The responses I got when I asked about what everyone’s stimulus checks would be spent on turned out to be fairly representative, so this should prove insightful as well.

Yes. The lumber meme is real and the steel shop I work at has had to adjust it's buisness practises because steel has nearly doubled in price. Meat is up I'd say 25% that's just a guess. Firearm supply has started to return to normal but prices are maybe 10-20% higher and I expect that will stay(a $550 glock is now $600 for example). Ammo still high af but starting to settle.

Obviously theirs a lot of market forces going on but when the cost of raw building supplies, meat, and firearms is up I mean what else is there? I'm calling that inflation.

Oh and housing is sky high right now. My parents just sold my grandmother's house with severe smoke damage at asking price for a cash offer the same day it hit the market. Granted it's in Florida and lots of new yorkers etc. are trying to escape the lock down but homes are moving exactly like they were back in 2008. I live the south east and have yet to see a big jump in gas prices yet though. Once again housing, building supplies, guns, and food all more expensive. Something's comming and I think some of it is already here

Everything is inflated. The price of corn is up 140% / bushel over last year.

Very simple mechanics at work here;

You cannot shutter the economy for a year, create pent up demand, print TRILLIONS of dollars in “relief” and then open up not expecting wild inflation. You have limited material goods due to government intervention and you have insane liquidity due to government intervention.

Fewer goods and infinitely more dollars chasing them = major inflationary pressure.

And the people who created these conditions knew what they were doing.

I supervise large commercial construction projects in the PNW. Here are a couple letters I received 3 different roofing suppliers recently warning us about the rising prices. Yes, inflation is very real and severe at the moment.

Gas here is damn near $3/a gallon for unleaded.

I’m glad that my moped, while it takes premium and it’s still kind of expensive, is only a gallon tank. I’ve never been more grateful to drive something so tiny in my life

It was about $12 this time last year.
