❛ nacchan, happy birthday~ ♪ ❜ to the other knight, he presents his gift: a cake (?) of questionable appearance. however, rather than his usual outlandish designs, this one looks almost decent, with fruits and several roses made of chocolate and cream adorning the sweet. ( almost, for despite the intricately crafted candy, the rest of the cake still exudes a somewhat ominous aura. ) ❛ you usually run when you see my desserts, but you'll be missing out on something su~per delicious if you do~ ❜

               “ oh, ritsu - chan! “   she presses a hand to her mouth, an exaggerated gasp leaving her as ritsu presents her with a cake— notably much nicer looking than his usual confectioneries despite the tinge of doubt that still lingers over it.  she carefully plucks the sweet out of his hands, balancing it with one hand as she pulls him into a hug with the other.

               “ and here i thought you would sleep through my birthday! “   she teases, but there is genuine appreciation in her voice as she pulls back, “ thank you. “   she’s still got her doubts about the cake, though.

       ‘ ritsu ,  is that not more than enough sugar ? ’  he quirks an eyebrow at the bowl his little brother is holding  -  more and more of the sweet powder continues piling up in it .  his hair is tied up into a neat ponytail to avoid any of the frosting he’s making getting stuck on it ,  gentle smile plastered on his face  -  he’s more than thrilled that ritsu’s allowing him to help .  ‘ if you keep adding more ,  it’ll be too sweet even for you ~ ’

          ❛  i didn’t ask for your opinion, anija.  ❜   almost as if in spite, he tips even more sugar into the bowl; surely, by this point, its proportion to the other ingredients has become far skewed beyond balance, but there’s no way the treat will turn out bad. it’s a dessert he made himself, after all — one of the few things he can truly take pride in himself for. ( in the worst case, he’ll let rei suffer from its overly saccharine sweetness. no loss for him. )

“ i’m afraid that hajime won’t make it today. as far as i know, he has some family business to take care of… i wasn’t able to squeeze anything more out of him, though. ” the tone of eichi’s voice is soft, carefree, his usual guard nonexistent; his hands, however, are slightly shaky as he divides the cookies onto their respective plates, careful not to scatter any crumbs. in some way, he catches feeling somewhat glad that it was just the two of them — ritsu is more passive about voicing his concern, and eichi’s state was no better than questionable since the moment he opened his eyes. not enough to cause any problems, no — just enough for others to notice.

“ is there anything you want to discuss, perhaps? if that’s the case, i will gladly lend my ear or offer my own opinion. as far as i am capable of, of course. ” he then proceeds to pour the tea into their cups, thankfully avoiding spilling a single drop. a good day despite everything, it seems.

          ❛  family business? that’s too bad... i guess haakun can’t be here to pamper us all the time, after all.  ❜   there’s an unspoken agreement of curiosity that lingers between the two of them; unfortunately for hajime, he’s sure to be met with some questions upon returning. a drawling yawn follows his remark, veiling the faint flicker of concern, but he waves it aside — their junior is stronger than he may look. 

              the faint tremor that afflicts the blonde’s grip does not go unnoticed, but not a word regarding it escapes his lips; it doesn’t seem too threatening, and he’s sure eichi would rather not be constantly nagged about his deteriorating condition. ( he wouldn’t either. ) lazily, he leans forward to grab a cookie and raise it to his mouth — delicious as always, but still incomparable to his own — before slouching back into his seat like a rag doll.   ❛  mm... you’re awfully forward today, ecchan. well, i was going to take a nap, but you already laid everything out... i’ll sleep afterwards.  ❜
