A music video for "Ablutions," a new track by Kyle Bruckmann, from his forthcoming album Patternalia, on Clairvoyant Records.
I'm up to some of my usual tricks, here - a grid of circles is still a grid, and as with several previous projects, the animation is present as a continuous single “shot” or “take” with no edits. But there are some new developments, too - that single shot encompasses transitions between several contrasting “scenes,” aligned with my understanding of the structure of Kyle’s music. I’ve also used partially-transparent color as a way to get various blur and glow effects that create a sense of depth, even though this is fundamentally a flat picture plane without any use of perspective or other simulated 3-D.

“Now That's What I Call Short, vol. 7” is the second single from Bridges of Königsberg’s album Peak Time and Its Malcontents. My bandmate David describes this animation as "neo-psychedelic," and while I never would have said that I was aiming for that... he's not wrong.
(It's also very, very plaid. Until it's not).

"giving 110%" is the lead single from Bridges of Königsberg's new album, Peak Time and Its Malcontents. It's a noisy good time, so I made a noisy generative animation to accompany it, inspired in part by pixel art and old-school computer graphics.

A digitally / generatively animated video for "Cascade", a track from Pinball (2025), a new album made together with composer / guitarist Bryan Jacobs. I had a lot of fun trying to dream up a visual that would match the glorious level of bonkers in the music.
Composer / guitarist Bryan Jacobs and I started playing music together in 2022. From the jump, our duo has felt like a perfect fit: we share an enthusiasm for dense, knotty music, and structured-but-unpredictable rhythms. And we think in similar ways about the instruments we use to improvise, and the performer’s relationship to technology.
First, we both use home-brewed software to enhance our abilities as performers. For instance, Bryan’s electronics can transform a simple guitar lick into an impossibly fast cascade of notes, while my software facilitates closely-tuned microtonal scales that don’t map onto a traditional keyboard layout. Second, we’re both interested in software with a degree of autonomy. The electronics make musical decisions (based on the algorithms we’ve designed), and we as performers both adapt to and shape the materials that our instruments generate. We intertwine the real-time decision-making of improvisation with the slow and considered choices of composition - expressing the latter in the code we write and run.
And then we complicate things further by getting into a room together and playing our instruments side-by-side. At which point there’s way more than enough stimulus to react to and bounce off of. Lightning quick, and yet inexorably pulled by gravity, our favorite metaphor for this work is Pinball. Plug a quarter into the machine and hear the results...
