Derren/Doctor AU || The Doctor wants a new companion, but Derren’s not so sure.

He hears something in the garden. A noise…so subtle…but it’s there and then it gets louder and louder. His mind rationally tells him it’s impossible, that maybe he’s dreaming again (it’s been happening a lot lately) but then his heart pounds in his chest, and the adrenaline bursts through him like it does when the heat of the stage lights are on his face. It’s him. It must be. The noise stops, and the wind against the trees settles into silence. He doesn’t run to the door. He sits there patiently, as if he’d been expecting him. He had been. Secretly. And sure enough, 3.5 minutes later, there he is, all smiles and still wearing that stupid bow tie. The silly mad man with a box just landed in his back garden and now he’s standing in his kitchen. His Doctor.
