ooc . ok so you know how i mentioned on tooru’s blog that what makes bnha so linear and consistent is that everything goes back to all might somehow ? this applies to mirio , too , even though he ... honestly has no real connection to all might past having met him like . once , and that’s it . and i’m not just talking about the fact that he interns for nighteye , either --- mirio is connected to all might both because he lives in the society that reveres such a hero , but he’s also connected in the sense that , despite wanting to be a hero like the one who saved him all those years ago ( even going so far as to take inspiration from that hero’s costume for his own ) , mirio is ... really , an ideal image of what all might is .
and that isn’t even just from the fact that he’s more or less the kind of hero that all might helped foster and inspire in society --- i think mirio is , or can be , even better than that . because while it’s true that all might is an ideal hero figure , he also unknowingly created a world that relies on quirks , despite having been born quirkless , himself . in contrast , i think that mirio is the kind of person who doesn’t discriminate based on one’s abilities .
when all might first meets izuku , he’s quick to reject him on his dreams of being a hero simply based on the fact that he’s quirkless , adopting a rather pessimistic , realistic point of view on that fact . it’s not until izuku selflessly and instinctively goes to rescue katsuki when no one else would , that all might realizes that he does have the potential in him to be a hero . but when it comes to mirio ? he really doesn’t ... judge based on that ? obviously , he’s a realist ( albeit an optimistic one ) , so he’d acknowledge that trying to create something out of yourself when life has essentially handed you nothing is tough --- but he would never discourage anyone from wanting to become a hero . and that’s not even just in the grand sense , either , mirio really does believe you can be a hero irregardless of how small or large the deeds you do are . there’s no such thing as a small good deed , anyway . offering to help someone on something seemingly menial can create a domino effect that leads to them living another day --- butterfly effect and all that . web of life .
it’s because of this viewpoint that mirio really doesn’t see him losing his quirk as anything too big . in actuality , he just sees it as another hurdle in his life to overcome . being quirkless doesn’t stop anyone from being a hero --- it’s society’s discrimination and ignorance that leads quirkless individuals into thinking that they can’t do anything to become heroes . but mirio has never believed that . anyone can become a hero , whether or not you’re born with natural talent / skill . after all , if someone like him can master a quirk as dangerous and useless as his , then it’d surely be much easier for someone quirkless to utilize their unique skillset to help others ! be gay ! fight crime !!
