JOHNNY / PEANUT HEADCANONS
- they’re childhood best-friends. they became friends, then stopped talking after not getting classes together in elementary. then they became friends again later after johnny had found peanut crying on the curb after getting picked on by the older kids (in summary: johnny kicked their asses). peanut had originally grown up as a wimpy kid who cried constantly and stayed in his shell mostly. but after johnny introduced him to the other greasers, peanut toughened up because of them and johnny’s influence— though he still doesn’t get much respect despite johnny declaring since childhood that peanut would be “second-in-command.” the greasers still view peanut as the cry baby who hid behind johnny in most of their early years together.
- adding onto peanut’s canon mirror dialogue in the game, he mainly talks about himself or lola in the school bathroom mirrors. but, after peanut realized he’d actually developed feelings for johnny, he started doing “private mirror prep talks.” he’d stand in front of the small cracked mirror in his room in the tenements and pretend to be johnny, saying things “lola’s outta da ballpark, yer mine larry” and “woah pea, yer so strong an’ handsome” while putting on that accent johnny has to give himself a confidence boost because he can imagine johnny actually saying it to him. once, vance had caught him mid session and refused to let it go.
- after their relationship was finally established, they kind’ve circled around each other for a few weeks. all of peanut’s confidence went down the drain when it came to johnny and he’d get incredibly nervous in front of him. johnny treated peanut like he always did, just adding that slight confident touch to it. but after that first stage passed, the earlier awkwardness faded leaving a very cocky peanut who would brag about his pretty boyfriend with any chance he got. he once watched peanut pick and tease a nerd till the guy was in tears just because he so much as uttered johnny’s name. johnny didn’t realize how much he enjoyed it.
- peanut easily folded for johnny even before the relationship. he had always been the “teacher’s pet” of the greasers (johnny as the teacher). he’d run errands for johnny at the snap of his fingers which is why he got teased a lot by the other greasers; pretty submissive for johnny. he couldn’t even keep secrets from johnny because “he’s my best friend.” but because of peanut’s obedience, he was always rewarded. a kiss on the cheek if they were alone (though even that was pushing it a bit), getting to hold johnny’s hand for a few seconds before johnny mumbled something about lola waiting for him and leaving, once he’d even got to hold johnny’s waist for a minute after being particularly good to him.
- once both comfortable while dating, they hung out a lot. people would see johnny and know peanut was probably right around the corner. but because johnny was a senior and peanut is a junior, they had not many classes together other than shop, though during shop peanut was forced to work on a bike while johnny got to fiddle with a car. on most days, they ended up alone together behind the outdoor bleachers, smoking. peanut called this time “johnny time” mainly because it was one of the only times he got to see johnny during the day. nobody interrupted johnny time unless they wanted a beating from larry.
- peanut loved showing off that he was dating johnny at any given time. in his world, johnny was the sun. the first day they started dating, peanut had thanked god for giving him such a beautiful boy. because of this devotion, peanut could often be found spraying johnny’s name all over town. he’d take the most vibrant paints to catch attention and write johnny’s name along with a corny remark on the side of the building, topping it off with a crown above the n’s in his name. he wasn’t ashamed of it at all. he even sprayed his name on the concrete wall in the hole. whenever johnny asked peanut how it got there, he’d either lie and pretend johnny had done it himself, or he’d proudly state that he did it to drag a reaction from johnny.
- johnny got very paranoid during their relationship. lola had really screwed him over, causing johnny to be a bit possessive over peanut in an unhealthy way. always asking where he was going before he left, getting jealous and quick to judge if peanut talked to another guy/girl, some days he felt like everyone was trying to steal peanut away from him. part of that is why peanut is so hostile to everyone because he doesn’t want johnny thinking he isn’t loyal or worse— johnny thinking he was cheating on him in some way. that was also why johnny got so desperate for peanut after small arguments. sure, they may not be the most healthy for each other— but they still have a lot of undeniable chemistry.
- peanut has a little bit of a lazy eye (yes i headcanon this because i have one irl shhhh) that he’s pretty insecure of. it’s nothing major, just one eye drifts slightly farther away than the other if he zones out. even if it was small, students at bullworth academy were mean and would pick on him for it every chance. johnny had come up behind peanut one night as peanut was getting ready for bed, arms wrapping around his torso. peanut had literally been trying to slap the eye back in place in front of the cracked mirror, heel of his hands hitting his temple whenever the eye dared wonder. johnny had to literally hold his wrists so he’d stop. after that, he’d get extremely angry if anyone openly made fun of peanut’s eye.
- johnny and peanut had slightly similar childhoods. at a young age (1-7), johnny’s parents would smoke and drink around him, basically neglect him till the cops came to the door and arrested them. johnny had stayed with peanut for a little bit after while he was being placed in and out of foster care before living in the tenements and providing for himself by fourteen. peanut’s parents had died when peanut was four, leaving not many memories with them. after that, he lived with his grandmother in a trailer park. they help each other cope a lot though most of it is through awkward hugs and nervous cuddles.
- peanut had been the first to check on johnny after he lost to jimmy. after being knocked off of a pile of cars and being close to breaking his leg, johnny only mattered in his mind more. while the greasers returned home— battered and bruised— peanut was limping back to the lot to make sure johnny was okay. he ended up catching johnny fighting angry tears waiting to come; peanut knew his boyfriend was a sore loser. he ended up carrying home despite his own leg throbbing as johnny claimed jimmy had cheated in some way (news flash: he didn’t). he carried him all the way to his trailer and they ended up falling asleep in peanut’s bed together with aching ribs.
