One way to explain Jay’s lack of messages to Hailey is basically that there is a Halstead sister who works for the CIA and has been undercover with a cartel all this time, and Jay was contacted to help her (she was in a situation she needed to get out of but couldn’t—something like she was supposed to fake her death when the cartel’s former leader died, but because she was in a relationship with his son, she had to stay and ended up getting pregnant and having a child, so she didn’t leave or couldn’t leave or something like that), and Jay never actually made it to Bolivia. The thing is, he said he’d only go if Hailey knew everything, and the people in charge said they’d tell her, but in the end, they didn’t keep their end of the deal. And his sister shows up in Chicago when Hailey is signing the divorce papers and explains where Jay is and that he needed help (imprisoned or something like that) and that Jay told his sister that if anything happened, if she didn’t know who to trust, she should ask Intelligence for help and they would help her. She knows Jay is alive because his death was supposed to be the initiation of her son into the cartel (like the son kill him) is basically smth like that but can change anything that would like :))

Jay has a son he has a custody of after ending a past relationship that went badly (I’ll leave that part of the storyline to the writer’s creativity). Hailey has a daughter as well, also after a relationship that didn’t work out (again, creative freedom there). The kids are in the same daycare class (two or three years old, I think it’s a cute age). For the rest, I’ll leave the writers complete creative freedom.

Jay Halstead is the head of one of the FBI’s Unit (I’ll leave the technical details to the writer) who is called to solve a case involving dozens of suspicious deaths in Skala, Greece. The case could involve suspected poisonings that appear to be voluntary deaths, but are actually the work of a serial killer. The investigation leads Jay and his unit to look into a Resturant that serve Greek cuisine and the first suspect is the owner of the Resturant: Hailey Upton. Of course, Hailey is innocent, but behind these murders there is someone trying to frame her (the reasons behind are up to the writer). Over the course of the investigation, we start with a Jay who is fully convinced that Hailey is guilty, but as he begins to learn more about her difficult life, we get a protective Jay — very much protective Jay. The two fall in love ove the course of the story.
