I used to ship Jaime and Cersei but as things are now, Cersei does not deserve Jaime. I ship Jaime with Brienne now b/c Jaime would be kind and good to her and she needs that.
Well I shipped Jaime and Brienne since the first time they met in the books, I’ve always been a sucker for the enemies to friends to lovers trope and i’ve always wanted to see a woman who is seen as unattractive by society get a guy who’s conventionally handsome.
Still i find it a bit weird when people say ‘Cersei doesn’t deserve Jaime’ because a relationship, even a fictional one, ain’t that easy to judge. Especially one that’s between siblings who also happen to be twins who also kinda grew up isolated and emotionally neglected by their father.
It’s not a question of ‘deserve’ when you -love- someone, if it were, a lot of people would die alone. But they don’t because most of the time love isn’t rational or logical. What you do to groom that love should be logical and rational. But that feeling that you would die for someone even if they wouldn’t do the same for you is not.
With that in mind I never believed Cersei deserved Jaime because even though she did love Jaime she’s not the one who did most of the heavy emotional lifting in their relationship. But that is true for most human real relationships: some people give more while others take. It’s not that the ones who take more don’t love, they just have their own ways of showing it and if the person they’re with isn’t lying to themselves that is exactly what they want. So Cersei didn’t deserve Jaime but Cersei is exactly what Jaime deserved/deserves. Because some people like to lose themselves in other people, they want to make relationships and love the center of their being, they want to be the one who loves more. And I truly believe Jaime is one of those characters and that’s why I never agreed to the idea that he’s evil or that Cersei is making him evil. If Cersei had a dog who loved and protected her through whatever she’s doing, would we call that dog evil? Would we say that Cersei’s making that dog evil? Because as simple as that might sound, I truly believe that’s Jaime at his core: a loyal creature who, if you feed once, you can ignore multiple times and he’ll still come back to you. Jaime wants to be able to protect the people he loves, he wants to support them and he wants to be free to love them without any judgement from others.
That is why, no matter what happens, I don’t think Jaime will be the one to kill Cersei, unless it’s to put her out of her misery or something like that. And as for Jaime and Brienne…god I wish that all his love and loyalty could be magically poured into Brienne but that’s just not how things work in GoT and if he’s gonna stay true to his character, he won’t be a perfect partner for Brienne because he will always love Cersei, no matter what happens to her. And yes, I believe he also loves Brienne with perhaps a purer and less codependent type of love but he will always love Cersei so I doubt Jaime and Brienne will ever get a happy ending.
Anyway… I’m sorry I’ve written so much,I know no one will read this so…
TLDR; Even if I’m aware Jaime and Brienne won’t be a perfect couple because Jaime is effed up I still want them to BANG already.
