Saved my prince(ss) from the tower π
' so i heard the news 'bout quasartico and their ceo situation. good job using your last two functioning brain cells and focusing more on team mz ! your friends should be thanking you. '
β funny , i don't remember asking for your opinion. β
corbeau's presence annoys urbain. in fact , if he never had to see corbeau again , he'd still think it was too soon. but in the presence of his friends , urbain will keep a smile on his face , even if his jaw is clenched so hard it's giving him a headache right now. it wasn't that big of a deal that he'd turned down jett's job offer , was it ??
not that urbain had taken it seriously to begin with. quasartico was in hot water over the prism tower situation , not to mention the people who'd already been protesting the wild zones that covered most of lumiose by now. jett wanted a new face for the company , someone else to handle the backlash , & even if she was family , urbain didn't feel like being her scape-gogoat.
β & even if i had taken the job , i still would've made time for my friends. if someone like you even knows what that's like. β
wehh....i love urbain and i miss him but paxton refuses to let me write anyone else.
i kind of mentioned this on another blog that i have some uh. thoughts and feelings about urbain in the post-game, and i kind of want to talk about it here, and state that for the most part i am headcanon based and at times completely canon divergent. for my part, i'll go along with jett being urbain's grandmother and wanting him to be a part of quasartico, but that's about where i draw the line because quite honestly, for urbain to accept the position actually goes against the desires he's shown and stated previously. plus, quite frankly, i just don't see him lasting long in the upper echelons of society because it's just not who he is.
for my portrayal, urbain does not know how to be rich. his parents were divorced from a very young age, his mother walked out on them when urbain was around eight, and while urbain's father let him make every attempt to contact her, she made no effort to reach back all that often for a considerable amount of time. for the most part, urbain was raised exclusively by his single father who ran a cafe in shalour and santalune, making enough to get by, but not enough to be comfortable. urbain knew his father's struggle, and he knew they never had much money, but his father always took care of him. his mother died during the events of geosenge town in x and y for the purposes of my portrayal. him and his father never knew much about her extended family, just that her remaining relatives lived in lumiose, and urbain moved there to find them. urbain was, is, and always has been relatively lower class, and he's alright with that. he works hard for the things he does have and knows how to stretch a budget, but he does not know what to do with money or how to belong with the elites of society. finding out that not only is his grandmother the ceo of the company behind the redevelopment of lumiose, but also that she wants to entrust the future of the company to him is staggering, and he doesn't know how to handle that.
also, urbain has a notable habit of shirking real responsibility, as seen with his debt to the rust syndicate. for the majority of that situation, urbain is nowhere to be found, nor can any member of team mz get ahold of him. he has a tendency to make himself unavailable when he doesn't want to deal with difficult situations, choosing instead to focus on remaining busy and avoiding true responsibility until he can't anymore. were he to be the ceo of quasartico, urbain doesn't have the luxury of running away from responsibility and difficult decisions and scenarios like he does being with team mz. truthfully, this trait makes him a shitty leader, and ultimately i think quasartico would crumble with urbain at the helm. i know it's framed as a way for him to continue helping the people of lumiose, but truthfully, it's also an exit strategy for jett to avoid facing backlash for the lumiose situation. the people of lumiose not only know urbain well, they also like him a great deal, not to mention the notoriety of being one of the heroes that saved lumiose. he's garnered a relatively positive reputation for himself in the city, and both jett and vinnie are acutely aware of this, and it's probably the biggest driving factor is jett asking urbain to replace her as ceo.
despite his habit of shirking responsibility and running from difficult situations, urbain does care deeply for not only the people of lumiose, but for the members of team mz and hotel z itself. taking jett's offer means he basically abandons team mz and the hotel, and despite his many, many character flaws, one thing urbain is is loyal to his friends. he would never truly abandon them, and he could never abandon az's legacy, either. that said, his consideration of jett's offer does create somewhat of a rift between him and team mz, but ultimately i think that even if urbain did accept the position, he wouldn't be a good fit legitimately, which is why i also believe urbain would only ever be ceo in name, acting as a new face for the company while being merely a puppet. looking at team mz again, it's obvious that urbain is the leader because team mz is his idea, but he does very little in the way of true leadership.
all this is to say, i am going canon divergent from the post-game and i will not write urbain as the head of quasartico. despite that, he does still maintain involvement with the company in the aftermath of the game's story, working with quasartico to better integrate people and pokemon into a lumiose where they can truly live in harmony. he is not particularly close to jett by any means, but he does make an effort as she is his family. his position in relation to quasartico is more of an envoy of lumiose, advocating for its citizens and doing what he can to truly help protect and strengthen the lumiose he's come to love. hotel z, while important to him, is not a truly thriving business, but he does what he can to keep it operational, retaining his role as housekeeper there as well.

also uh. urbain's mom being part of team flare makes my unpublished origin hc Very funny bc uh. i had her dying around the same time as the geosenge bullshit. she definitely got caught up in the ultimate weapon stuff i think. but him having ties to team flare makes his people-pleasing attitude make a Lot more sense. i have some updated thoughts about his backstory now.
saw someone go 'what if urbain/taunie got blasted w immortality from ange' and my third eye is wide the fuck open. bc ange was designed to make az Actually Immortal so floette wouldn't be alone and uh. do we think maybe that has any devastating effects on someone who was in the tower when ange started going apeshit. i think it might.
mmm i am. thinking some thoughts abt urbain. particularly the whole 'taking floette up into the tower where the unstable Eternal Life Machine is and then it fucking explodes' thing near the end. im rotating that in my brain rn.
urbain and taunie are literally so rin and len coded i needed to see them together ππ
I collabed with @books-are-my-life-stuff on one of our fav ship: Paxton/Urbain The fic is written by her and I provide the art, please do check it out if you like them, it's really beautiful and tender sobs
