pride and in that sliver of humanity he had. It would gave him a personal reason to truly rebel.

He had won, he had cheated and manipulated and done everything he could so Lucy Gray would win, and she did it, so he deserved to have everything that came with winning: the money, the prestige, the girl.

Instead, the Capitol killed Lucy Gray, and they still punished him for cheating (See the Haymitch parallels?), still sent him to District 12. Now that, that would be quite a good reason to be angry right? Quite the reason to turn against the Capitol. Not because he saw how inhuman the games were or because he thought the Capitol was wrong, but because it betrayed him personally, it took away something that he tought he deserved. It helps that by dying tragically, his relationship with Lucy Gray never falls apart, so he still has all that love (wether it was sincere love or just sense of possession doesn't matter, he tought it was love) for her and the hurt that comes from losing her the moment he believed he could finally have her.

Snow has always paralled Katniss in the way that they were both unwilling rebels. It came naturally for them to do things society forbid them to do, even when they knew it would bring repercussions. But while Katniss did them out of love and compassion, Snow did it always out of self interest. He wouldn't rebel if the status quo fit him, no matter how many people got hurt or killed. But the moment the society he believed in betrayed him? oh that would push him to act alright.

And what a rebel he would be, ruthless and cunning, with a silver tongue and lethal poison in his pockets. Unstoppable. Because Coriolanus Snow was a bad person, but he was brave, daring, stubborn to a fault. He was smart and patient enough to play the long game in order to achieve what he wanted, and if that had been to bring down the Capitol and reduce it to ashes, you can bet that he would've managed it. He would be no Mockingjay, he would leave that role to Sejanus, but to avenge his Songbird and the life that was denied to him, he would become a damn good snake.
