Toru Kamei was born in 1976. He is inspired by Vanitas and tries to express transience but beautiful, drawing upon symbols like skulls which are a reminder of the certainty of death and flowers which symbolize transience of beauty. His oil painting combines a mood of memento mori with a tacky sense of humor to create an odd feeling of optimism. <source>
