Working in the new biz.

Lately I have been really hitting it hard to get the new business up and running. I  am so excited and I have been doing a ton of research. With Urban City Resumes, it was pretty basic and easy to get the company up and running. But with this (I will release more info as I get it ;-), it is a brand new product. Or a brand new concept on an old idea. It is very interesting how hard it is to come up with a product. So I had the idea, which of course is step 1. Then I got a patent, then a sample created, which was perfect. So I have now approved the sample and I am waiting to place an bulk order. But the snag now is tagging and packaging. Which I have never done. I have drawn out my logo, but I still need to name the product. So the actual getting it to look nice on, let’s say a shelf, that is difficult. There are so many options for packaging. I am thinking of a bag type set up, that way it could be hung from a wall at a store nicely. At first I wanted a box, but now I am leaning towards a bag. Oh and, another snag is that I want the fabric to have a pattern! Oh my goodness, the fabric I want does not come in a pattern, so now I am thinking about screen printing and educating myself on the “how to’s”. I really want the whole business to be online and outsourced. So now thinking about designing and printing on the fabric in house, changes that whole concept. I looked into outsourcing to a print screener but it looks like they want to charge way too much per item. I am getting the design done and my logo by a graphic designer now, that should be in within the next 2-3 days. I just need maybe someone in textile designs or a screen printer, someone in packaging, and I still need to think more on the name of the product. But as far as hiring, the screen printer and packager. If anyone knows of anyone, let me know. Another person I have reached out to, to hire is a photographer. Once I get more info on the design, I will be doing a photo shoot, in order to get the product out on the market. I still have some decisions to make as far as where to release the product. I want to release it on Etsy, eBay, and Amazon. But I am thinking I should get a personal web page as well. My end goal is to really get purchase orders in bulk - wholesale - from retailers like babies’r’us and buy buy baby to name a few. So I want to be strategic in my selling. I just wanted to blog about all of this to get information from you all, if anyone has been through launching a new product. While at the same time creating interest. I plan to launch at the end of March, beginning of April. So stay tuned!

Hypothyroidism and depression

This will be a very candid and honest blog entry. I have been diagnosed with both hypothyroidism and depression. The hypothyroidism came about after the birth of my first baby boy. I did all the juicing and really didn’t lose as much as one should so I went to the doctor and asked what I could do more. He ordered some blood work and we found out about the hypothyroidism. He put me on levothroid and it was terrible. My hair started falling out, my throat swelled, my skin got scabs all over, I felt generally sick, I called after 4 days of this and asked what could I do? He said to discontinue use, so I did and within days all my negative symptoms went away. I was then put on nature thyroid and that was much better on me. No negative symptoms. Except that nature thyroid does not give me the correct T that I need to fix. It assists by fixing one, so it kind of helps. I don't remember which one it T3 or T4, sorry. But I still need the levothroid apparently, but I am not looking forward to the return of the symptoms, so I really want to try a naturopath.

I have been waiting to be done with breastfeeding to really attack the issue again. Baby Logan just turned 1 yesterday, so our breastfeeding journey should be done soon. Along with the hypothyroidism, I have depression, but really if my thyroid is corrected, depression is a symptom so maybe that will correct itself. I am on Wellbutrin for my depression and it works very well to make me feel better. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety in 2015. This was during a very bad time in my life all surrounding work. I would start having panic attacks out of no where that made my vision leave, my heart race out of control and I would start sweating like crazy. I was on xanax for when a panic attack would come on, however when I got pregnant with my second boy I had to quit the xanax. I instead really focused on breathing, meditation, and prayer. This worked for the most part and only had one bad panic attack where I was freaking out outside of my bank in my car for over 2 hours waiting to calm down while listening to a meditation podcast then worship music. But I made it through. Now the type of work I do, no longer gives me such bad anxiety where I can no longer function. Thank God!! I am still on the Wellbutrin as I do still have very negative thoughts that enter my mind throughout the day. The medication shuts up the voices in my head that tell me to kill myself all the time. Instead if I have a thought like that it is fleeting. It just comes and goes and I can continue on. It really is amazing how that happens. 

I go to both a psychiatrist and a therapist for my depression issues. Both of which I feel are very necessary. So much so, I am back in school to become a therapist myself. If you ever feel depressed, you need to seek help. I will just add to this blog the suicide prevention hotline just in case anyone needs it 1-800-273-8255. You have to get your thoughts out and learn how to properly process them. 

I journal or keep a diary almost everyday, because even if I talk to people about my issues I was taught by my therapist that doing this will keep everything a little more organized and provide a mind dump. Because that it a lot of the issues I have, I have too much going on in my mind. I want to do too much all at one time and me not accomplishing all I want, is depressing and confusing. I lay in bed sometimes if I don’t mind dump and think about all I need to do. That is not conducive to a good nights sleep. Which is needed when you are a naturally depressed person.

Where am I working?

Soo. I have recently opened up a dialogue with a podcaster named Michelle is money hungry and she told me to blog about my career path changes. So here I am to let you all know what is going on with me. Before Logan was born I was working mainly with my company The Printer Depot. Then I decided to leave and mainly be a stay at home mom. Before doing that I started to establish Urban City Resumes so I had some income coming in. Then I started to expand the company into more and more assistant work. Now I do a couple of companies payrolls. So clients I work with, I handle their house management, divorce paperwork, dog walking/sitting, etc. Then of course I do virtual assistant work with editing, writing, appointment setting, travel arrangements, etc. It has been pretty fun and I am so happy for the opportunity. I want to work online and from home as much as possible. I now am waiting for some money to come in from the house I just moved out of so that I can invest in my actual head company, Urban City Mother. I will be releasing a product soon and will be investing in the inventory, finding screen printers, packaging, warehousing, etc. I have found most all of everything except the screen printers and well the packaging I am still in the air about. But I want to set this company up 100% right where I can still work from home and then eventually get a work space office. I have really been taking so many notes from the podcasts I just recently blogged about and really love how these other women are setting their life up for success. Success meaning true entrepreneurship, where you can set up your life how you actually want it. Work the hours you want, earning the amount of money you want. 

Anyways, that’s where my head is currently as far as work goes. My manufacturer is off right now for Chinese New Year, so I am just waiting for them to come back to work to start my order.

Who I really admire

I was thinking this morning about all the podcasts I like to listen to, the people I follow on social, anyone I know, etc. Some people that really come to mind are:

Suzy Batiz- Woman entrepreneur, creator of poo pouri. She has gone through two bankruptcies and was really in a place of giving up then decided to restructure her mind set and thought processes, and then the idea for poo pouri came into the picture. Her story really is one of great determination. Most people I think would just give up on the idea of being a business owner after 1 bankruptcy. But she kept trying and trying no matter what. I feel like she really was meant to purposefully be where she is today. It is just amazing and I really admire her pure strength to bring herself up to keep trying and trying. I also just love all the talks I hear her give, she is very confident and motivational. I think we are very alike. Except of course she is living her dream currently and I am still in the very beginning processes. But the confidence, the love, the light, really resonates with me. 

Alexandrea Garza - Now she is someone who really just pulled herself up by her bootstraps and made her dream a reality. She is a YouTube star and just opened up her own virtual store called shopgoodtobe.com, yall should check her out. She is living just such a fabulous life with her hubs Michael, who also does everything with her and was able to quit his job to do YouTube full time with her. They also have a combined channel where they vlog their whole life called Alex and Michael. They are just such amazing entrepreneurs and they really work so hard to make all their dreams come true. I really just love the passion you can really feel that they have through the laptop screen. 

Jenna Kutcher - Now she is someone that I have newly been introduced to and just absolutely love. (Not in real life lol, but through podcasts) She is actually a photographer who wanted to expand her business and make more but work less essentially or of course do work she loves so it doesn’t really feel like work. Her podcast is called Goal Digger and you need to check it out. She is extremely easy to listen to and she gives real active advice. What I mean by active is it is actual stuff, actual steps that you can take and do in order to start or improve your business. I really don’t like listening to motivational speakers who just say nice things but I can’t physically do. When I hear someone speak I want them to tell me step by step what to do. Otherwise I am like great.... I feel motivated but don’t know what to do. ha. Anyways, she is wonderful, she really promotes being happy with who you are, working out, self care, helping women, becoming successful, outsourcing, and really not working too much in your business as an employee, but working on your business like a CEO, and vacations. I love that! She really preaches exactly what I want out of life, except I am not a photographer. But everything else, I want. 

Mel Robbins - Man she is a firecracker! A real kick in my rear. I actually did IRL meet her, so I will post a picture here in a bit. She has a book called, The Five Second Rule, where she talks about no longer just thinking about doing something but just doing it. Count to 5 and do it. Like waking up, alarm goes off, count to 5 and jump out of bed. Or thinking about placing a sales call that you have been thinking about doing, just count to 5 pick up the phone and make it happen. You can pretty much apply the rule to anything. Obviously this does not work for huge things that you really need to think about, but small things that you procrastinate on, you just need to do and stop thinking about it. She is amazing to listen to IRL. Super motivational and again, real steps I can actually use. I would really like to do speaking engagements like she does so much!!! I have books I am writing and I have stopped because life has just taken over, but I need to get back to it. Listening to her through some podcasts as of recent really has kind of kicked my butt and restarted my want and love for writing. That’s part of the reason you see I am blogging more. Love her! Listen and read her stuff, you won’t regret it. 

Basically this is a really short list for now, but these are people that have really been on my mind and that I have really been working hard to emulate. I of course really admire my mom, dad, my husbands mom, my grandparents on both sides, my aunts, uncles, etc. I have a ton of entrepreneurs in my family, it is crazy! I will talk more about them coming up, I just wanted to talk about these few ladies for now. Notice how they are all girls, women have really been on my mind more than anything because of the current climate here in our country. So much has been happening, that’s another blog though, but the girls that have made it are seriously such an inspiration it is crazy! Thank you ladies, I hope to make you all proud!

Getting restructured

Ok I have been off my game as of late and really just focusing as much as possible on making money asap and not really able to work on my business but in my business. Now is the time, I will be getting some money in on a refund from my rental deposit. With that and maybe some more help I will be getting my act together and I will be launching a new product. I will release more info on this as I get it. I still need to get the patent filed and pictures taken. I kind of soft plan to launch late March? Yes, get excited if you are girl who is pregnant or plans to be or has a baby that is breastfeeding. ;-) That’s all the clues you get for now. But I wanted to blog about this in an attempt to get really solid plans out there for my launch. 

1. Get the business name and tax info all legit with the state and whatnot. 

2. Get the patent filed. 

3. Get a photographer and take pics of the product. 

4. Get packaging.

5. Decide how to design the color scheme of the options. 

6. Choose a warehouse to ship from.

7. Get the product shipped to the warehouse. 

8. Launch social media campaigns all across the board. FB, Insta, Pinterest, Twitter, snapchat, here, etc. 

9. Put product up on all the different sites, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, etc. 

10. Sell, sell, sell

11. After first inventory sells mostly through then start getting into stores for larger P.O.s 

12. Work on networking here in DFW in person as much as possible for possible connections. Go to any type of conventions or fairs that I can get more contacts with. 

13. Get a personal assistant WHEN things really start to pick. 

14. Get the kids a part time nanny or maybe full time, not sure on this. But I want to find a way to spend more time with my husband.

But this is the plan so far. Will try and blog more about the process. I still have my books I need to write in too. But I will have to tackle one project at a time. I also think if I continue doing personal assistant stuff on my own I need to really get an employee that I can send out instead of me. That would be cool for me to make a network of PA’s. 

Anyways good night! Keep me on track. I will also be done *hopefully-maybe* with breastfeeding soon, so I will be able to diet and exercise again soon.

my feminist rant

First I want to start with the meaning from dictionary.com, “Feminist - advocating social, political, legal, and economic rights for women equal to those of men.”

Ok, so I have started a new company in which I want to be and employee women, who are mothers, that want to stay home with their kids, that want to work and have a degree or the equivalent in experience. The company does personal, virtual, professional assistant work. I have been doing this now for a full year, company turned 1 this month. But anyways it’s funny because most office work like accounting, payroll, a/p, a/r does not need to happen during regular office hours. But trying to convince the older generation of this has been very difficult. It is just sill how people can be set in there ways. I can save you money and time and I don’t need to be physically in the office, but trying to convince people of this has just been very difficult. Which I don’t understand why.

I have been thinking and realizing more and more of that why though. Why is it that when women have children that seems to automatically make them less than. Right? Ok let me tell you what I mean. Let’s say I have 2 kids (I do), and then I still want to work. Who will hire me where I can work a couple hours in the morning a couple at night and some in the middle of the night, oh and I might call in at any moment? No one. OR I can put my kids into daycare, which I have found with 2 kids is unaffordable. I live in Dallas and have called around to every single place and I have looked into getting a nanny. A nanny at minimum seems to want $15/hr or more, a daycare wants $300 a week or more. Lets say I get hired somewhere full time and they pay me $15-$19/hr. Well when taxes come out, I can't even afford either choice. Meanwhile I have to work but no one will hire me at the hours I am available for, so then I have to make more in the $30 and up range. But.... if you have noticed, men on the other hand do not seem to have this issue. Right? It is up to the woman to figure it out.

How is this equality? I see and hear so many women talking about getting the same pay and the same jobs and opportunities, yet, it is still not equal because we are the moms!!! It is like we want the extra money and the extra responsibility but that also means that we have to sacrifice staying home with our kids. That is not equality. We should have the opportunity to work and be with our kids. We need more jobs that are understanding of this. Have you ever seen a woman give a presentation with a baby on her hip? If you have are you happy about it or being judgmental and rolling your eyes because the baby won't stop crying? Most of the time I take my kids out in public I see it, I see the eyes rolling. But ya know what you all used to be babies and you cried. Actually there is nothing wrong with crying, even now as adults. But for some reason there is a stigma around adults crying too. I should be able to work and do my job and I have full confidence in myself that I can work while taking care of my kids and in my own timing. But convincing others has been crazy. The younger generation is a bit more forgiving, so kudos to the millennials.

I envision equality as woman and men both equally being in charge of bringing in money and watching the kids. We should not have to choose between kids or a career. It’s not like once I give birth my degree disintegrates, if it does then my husbands degree should also disintegrate, not just mine because I am the girl.

Equality should not be so hard to explain y'all. Not anymore. If it is such a hard concept then men should get paid even more than they do today once their wives have kids. So that they can stay home, but I don’t see the world doing that either. More and more jobs need to be online, need to be whatever hours people choose. The work will get done on the deadline needed. No need to be stuck in an office working M-F 8-5.

We need to come together on this and really decide this is where we want to go. There are no negatives here. The work would actually be better if done this way. Employees will be happy customers will be happy, the work will be done in a timely and professional manner, by someone with a ton of experience. You no longer need to hire someone at $9/hr with no education just for you to monitor all the time. Just outsource and pay per project. It is just cheaper and better all the way around.

blog turns 4 today!

Whoa! I literally cannot believe this blog turns 4.... I don’t even know where the time went at all.... 

I am soon exhausted!!! So today I wanted to talk more about my blog and where this whole thing is going. I went to the doctor today and we are still monitoring my skin, no cancer so far we are thinking. I talked to my PCP about my depression and anxiety and we are changing some stuff up, but all should be well. No anxiety attacks since last monday. wahoo! But I still feel anxious sometimes. I wonder how one owns a company and does not feel this way. lol. I can't wait to be a stay at home mom, which is my whole goal. My husband can take care of most all of our bills, I will just need to come up with the “fun” money. 

Where the blog is going? Well it is going to continue with me on my journey. I plan on bringing juicing back as soon as my little head gets on board. Right now I am still all depressed and anxious so I am trying out a few different things in order to change that around before adding to my stress. Juicing is stressful!!! You gotta wake up early, juice, drink the juice, make enough for your work day. Work, drinking juice, the poopig every 30 mins..... Then going home, making a dinner juice, drink, poop, workout, then sleep..... yikes even typing that out I am feeling stressed. I think that waiting is wise. I am not in a huge rush. 

I still workout almost everyday, I tend to skip one day a week, and eat vegetarian. So I am not falling completely off the wagon.

too much on my plate

So after a while of all that I have going one, I have found myself going a bit crazy. Although, I do feel better as of today. The past few weeks have been very hard on me. I haven’t been dieting or juicing or anything. Till today I finally had a smoothie and I feel like it helped a ton, only thing is that it was short acting and now going into lunch, I am starving. I think I will eat a salad or something.  I plan on going home during lunch today to make myself a stew for tonight with the crockpot. I will try and video it, so I can add more content to my youtube. That ought to be nice. So all that I have going one is.... 4 books, a youtube channel, a podcast, of course www.theprinterdepo.com, an invention (news to come soon), being a mom, and a wife. There is more, but I can't think of it at this time. So while I have been really golden on keeping up with everything, I found myself breaking. literally. My depression and anxiety are the worse. It all kind of came up out of no where and continued to wreck me. But, like I said, I am very Thankful to God that today is the day I feel much better. Anxiety is something still sort of new, going on in my life. It came to me during the struggles I incurred last year. I had some family issues arise and work issues, all kind of one in the same. But this time around I am faced with it for reasons I haven't been able to fully understand. I know I am very busy, I usually am, but I guess I can’t do it anymore... I thought I could keep going 1 million miles per hour but apparently I should slow it down. So I am going to focus only in one book and the others will have to hold. Also, Im slowing down the releases of my youtube vids and podcasts, just because I need some more relaxing time. I also need to get myself more plugged into church so I have God backing me at all times, he is now, but I need to feel it more than I do now. Life sometimes decides to make you slow down even if you don't want to.... It is weird how the human body works and signals to your brain, that hey you are now going into depression mode and bam! anxiety attacks! hahaha But I have been going to therapy more and more every week and to my PCP every week to get this all under control. I have not been drinking caffeine, which has been extremely hard. But I have been taking super b complex and I think it is really why yesterday and today have felt better. Anyways I wanted to update everyone where I was at and what was going on. I am hopeful to get to feeling better, and soon. Thanks!

My writting

So I opened up my book and started reading. I don't know if I should continue it. It's titled being perpetually single. However since then, I'm married, I proved my young self wrong! Should I keep writing it? My thought is I could finish this book, since it's almost done, that way I could make a second in a series about how I was wrong and now married and have a child. Would this be good? I also want to write about being a woman, married, mom, entrepreneur. Why? Because how many books are out there about this topic? Like 2 and they are rich... So they just talk about hiring assistants and nannys. Hahaha I want real, solid, advice for a normal person. I also want to write a kids book, and a very hyper-sexed weird fantasy book, yes I know, not similar. But I want to write so much. I have so much in my head. I also want to talk about more, real, hard hitting topics. But!!! The other day I googled, "how to write a book and have friends and family" because, really how do you do that? I think if I write fully what I want, my parents will freaking hate me. My dad already does, so no real big deal there. But I like the relationship my mom and I have right now. I don't want to write something that my mom won't be proud of me and she will take offense to something I have written. I also think about my friends. I have lost so many in the friends in the bad 4 year relationship I was in, I lost more during college, then another when I became owner of my company. I only have a hand full left. I love them. I don't want them getting pissed at something I wrote. However I think the friends I have left are pretty solid and I don't think I would really write anything they'd leave me over. I just want to make people proud. But I also want to be interesting, truthful, and creative. I really want to do so much with my writing. The Printer Depo

Ok, So I have decided on a couple ways to help make my dream a reality and have all my thoughts actually help each other. We are going to find a way to get back on Amazon. No matter what! Working on that hardcore now! Next, videos, I plan on starting these tomorrow. I will just use my iphone for now until I can get a camera that will work. I want to do a mixture or vlogs and actual good videos so I am shopping around now for good cameras. I will keep up with the videos once a week. I think that is the most realistic challenge for me. Also, I plan on taking my Fridays off, or most of them to really work on the videos and Amazon. I will have to be away from the office to make these things work. I also want to focus more on my blogs as well. I have missed a few on workingmother.com so I have to get back to it asap. Kind of a divide and conquer type thing. Hopefully *fingers crossed* I can do this. The 10,000 small businesses of Goldman Sachs really showed me that I can have my Friday pretty consistently off. So I think it will work! 

It is difficult owning a small business, but I am very fortunate that I have my brother as a business partner. He can really allow for me to focus on bringing business to The Printer Depo more and more. Before on Amazon alone we did about $20,000 in business per month, so that would be wonderful if we could do that again. 

Adding videos as a promotional tool I think will also really help get more and more people interested in The Printer Depo and really get the word out that we exist!

My journey

I am so sorry I haven’t posted in a while. I have been super de-duper busy and just all over the place. I am trying to find a way to do all the things I wants to do. There is really so little time in the day. I have stopped juicing :-( it was just becoming too much to handle. The prep work and the actual act of juicing is difficult. So far this is how a typical day goes for me. Wake up, get ready, take Liam to daycare, run to work. Work all day, get off at 5, run to daycare to pick up my son, go home, it is now anywhere from 6-6:30pm. Get dinner done, eat dinner, then bath time for me and Liam. Now it is about 9pm. Time for bed. Go to sleep... lol, so that is my day Monday- Friday.... Sooo... Where in there is there time to do anything? What ends up happening if I need to do anything that diverts from this plan is sacrificing my sleep, then I am super tired to go to work in the morning... Like right now I am trying to build a bunch of Ikea furniture. So far I have finished a headboard, 2 night stands, a tent, a small table, and 2 chairs. I still have 2 dressers and and closet type thing to construct. It is a lot of work.  ugh... what I want to do with my time is find out a way to make youtube videos. The only thing I have that can make the videos is an ipad and it makes these really weird moving lines on the sides. So I need to invest in a good camera, but I want to make sure I actually keep up with the videos.... But where is the time to do so? Also I have written a book and it is I think either half way done or about 2 thirds of the way done... But I need to come up with time to write in it... ugh... working out time is also needed. Anyways. I am trying to figure it all out. i want to spend more time with my family too. The only day I have my husband with me is Saturday, I wish he had Sundays off too... I think that would help with my needed time to do things, But oh well... I need to just do it. 

Is there anyone else who is spread thin like this with high motivation?

Impressed Doctor today

I went to my yearly lady doctor exam today and my doctor was extremely impressed with my weight loss. 70 pounds down since she last saw me. That's crazy to think about... I just keep drilling into my head that I've got 40 more pounds to go to be at pre-pregnancy weight. I had basically forgotten the successes I have made. 70 pounds is a lot of weight to have lost. Meanwhile daily I feel like that was nothing. It was a thing of the past and I still have a long way to go... I'm so down on myself. I am happy that I had this appointment to really knock some sense into me. It motivates me so much! I'm on the right path. I have met day 18, so I still have 102 days left on my juice journey. Hopefully the last 40 pounds will be gone soon. Thank you all for the love and support!

20 down, 40 at least more to go.

So far I have lost 20 pounds since my start of this juice journey. It's been 16 days on juice, 104 more to go. I am hoping that I will lose the 40 by the end of this. Today I went to boom juice, which is my favorite juice place. But the place at farmers market is super nice but they stopped carrying fruits and veggies. Which I find really weird... A farmers market with no fruit or veggies... Anyways I'm sure Dallas will figure it out... Yeah right! But I'm super happy about the results so far. I need to start working out and drinking my smoothies.

Day 9, down 13 pounds. Another 40 lbs to go. And 111 days left on this cleanse. So far it's going well. I seem to also feel better and lose more weight when I allow myself cheat days. It's pretty cool, anyways keep following to see more!

Day 6 troubles

So today is day 6 and everything has been going pretty well and pretty smooth so far. Until.... I had a guy here at The Printer Depo bring in chinese food, but it doesn’t smell like that, it smells like Grandy’s chicken fried chicken, with mashed potatoes, and green beans. OMG! So now I am drinking my juice dreaming about Grandy’s. I have not had meat in such a long time and if I have it was because I was out of town and HAD to try that specific areas food. I didn’t go vegetarian for the love of animals, I did it for health reason. Anyways... don’t you think that juicing is pretty fun? Just as long as no one eats around you!

UGH!!
