Workshop Overview

Syllabus:

Students will gain an understanding of the basic principles of animation through lectures, tutorials, and screenings. Through a number of small projects, students will explore the possibilities of motion graphics for broadcast, mobile, and web.

Class 1

Introduction to After Effects

Keyframing, easing, graph editor, motion path

Assignment: Create a basic animation of an object along a path 

Class 2

Masking and Matting 

Mask opacity, expansion, and shape

Assignment: Create an animated sequence for a product or television program for broadcast and mobile

Class 3

Animated Loops

Time remapping, expressions, parenting

Assignment: Create two kinds of animated loops

Class 4

Walk Cycle

Parallax, 2.5D, Camera

Character Assignment

Assignment: Create a walk cycle animation with a multi-jointed character

Refinement and Effects
