Time had not yet chanced to heal the wounds inflicted by manās ignorance and lust for true understanding of that which was thought to be inconceivable. Though flesh had woven itself anew and left a map of mangled scars, it was the damage done to her heart and mind alike that had yet to be cured.
That was not to say, however, that Fleurette did not trust Pollution. It was with her very life that the experiment trusted the Horseman, for she had been at his mercy since that very day at the side of the stagnant lake.
Ah, but he was not blind to her discomfort. He, like many oddities of this world, perceived quite beyond that which humans were accustomed to. Human herself, undoubtedly, albeit a littleā¦ stranger, so to speak. She was nonetheless appreciative of Pollyās subtle way of shifting to accommodate her. The albino reached up to press a kiss to the corner of his lips with a playful smile.
āHorsepeople are meant to be terrifying and wrathful. And yet, here you have me. What happened, Polly ?ā
Terrifying and wrathful? Not really. It wasnāt required of them to be this way. Really, only Death and War ever seemed to follow this rule.Ā
Pollution was never meant to be terrifying--pro- bably only disturbing, maybe mildly irritating, but mostly unnoticeable. Famine, on the other hand... Well, if one knew and understood just what sort of person FabioĀ was, they would know that, beneath the intimidating demeanor, he was nowhere near terrifying and wrathful.Ā
ā Mm. Not all Horsepeople.Ā āĀ
Anyway, not the point. The point here was the nickname. He could not quite fathom why she continued to use it on him, even after heād in- sisted several times that she kindly dispose of it. He had to laugh as soon as he heard it leave her lips once more.Ā

Fleurette has but one little trick in getting Pollution to fall asleep. He is not so much accustomed to the human necessity, as strange as he is wont to be, and so the previous experiment has been trying to introduce him to a moreā¦ ordinary lifestyle (in between overturning oil tankers and causing leaks in toxic waste plants). She found that stroking her thumb along the bridge of his nose as they lie together sends him off to sleep surprisingly quickly. Goodness only knows why, but she finds it extremely endearing.
Whereupon she felt fingertips ever ghosting the length of her back, the muscles always chanced to tighten as if in fear of an unkind touch. He was by no means a stranger to the mass scarring in the form of twisted, mangled flesh produced at the hand of her captors; it was as ungodly to think of as it was to look upon, or so she presumed, but she neednāt fear Pollutionās judgement. Though she knew that, her body had yet to; it would take time indeed.
āNo idea,ā hummed Fleurette, who chanced to nuzzle her nose along the groove of his neck where she lay wholly at peace. To entertain the idea of what it was they had done for one another was to spiral into an entire slew of complexities from which they would never return.
Still. It didnāt really hurt to think of it in simple terms, did it ?
āI like to think that we have made each other much better. I certainly feel like a better person because of you.ā
Mm. Hadnāt yet disappeared, it seemed. Of course, he couldnāt blame her. It was a sen- sitive spot and a sensitive subject, her back-- and not always in the pleasantest of ways. He could still remember how scared and hesitant sheād first been to show him, and how her sobs had broken his tiny rock of a heart.Ā
Still, as littered with scars and a story far too horrific to return to was her back, he loved it for how it was, and he loved her as well. No blemishes, big or small, could ever detract from that.Ā
For the moment, he allowed his head to wander back up to her head, fingers threading through her air, away from that which had caused her some momentary shock and anxiety.Ā
