This is Ernst Udet (1896-1941), one of Hermann’s pilot comrades during WW1, who was ultimately thrown under the bus by Goering. Udet struggled with alcoholism, which became a big issue at the peak of WW2, due to the insane amount of pressure the Luftwaffe was under.

To avoid being scapegoated, Goering ended up having Udet take the place of the ultimate scapegoat, which ended with Ernst Udet taking his own life on November 17, 1941. 🪦
